I live in a rust-belt town. Most of my neighbors are the grandchildren of eastern European immigrants. Many are, like me, the children of World War 2 veterans. The majority I'd classify as JFK democrats, old-school conservative democrats. From my front yard I can see one other American flag out today besides mine. One other flag, out of perhaps 25 houses.

As the debate over the Confederate Battle Flag continues to occupy the interest of the media we are constantly reminded of precisely who is “right” and who is on the wrong side of history. Listening to the talking heads on cable news you’d be tempted to think that, much like climate change, the social science is settled. Everyone is onboard for tearing the hated flag down and if you don’t agree you are part of a tiny group of racist dead enders, clutching your guns and your bibles in some remote cave in the Ozarks. Presidential candidates and Republican Party...

A majority of Americans view the Confederate flag more as a symbol of Southern pride than racism, according to a new poll. Fifty-seven percent of Americans said they see the flag as evoking Southern pride in the CNN/ORC poll released Thursday, compared to 33 percent who believe it is racist. Those numbers show little movement since a similar poll from 2000.

The Confederate flag is in the news -- being called a symbol of hate by the Left while at the same time the White House is emblazoned with Rainbow flag colors in their celebration that people can love and marry anyone. I cannot wait for 2017 -- to be rid of this destructive, evil administration. I grew up on Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin (my mother was raised outside of Milwaukee). John Schneider is blasting TV Land for its decision to erase from its schedule due its depiction of the Confederate flag reruns of The Dukes of Hazzard, the wholesome show that made the actor a teen idol in the 1980s. The Dukes of Hazzard was and is no more a show seated in racism than Breaking Bad was a show seated in reality, Schneider told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday. The U.S. National Park Service ordered all flags to be taken down at Ft. Sumter in Charleston except for the American flag. The banners that were removed are neither the traditional Confederate flag that's most typically displayed by individuals, nor is it the battle flag version that currently flies in front of the South Carolina State House. Instead, the flags were the less frequently seen national flags of the Confederacy. The park...

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) A top Mississippi lawmaker said Monday that the Confederate battle emblem is offensive and needs to be removed from the state flag. House Speaker Philip Gunn became the first top-tier Republican to call for a change in the flag, which has had the Confederate symbol in the upper left corner since Reconstruction. "We must always remember our past, but that does not mean we must let it define us," Gunn, a leader in his local Baptist church, said in a statement. "As a Christian, I believe our state's flag has become a point of offense that...

The American flag was lowered to half-staff at the South Carolina state capitol last week after the deadly church shooting in Charleston, yet the Confederate "battle flag" still flies on the state capitol grounds, outraging South Carolinians and other Americans. Local politicians and leaders held a joint news conference this morning to call for the Confederate flag, currently flying, by law, at full-staff, to be to be removed entirely from the site, and Gov. Nikki Haley is expected to make a statement on the issue this afternoon. But though the controversy is focused this week on South Carolina, it is...

If Obama sincerely wanted to mothball the Confederate flag by hiding it in the obscurity of a museum, why did he wait seven years to turn on it? Its not the trumped up battle over the 150-year-old Confederate flag thats what the slaughter of nine victims at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church is really all about. Its that the flag protesters seek to make a flag flap transcend the deaths of nine people in churchbypassing those tragic deaths as though they never happened. For shame the tragedy was made political before even Susie Jackson, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, DePayne Doctor, Ethel...

South Carolina state Rep. Norman Doug Brannon (R) said Friday night he plans on introducing a bill to remove the Confederate flag near his states capitol building. The legislation was inspired by Wednesday evenings mass shooting that claimed nine lives at historic black church in Charleston, S.C., he said. Im not a politician tonight, Brannon told host Chris Hayes on MSNBCs All In on Friday evening. But I do have access, and I will introduce that bill in December, he said of the proposed change in state law. I will pre-file that bill in December when we go back into...

I'm a big fan of the First Amendment. I don't like the idea of outlawing speech. But if the media says that some form of speech is a problem, then I think we should immediately ban it. I'm thinking in particular of one hate-filled flag that incites violence among many people, especially in the South. If a flag is a cause of such violence, shouldn't we ban it? That's why I'm calling for the Mexican flag to be banned. In Mexico, perhaps, it's harmless, but in the United States, all it does is foment hatred and violence. Look at the...

As the fight to remove the Confederate flag from the state House grounds in South Carolina heats up, politicians are weighing in on the debate.rWhat do you think? Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham defended displaying the flag, while former presidential candidate Mitt Romney called for its removal. Carly Fiorina called it a symbol of racial hatred, but stopped short of saying it should be removed. Sen. Ted Cruz said South Carolinians should decide what their state does. President Barack Obamas spokesman said the flag belongs in a museum.rWhat do you think? But while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has weighed...
