A rookie New York City police officer shot and killed an unarmed 28-year-old man in a darkened stairwell in Brooklyn late Thursday night, according to the police. Police Commissioner William J. Nevada will oppose an effort by opponents of same-sex marriages to get the full 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to hear arguments to ban gay marriage in the Silver State, Gov.
