COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The 22-year-old accused of carrying out the deadly mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs in November ran a neo-Nazi website and used gay and racial slurs while gaming online, a police detective testified Wednesday. Anderson Lee Aldrich also posted an image of a rifle scope trained on a gay pride parade and used a bigoted slur when referring to someone who was gay, Detective Rebecca Joines said. Her testimony came at the start of a hearing that will determine if there’s enough evidence to warrant that Aldrich face hate crime charges, in...

A hate group that has spread antiseptic flyers across the United States in recent years targeted Jewish neighbourhoods in the Atlanta area on Sunday morning. According to the StopAntisemitism advocacy organization, the Goyim Defense League (GDL) was behind the flyers, which were found in the Atlanta districts of Dunwoody and Sandy Springs. Similarly to past flyer drops, the hate literature was placed in plastic baggies and weighed down with small objects to prevent it from blowing away. “White Supremacist group 'Goyim Defense League' targets Georgia's Jewish suburbs of Dunwoody & Sandy Springs with their latest antisemitic flyer campaign,” StopAntisemitism tweeted....

A white supremacist group hung a banner in support of Kanye West on a Los Angeles overpass on Saturday. Goyim Defense League – a hate group responsible for multiple instances of antisemitic flyers distributed across the United States – also held a demonstration with Nazi salutes at the 405 Freeway overpass in support of the rapper, who has been widely denounced for recent antisemitic statements. Members of the extremist group made Nazi salutes as they unfurled the banner that said, “Kanye is right about the Jews,” the Los Angeles Times reported. “It’s not just words,” tweeted Sam Yebri, a lawyer...

Researchers in the US have come up with a cheap, environmentally friendly way to kill termites and other pests. The method involves the applying a sugar derivative, which inhibits an anti-microbial protein normally secreted by the insects, thereby leaving them open to disease.Insects have efficient immune systems, although much of their workings are still unknown. Nevertheless, one aspect that is well-understood is the existence of proteins called pattern-recognition receptors, which can spot microbes that should not be present. Such receptors come under a class of 'gram-negative bacteria binding proteins', or GNBPs.Ram Sasisekharan of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, together with colleagues...
