Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Edogan has said that the country’s first domestically-produced assault helicopter is to be exported to friendly countries. Speaking at a ceremony to hand-over T129 assault helicopter to the Turkish Armed Forces at the Turkish Army Air Defence Command in Ankara, the Turkish premier said, “Production of the assault helicopter is a milestone for the development of the country’s defense industry. As many as 59 helicopters will be handed over to the Turkish Armed Forces in the first phase, while some friendly countries have shown their interest for the purchase of these helicopters as well.” The...

"In his new book, “Dark Forces: The Truth About What Happened in Benghazi” (Broadside Books), writer Kenneth R. Timmerman explains how the US government’s efforts to arm the Libyan rebels backfired, flooding weapons into Syria, and as he reveals here, Afghanistan: The Obama administration isn’t only giving the Taliban back its commanders — it’s giving them weapons. Miliary records and sources reveal that on July 25, 2012, Taliban fighters in Kunar province successfully targeted a US Army CH-47 helicopter with a new generation Stinger missile...."
  • India closely watching Russian move to sell attack helicopters to Pakistan

NEW DELHI: India is closely tracking Russia's move to directly supply Mi-35 attack helicopters to Pakistan by lifting an informal arms embargo. But officials here also say that Russian arms have in any case been surreptitiously finding their way to Pakistan through China for years now. "Yes, there is some concern here. But then, other countries like the US and France also sell their weaponry to both sides of the line of control. If the French sell Agosta-90B submarines to Pakistan, they sell the Scorpene submarines to us," said a senior defence official. This comes in the backdrop of Russian...

At least 13 soldiers and an army general were killed Thursday when pro-Russian insurgents shot down a military helicopter outside the eastern Ukrainian city of Sloviansk, interim President Oleksander Turchinov said. "I have received reports from Sloviansk itself that the terrorists shot down a helicopter carrying relief troops. Fourteen soldiers, including Gen. (Vladimir) Kulchitski, have died," Turchinov told Ukrainian media. Pro-Russian militiamen fired a bazooka at the helicopter near Sloviansk, the main pro-Moscow bastion in the Donetsk region, Turchinov said.

Sikorsky Aircraft rolled out the CH-53K, the U.S. Marine Corps’ future heavy lift helicopter, on May 5 at the company’s West Palm Beach, Fla. facility. According to Sikorsky, the mostly composite helicopter—dubbed the “King Stallion”—will fly by year-end, with operational service expected in 2019. “The rollout of the CH-53K helicopter introduces a new era in Marine Corps aviation,” said Sikorsky president Mick Maurer. “The clean-sheet CH-53K will effectively triple the external load carrying capacity of the CH-53E aircraft—to more than 27,000 pounds over a mission radius of 110 nautical miles. With its 88,000-pound maximum gross weight, powerful new engines, lightweight...
  • Five British troops killed in UK's worst helicopter crash in Afghanistan

Five British troops, including personnel from Prince Harry’s former Army unit, have been killed in the UK’s worst helicopter crash in Afghanistan. The tragedy happened when the Lynx helicopter, believed to be on a reconnaissance mission, came down in a mountainous Taliban stronghold close to the Pakistan border. The Ministry of Defence said last night that it had completed a provisional identification of those who died. There was speculation last night that some of those on board may have been special forces. It is the first time British helicopter crew have been killed in more than a decade of flying...
  • Seattle copter crash, IMHO, tail rotor failure!

Very sad about the copter crash in Seattle the other day, with loss of life, but here is my input as a former Army/Vietnam aviator. As the eye-witness accounts said that the copter, which looked liked a Bell Ranger, or an OH-58 as I remember it, they said that as the copter lifted off of the helipad it dipped and started to rotate, which may be a sign of a tail rotor failure. If the tail rotor failed for some reason, there is no control of left/right lateral movement. The copter is then helpless and out of control, and it...

One man could be seen running from from one of the cars with his sleeve on fire, and he was extinguished by officers at the scene.
  • Three-Rotor Copters Set to Change Civilian, Military Helicopter Designs Forever

Its safe to say that the helicopter changed the way that we move passengers, cargo, soldiers and more. The ability for the helicopter to take off and land vertically has always hampered its ability to reach a faster top speed. But that’s all about to change with a new generation of helicopter that can travel as fast as a plane, but still perform all the tasks characteristic of a copter. The origins of the Sikorsky X2 dates back to the S-69 Advanced Blade Concept in 1973. In 2008, this experimental copter made its first flight. Unlike traditional helicopters that use...

Contenders Vie For British AEW Helicopter System British plans for a new AEW helicopter system were in focus at the Defence Security and Equipment International (DSEI) show in London this week. Lockheed Martin UK (LMUK) and Thales will compete for the requirement named Crows Nest, to provide a replacement for Royal Navy’s current Sea King Mk7 airborne surveillance and control (ASaC) helicopters, and be deployable on the UK’s two forthcoming aircraft carriers. The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has specified that the Crows Nest system of radar and consoles be capable of rapid mounting on, and removal from, the Navy’s...

Russian-made chopper faces ironic future in Afghanistan PARIS — In a twist of fate, Russia may end up pitching its newest helicopter to the very people it was designed to fight. At the Paris Air Show in June, Russia held a coming-out news conference for the Kamov company’s Ka-52 Alligator, which they say is now ready for export. The parastatal Russian export company Rosoboronexport is courting India as a buyer. One of the key selling points, Kamov’s designers say, is that the Alligator can handle “hot-and-high” operating conditions, carrying heavy weapons loads in mountinous terrain and in intense heat —...

Michelle Bachmann of Minnesota and former Florida Republican Rep. Allen West also attended, that the U.S. military presented an anti-American speaker at the SEALs’ 2011 funeral.
