Germany will not declare Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement a terrorist organization, a top official said Friday. Deputy Minister in the Foreign Ministry Niels Annen told news magazine Der Spiegel that the Iran-backed Shiite Islamist movement is a relevant factor in Lebanese society and part of the complex political landscape in the country. The comments come after Britain last month banned Hezbollah’s political wing, accusing the movement of destabilizing the Middle East. “The British move is a national decision that has no direct impact on the position of the German government or the EU,’ said Annen. The European Union had already added...

Why is this such a huge issue? We should keep track of the turncoats.

Soon we may see Obama’s Mandatory Volunteerism Plan come to light. Sound oxymoronic doesn’t it? Mandatory Volunteer? Somehow last week both houses of congress pushed forward an expansion of the Americorps national service plan. If you recall last year, the Obamassiah proposed a civilian national security force that’s “just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the U.S. military. The legislation included this language: “a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people.” In other words, start the goose stepping when they’re young, and expand the boots on the street. That’s right, Obama wants...

Goose-stepping in unison may have been used by the Nazis to help brainwash people into following their cause, a new study suggests. Researchers have found that if groups perform tasks in unison, such as marching, dancing and chanting, they show more loyalty towards each other and are less likely to go against the norm. The findings, published in New Scientist, could explain why the likes of Hitler and Mussolini both seemingly had the ability to bend millions of people to their will. Dr Scott Wiltermuth, of Stanford University in California and colleagues, have found that activities performed in unison, such...

ISTANBUL, Turkey - Turkish bookshops have a best seller, but some of them are hesitant about giving it too much display. It's "Mein Kampf." The popularity of Adolf Hitler's book, filled with anti-Jewish diatribes and dreams of world domination, is puzzling some Turks. Does it reflect rising anti-Semitic or anti-Western sentiment in Muslim Turkey? Or anger over Israel's treatment of the Palestinians and the war in Iraq (news - web sites)? Is it a backlash against the country's moves to join the European Union (news - web sites)? Or does it simply offer a cheap thrill? At least two new...

New London, CT (February 21, 2004) - A rally by College Republicans from Connecticut College in New London, CT was broken up Friday night by Campus Safety officers, who told them they had no permit. The students were rallying peacefully in front of the Olin Science Center, near the main entrance to the school. The students were showing their support for President Bush, and encouraging others to be excited about and supportive of the President. "No one has ever needed a permit before," said Bob French, a junior from New Hampshire and the Executive Director of the state-level College...

Since my last vanity announcement on keywords went so swimmingly (it ended up with something like 5000 keywords added to it) I thought a great idea would be to throw some propane on some other fires with a vanity. Breaking news is being abused again, big time. This goes in cycles, with sometimes people being responsible, but other times people not being very responsible. We are in one of the not-very time periods. Please, do not post something in Breaking News because you think it is something you want people to see. Place something in Breaking News only if it...

Senator Clinton has repeatedly vowed to finish out her first term, which ends in 2006. But she would be foolish to pass up the 2004 opportunity, especially if President Bush's economic plans start to crash and burn and his war whoops lead to body bags. Clinton would leap to the front of the pack on name recognition alone. She's a terrific fundraiser and New York voters would forgive her if she made a credible but unsuccessful run. She would return to the Senate as a more powerful member and be a battle-tested contender for 2008. COLLEGE PARK, MD. -...
