  • New Statin Guidelines: Everyone 40 and Older Should Be Considered for the Drug Therapy

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force on Sunday issued new guidance for the use of cholesterol-busting statin drugs. The report greatly expands the universe of people who should be screened to see if they need the medication to everyone over age 40 regardless of whether they have a history of cardiovascular disease. The recommendations also support the position of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, which in 2013 radically shifted their advice from suggesting that doctors focus on the level of a patient’s low-density lipoproteins (LDL) or “bad cholesterol” to looking at a more comprehensive picture...

High levels of chocolate consumption might be associated with a one third reduction in the risk of developing heart disease, suggests a study published online in the British Medical Journal.... The findings confirm results of existing studies that generally agree on a potential beneficial link between chocolate consumption and heart health. However, the authors stress that further studies are needed to test whether chocolate actually causes this reduction or if it can be explained by some other unmeasured (confounding) factor.... They analysed the results of seven studies, involving over 100,000 participants with and without existing heart disease. For each study,...

I turn 45 in November and was just diagnosed with a Bicuspid Aortic Valve. I have no symptoms whatsoever. My doc heard a murmur last month and I had an echocardiogram yesterday. Nurse called me today with the news. I do have pretty high cholesterol, and my blood pressure is usually around 135/80. Any Freepers or their loved ones have this? Any comments are appreciated as I'm continuing my research on the subject.

NORWALK, OH (WOIO) - A bizarre case out of Huron County has detectives looking for the person who belonged to a heart discovered in a field on Milan Avenue in Norwalk. All the Norwalk police department has right now is a heart in a Ziploc bag. They're hoping to determine if it's human, and where it came from. "This is pretty unusual. We have no idea where it came from," said Sgt. Jim Fulton, with Norwalk Police Department. In late August, a North Central EMS crew idling at the Friendship Store on Milan Avenue came across the heart. Fulton said...

Kevin Netto, director of research at Curtin University's School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science, says sex is akin to moderate level exercise. It causes heart rate rises, systolic blood pressure increases, diastolic blood pressure decreases and you sweat more. "It's exactly the same benefits as doing a full body cardio work but the caveat being that you have to maintain it for long enough," A/Prof Netto says. He says a French study found that the act of sex lasts for about 17 minutes on average "from whoa to go". "For most people it's not long enough and it's not often...

In 2010. then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received email from one of her closest personal confidants detailing medical benefits of a new Implantable Heart Defibrillator used to jolt the heart from under the skin to interrupt life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia, records show. The email further complicates questions and controversy wildly swirling around Clinton’s medical history. In fact, these new revelations take the concerns about Clinton’s heath, and her ability to serve as president, to a much more dire level. Betsy Ebeling, Hillary Clinton’s closest friend since six grade, emailed the Secretary of State idetails on a break through for a wireless...

Heart attack patients who took high doses of fish oil supplements for six months showed improved heart function and less scarring, researchers report. It is not yet precisely known how the large amounts of omega-3 fatty acids in these supplements might have helped the healing process, but the results are encouraging, said study senior author Dr. Raymond Kwong. He is director of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. In his study, 360 heart attack survivors were followed for six months. Half of them were given 4 grams of omega-3 fatty acid supplements daily for six...

Tina Hesman SaeyMay 16, 2016 A sugar that freshens air in rooms may also clean cholesterol out of hardened arteries. The sugar, cyclodextrin, removed cholesterol that had built up in the arteries of mice fed a high-fat diet, researchers report April 6 in Science Translational Medicine. The sugar enhances a natural cholesterol-removal process and persuades immune cells to soothe inflammation instead of provoking it, say immunologist Eicke Latz and colleagues. Cyclodextrin, more formally known as 2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin, is the active ingredient in the air freshener Febreze. It is also used in a wide variety of drugs; it helps make hormones, antifungal...

Heart attack victims in the United States are becoming younger and fatter, a new study reveals. The average age of people suffering the deadliest heart attacks fell from 64 years old to 60 years old over the past two decades, Cleveland Clinic researchers report. And obesity is now implicated in 40 percent of severe heart attacks. Heart attack sufferers are also more likely to smoke and have high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) than patients of 20 years ago, the researchers found.

A CIA secret weapon used for assassination shoots a small poison dart to cause a heart attack, as explained in Congressional testimony in the video. The dart from this secret CIA weapon can penetrate clothing and leave nothing but a tiny red dot on the skin. On penetration of the deadly dart, the individual targeted for assassination may feel as if bitten by a mosquito, or they may not feel anything at all. The poisonous dart completely disintegrates upon entering the target. The lethal poison then rapidly enters the bloodstream causing a heart attack. Once the damage is done, the...

I saw a huge waterfall pouring over a beautiful rock formation and the water looked like liquid glass so pure and transparent you could see all the rocks behind it . All around the base of the waterfall were people and they were enjoying the refreshing spray and droplets covering them as a beautiful misty spray and the droplets just seemed to hang in the air effortlessly and the sound of the waterfalls was the roar of His Voice. As I looked over where the water goes over the falls I saw Jesus with his bare feet standing in the...

Dropping coffee from your diet could reduce the risk of heart disease by as much as 15 per cent, according to a study. Britons spend £850million a year on coffee. But experts suggest it can raise levels of cholesterol and homo-cysteine in the blood - both associated with heart disease and strokes. There has been concern about the possible dangers of unfiltered coffee for some time but the more widelyconsumed filtered coffee has generally been given a clean bill of health. The latest study suggests there may be a link between even filtered coffee and cardiovascular disease. The team, led...
