  • Background Checks Bill Would Turn Many Well-intentioned Americans Into Criminals

Let’s say a stalker threatens a female friend of yours. She asks you if she can borrow your handgun. She is trained and has no criminal record. Should you loan her your gun? Under a bill being heard today before the House Judiciary Committee, loaning her your gun soon could land you in prison. An exception is made only for cases of “imminent” danger — where her stalker is right in front of her at that very moment. Even those annual Boy Scout shooting trips will face legal dangers. Adults who lend troops their guns for a day might soon...

London continues its downward spiral under London Mayor Saddiq Khan’s leadership. Or lack thereof. According to figures from the London Metropolitan Police, 49 percent of knife crime is committed by teenagers. Even more revealing were numbers that indicated that three quarters of knife crime perpetrators were minorities. This is part of a larger trend of failed government policies that are beginning to produce toxic social outcomes throughout the UK. For a start, it doesn’t help that the UK has an expansive welfare state that is not very conducive to immigrant assimilation. One needn’t look further at the case of Sweden...

President Bolsonaro of Brazil is following President Trump's lead. On January 15, 2019, Jair Bolsonaro kept a prominent campaign promise. He signed a decree modifying the extreme firearms restrictions passed in December of 2003. From voanews.com: Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro has signed a decree making it easier for many Brazilians to own a gun – a measure he says will help people defend themselves. The decree establishes wide categories of people who qualify for gun ownership. Those include people living in rural areas, in urban areas with high levels of homicide, business owners, gun collectors and hunters. In effect,...

The Instructor, a retired Navy SEAL, spoke with a quite, steady and commanding voice: “Load one nine round magazine, lower the hammer, place your weapon on safe, re-holster, and raise your right hand when you have completed these actions.” Clear and concise. Each of his ten students followed these commands. Soon ten right hands went up. “Now lower your hands, and listen to the following directions. I will give these directions twice, and only twice.” He then enunciated how his students were to draw their weapons, engage targets, how many rounds to place on each target, when to perform a...

“I think that somebody should have required — and this is going to sound very harsh. I think somebody should have required all those members of Congress to go in a room, in a locked room, no press, nobody else, and look at the autopsy photographs of those babies. And then you vote your conscience. This has become a political issue.”

PITTSBURGH - Some gun rights advocates are now trying to push Pittsburgh's mayor out of office and possibly have him criminally charged over his gun control plans. Republican ward Chair Brooke Nadonley, of Mt. Washington, and Val Finnell, of Firearms Owners Against Crime, made the rounds Monday at the Allegheny County Courthouse, trying to file a petition to impeach Bill Peduto. "One of the grounds of his malfeasance, which would be the attempt to manipulate and change Pennsylvania gun laws," Nadonley said. Impeachment is a long shot, and likely won't get any traction, but it appears likely that some of...

To Republicans, not allowing religious houses to arm themselves is like leaving them as lambs to a potential slaughter. But for Democrats, lifting the ban would mean putting worshippers at risk of themselves. But Democrats saw it in a different light... "We are saying with this bill, we no longer trust in God," Virginia Democratic Sen. Lionell Spruill said. "We ... foolishly took prayer out of schools ... and now we want to take God out of church. If there's anywhere you can trust God, it should be the church. Let's depend on God on this one. Let's not take...

Edward Burke Jr. was arrested at his home in Winnetka after a family member told police he pushed her and authorities reported finding him “highly intoxicated” and “belligerent.” But by the end of the next business day, the domestic battery charge had been dropped. The swift reversal occurred after the accused man — the son of Edward Burke, Chicago’s longest-serving alderman who is now charged with attempted extortion — managed to get his case before a Cook County judge, apparently without the assistance of an attorney and despite the fact he wasn’t due in court for another week. The arrest...

A pair of Democratic lawmakers have sponsored a piece of legislation making it illegal to own several different firearms. And several southern Illinois lawmakers plan to fight the bill. "Our second amendment rights are sacred to we as Americans, and here in southern Illinois we're not going to tolerate it," State Rep. Terri Bryant, (R) Murphysboro, said. Terri Bryant says Senate Bill 107 is just the latest attempt to ban legal guns.

In 2010, the Supreme Court ruled that cities and states may not abridge “the right to possess a handgun in the home for the purpose of self-defense.” It has not heard a Second Amendment case since, leaving most lower courts to assume that the right to bear arms applies “in the home,” as the justices ruled. But on Tuesday, the court agreed to review a New York City law that limits gun owners’ ability to transport their guns outside the home. And it appears quite likely that the new conservative majority will, for the very first time, extend the Second...

The Baltimore City school board voted unanimously to oppose a measure that would have allowed school police officers to carry weapons during the day. The school board’s vote effectively kills HB31, which would have overturned a previous prohibition on school police officers carrying guns in schools. Del. Cheryl D. Glenn, a Democrat who sponsored the bill, said she would be withdrawing the proposed legislation from the General Assembly. “I can’t move a bill that doesn’t have the support of the school board and the mayor,” she said. “The votes wouldn’t be there.” The 10-0 opposition vote took place at a...

Newly elected Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, Republican Dennis Bonnen, campaigned as a pro-Second Amendment candidate. However, actions speak far louder than words and we now see he lied. For the first time in decades, a Speaker has appointed anti-gun Democrats to chair the two most important House Committees for Texas gun owners. Speaker Bonnen appointed D-rated, anti-gun Democrat Poncho Nevarez as Chair of the Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee and F-rated, anti-gun Democrat Nicole Collier to Chair the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee. These are the two committees that hear all gun and self-defense related bills. Committee chairmen...

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it will examine New York City’s ban on carrying a licensed and unloaded handgun outside the city limits, the first Second Amendment challenge it has accepted in nearly a decade. The decision to hear the case in the term that begins in October may signal that the reinforced conservative majority on the court is ready to consider more laws that restrict gun rights. New York’s law is not replicated elsewhere: It permits transporting handguns only to firing ranges within the city. Those who challenged the law have a licenses to keep a handgun at...

Any Walther CCP M2 owners out there willing to provide a review? Wife is considering it as her CCW gun. She has a elbow injury that reduces her hand strength. This was the only 9mm she could rack comfortably. She does not like the feel of Glocks. She did like Sig but can only manage the .380 pocket pistols. Revolvers will only be considered if there is no pistol that meets her needs. Her work area is starting to get rough but until the doctor's office moves (she is the office manager), she really needs to carry.

A few dozen people, some armed with rifles, handguns and extra ammunition, gathered outside the state Capitol Saturday to protest potential gun control measures they fear could come from either newly inaugurated Gov. Tony Evers and his administration or the federal government. Attendees of the We the People rally spoke primarily of three amendments to the U.S. Constitution they believe are under threat: the Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to bear arms; the Fourth Amendment, which protects citizens against searches and seizures without due process of law; and the 14th Amendment, which awards all protections of the constitution to...

On Thursday, the Travis County District Court ruled that the City of Austin, Texas, violated the law by barring handguns in City Hall and assessed a nine thousand dollar penalty against the city for the violation. The concealed carry of handguns has been legal in Texas for decades and open carry for Texas’ concealed handgun license holders became legal on January 1, 2016. In the January 17, 2019, ruling, Judge Lora J. Livingston explained that the Plaintiff was able to show that open carry was refused on April 4, 2016, April 6, 2016, April 12, 2016, July 1, 2016, July 29,...

It’s not just her bills that are sparking attention. State Sen. Amanda Chase, R-Chesterfield, generated buzz on Tuesday by presenting them while wearing her .38-caliber revolver in a custom-made holster. The first-term senator — a fan of government transparency and opponent of the Equal Rights Amendment — said she wore the gun following an incident Monday in which Capitol Police were called after immigration-rights supporters confronted Sen. Dick Black, R-Loudoun. Chase said she always carries her gun in concealed fashion but decided Tuesday was a good day to carry openly when she presented her bills in the Senate Privileges and...
