Iowa House Democrats left the Capitol in protest Wednesday, saying they were betrayed by the Republican majority that decided this morning to debate controversial gun rights legislation. “We’ve been doubled-crossed,” said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, D-Des Moines, just before he lead his 40-member caucus out of the Statehouse. Democrats had been led to believe a constitutional amendment spelling out Iowans’ right to bear arms and the so-called “Castle Doctrine” giving Iowans the right to defend themselves would not be debated Feb. 29, McCarthy said. However, he was told after both parties went into their routine closed-door meetings to discuss...

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana's march toward becoming the nation's 23rd right-to-work state is once again in limbo. House Democrats here refused to return to the Indiana House floor Tuesday evening, abandoning a deal that was supposed to lead to a vote on right-to-work legislation by the end of this week. Indiana Senate Bill 269 and House Bill 1001 would make it a Class A misdemeanor to require an individual to join or remain in a union or to pay any dues, fees or other charges to that same labor organization. After the Democrats refused to come back from a recess in...

It seems that railing against big banks and the reviled 1 per cent is actually a big business in itself for the Occupy Wall Street protesters. Over the past three months since the Occupy Wall Street protests began, the movement raised a whopping $706,855.91 through online and personal donations. After massive amounts of laundry, food, and subway passes, the group now has $300,000 left to spend as they see fit.

Members of the “Occupy LA” movement are planning to make their presence felt at the 123rd Tournament of Roses Parade. The demonstrators plan to walk banners ahead of a 250-foot by 50-foot blowup of the U.S. Constitution on Monday, as well as, a new version of a giant octopus puppet that was assembled during their two-month stay at City Hall. “The new octopus is much more glorious and fully reflect Wall Street and all its ugliness,” said Pete Thottam, organizer of the Occupy Rose Parade. Two marching bands will follow along with several people in costume but “Occupy” is not...

Sanitation officials said Wednesday that they expect to haul away 30 tons of debris from the Occupy L.A. encampment –- everything from clothing to heaps of garbage to oddball curiosities left behind by the protesters who lived at the City Hall tent city for two months. Andrea Alarcon, president of the city Public Works board, said workers already have removed 25 tons of belongings from the City Hall park, all of it heading straight to a landfill. Sanitation crews also have vacuumed up about 3,000 gallons of water that had washed into a catch basin in recent days and are...

A member of Occupy the Hood Boston, an activist group focused on social inequities in urban communities, said the group formally separated from Occupy Boston. Community activist Jamal Crawford said elements such as “racism and white privilege” have been “hindrances to forward progress,” in an e-mail he sent to occupiers, demanding certain things change. “I can’t say all of OB is racist or OB itself is racist [but] we witnessed and experienced white privilege and racism,” he said.

On the eve of the Occupy Wall Street protests, it’s useful to take a look at its legacy. There are plenty of ways to measure the depravity that we’ve seen during the past several months, but it’s simplest to focus on the following themes: arrests, assaults, death and disease – plus the financial burden that the rest of the country has to shoulder in order to clean it all up:Number of arrests: 3,621 (via Occupy Arrests )Number of deaths: 4 – one murder, one suicide, one suspected drug overdose and one mystery.Number of sexual assaults: At least seven that have...

Occupy wall street is a great demonstration for us all. It is all the failures of Socialism captured in high speed! like a time-lapse photo of 40 years squeezed down to 2 months. First the exhilaration and chanting. All the liberal propogandists showing smiling happy 'protesters' organizeing to help 'The Workers'. The democrats and media propogandists express their loving support for 'The Workers'. Unlike their disdain for those other people with actual jobs- the TEA party. Then we see the lazy people sitting around waiting to be fed, crapping all over themselves (no one ‘assigned’ to wash them, I guess)...

Occupy Boston protesters vow they won’t be forced out of their tent city like New York’s Wall Street campers were yesterday — even as Mayor Thomas M. Menino promised they can stay — but legal advocates launched a pre-emptive strike anyway to bar the city from evicting them. “Mayor Menino you should know, hell no, we won’t go!” a protester tweeted at @Occupy_ Boston, marking progress online as a chanting group marched through downtown last night.

MINNEAPOLIS - The Occupy Minnesota protest has been going on for 40 days, and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office says the protests have been calm over all -- but it hasn't all been squeaky clean. In fact, there have been multiple reports of sex on the Hennepin County Government Center plaza. "People have sex. When you have people, there are needs to be fulfilled -- not that I advocate that, but yeah. That did happen," said John Steitz. Steitz wasn't the protestor involved in the in-the-open intercourse, but he knows who was. Still, he says he and other occupiers are...

The guild says the injunction prevents the city from enforcing park rules on Occupy Wall Street protesters. Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the city knew about the court order but has not seen it. He says the city plans to go court immediately.

Hours After Manhattan Residents March On City Hall, Bloomberg Responds [snip] "...The OWS movement in New York City had become a serious detriment to residents and business owners living and working in the area near Zuccotti. Bloomberg was constantly under siege from residents to do something about the noise and reports of unsanitary conditions, in addition to the negative impact the demonstrations were having on local businesses. Residents got so enraged they decided to do something about it on Monday by marching on City Hall. WCBS 880′s Marla Diamond On The Story (see link) “No, I’m not going to take...

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police believe that some protesters inside the Occupy Portland encampments are building shields and makeshift weapons -- including nails hammered into wood -- in preparation for when authorities attempt to clear the parks this weekend, police said Friday. Occupy Portland organizers have repeatedly said the movement is nonviolent and have appealed to demonstrators to resist peacefully when the camps close at midnight on Saturday. They planned public marches and a potluck dinner before the deadline and hoped the public would take part. But police said as many as 150 anarchists may come to Portland to take...
