DEVELOPING: Jon Hammar, the U.S. Marine imprisoned in Mexico on a gun charge, will be released today, his mother told Fox News Radio. Olivia Hammar said the judge hearing Hammar's case issued a ruling in his favor and that her son is to be released at a time on Friday yet to be announced. No more details were available. Hammar, 27, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, has been stuck in a notorious, drug cartel-controlled prison just 15 miles south of the U.S. border since Aug. 13, after he crossed into Mexico and declared an antique shotgun to Mexican customs...

MEXICO CITY — As a U.S. Marine, Jon Hammar endured nightmarish tension patrolling the war-ravaged streets of Iraq’s Fallujah. When he came home, the brutality of war still pinging around his brain, mental peace proved elusive. Surfing provided the only respite. “The only time Hammar is not losing his mind is when he’s on the water,” said a fellow Marine veteran, Ian McDonough. snip--- But Mexican prosecutors who looked at the disassembled relic in the 1972 Winnebago motor home dismissed the U.S. registration papers Hammar had filled out. They charged him with a serious crime: possession of a weapon restricted...

I though everyone would be interested in this. It is amazing to me the utter unresponsiveness of the government. We have only gotten one reply to our inquires and that is from his representative in Miami. Nothing from State, nothing from the White House. Frustrating beyond belief.

Jewish council cuts ties with Church of Sweden The Jewish Central Council in Sweden has decided to break off all contacts with the (Lutheran) Church of Sweden due to a consumer boycott of goods from territories under Israeli occupation, advocated by Archbishop K.G. Hammar. The campaign by Hammar, the Lutheran church's senior bishop, is called "Hopp" (hope) and has the backing of 12 organizations that want the European Union to re-negotiate its trade agreement with Israel. In a letter to the archbishop, the Jewish Central Council stated their indignation at the "one-sided standpoint" expressed by the "Hopp" campaign. The letter...
