Several of my recent threads / comments have related to a DUI arrest I recently had. I will not defend that. One of the more interesting subjects which came up when I was in jail was whether you can be arrested for "drunk in public" when you are on your own property. My position is that this should not be possible. I like to sit out on my front porch, have a drink or three, and study my shubbery. I am not driving or doing anything else which I consider to be wrong. The overwhelming consensus among my cell-mates is...

I have recently got myself in a fair amount of trouble for a DUI. There is no question that I am guilty of the basic offense. I am willing to pay the fines and do the time. That all seems the way it should be. What I would like to do, however, is to go into court (the next time), and express my sentiments to the judge. These would not be real polite. BOSTON - The neighbor who found Joan Bennett Kennedy lying on a sidewalk this week said she had no idea the woman she helped was a member of one of America's best-known families. Kennedy, 68, the former wife of U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, was recovering Thursday at Massachusetts General Hospital after suffering a concussion and broken shoulder. It remained unclear exactly what happened to Kennedy, who has battled alcoholism for years. There was an ambulance call record but no police report on the incident and family members have declined to give any details. Constance Bacon, 35, who lives in...

SANTA FE, N.M. - A judge who wrecked a state-owned van last week pleaded guilty to drunken driving and said he would enter a treatment program. He is the second New Mexico judge to enter a DWI plea in less than a year. State District Judge Thomas Fitch admitted to aggravated DWI and other charges in court Tuesday. He was sentenced to the maximum 90 days, with 88 days suspended, and will serve the two days in jail after his treatment. Fitch, 62, was driving to a legislative committee meeting Friday when the van overturned. Police said they found a...
