Hans Holzer, whose investigations into the paranormal took him to haunted houses all over the world, most notably the Long Island house that inspired “The Amityville Horror,” died on Sunday at his home in Manhattan. He was 89. The death was confirmed by his daughter Alexandra Holzer. Mr. Holzer — who wrote more than 140 books on ghosts, the afterlife, witchcraft, extraterrestrial beings and other phenomena associated with the realm he called “the other side” — carried out his most famous investigation with the medium Ethel Johnson-Meyers in 1977. Together they roamed the house in Amityville, in which a young...

AN eerie image of a figure at a Scottish castle has got ghost experts spooked. The scary shot was unearthed during the biggest ever investigation into photographic evidence of ghosts. The picture, taken in May last year, shows a spectral figure in fifteenth century dress peering out of a barred window at Tantallon Castle in Fife. No mannequins or costumed guides are used at the castle and photo experts have confirmed that no digital trickery was used. Even ghost sceptic Professor Richard Wiseman admitted to being puzzled. “It is certainly very curious,” he said. “We ran it by three photographic...

The British economist John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946) turns out to have been something of a prophet. He once wrote that “practical men,” as opposed to theoreticians, “are usually the slaves of some defunct economist.” Ironically, the defunct economist who is influencing Barack Obama, his advisers, and his supporters in Washington is Keynes himself. Like a ghostly presence, Keynes’ ideas are hovering over us. The very notion of a government “stimulus” for the economy originated in Keynes’ 1936 book The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money. In it, Keynes spelled out his theory that government could offset the economic ups...

Host to ghosts: Texas capital home to LBJ, others By APRIL CASTRO, Associated Press Writer – Sun Oct 26, 10:33 am ET AUSTIN – Politics can be plenty spooky, especially this time of year. But in Texas, some politicians have a way of sticking around way past Election Day. Some say Sam Houston, the Texas hero who famously gave up his job as governor rather than join the Confederacy, still roams his old home, pacing nervously. Others have seen the ghost of Lyndon Johnson watching election night returns in the mezzanine of the storied Driskill Hotel, or Susanna Wilkerson Dickinson,...

FAIRFIELD — City and school district leaders have "condemned" the actions of a Fairfield resident who last week displayed a ghost with Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama's name on it — hanging from a tree by a noose. Mike Lunsford said he hung the ghost in his front yard as a Halloween decoration and later wrote "Hussain" in on it. Obama's middle name is Hussein. Lunsford also attached part of a campaign yard sign with Obama's last name to his decoration. Fairfield police received calls from neighbors and passersby, but decided Lunsford had not committed any crime. Fairfield Police...

Is an area high school haunted? Asheville is abuzz after video was captured by a motion-activated camera at Asheville High school at 2:51 a.m. Friday, August 1. In the video, a dark image –some say looks like the silhouette of a child- appears by an elevator. The image advances forward and is again captured in the hallway. Chapter One: The Buried Bodies 0500 February 10, 1986 Bethesda, Maryland On my morning run through February’s chilly darkness, my chocolate Lab, Tyler Beauregard, sets the pace. This is our routine together, though we always vary our route now. At agent training, which I just completed, they drilled into us the notion that in our new lives, routines will get us killed. When you join the Dark World, you must become unpredictable. Erratic. We must strip away all the conventions of our old lives and fade into the background. We’ve been trained. We’ve practiced. Today, I begin my life as...
