Founder’s Quotes – Jefferson and Hamilton on Citizens Duty to be Armed “The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves in all cases to which they think themselves competent, or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press.” Thomas Jefferson (letter to John Cartwright, 1824) ”If the representatives of the people betray...

OKLAHOMA CITY, May 25, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) — State-funded medical facilities in Oklahoma may no longer perform most abortions under a new bill that became law on Wednesday. "Virtually every hospital in the state of Oklahoma will no longer be allowed to do [abortions],” Linda Gray Murphy, a lobbyist with the National Association of Social Workers told Reuters. “If you live in rural Oklahoma, your hospital probably receives state funding." SB 139 was passed by both the Oklahoma House and Senate and became law after Gov. Brad Henry took no action on the bill for five days. The bill now prohibits...

Incumbent Brad Henry is firmly in control of his bid for a second term as Oklahoma’s governor. The latest Rasmussen Reports election poll shows Henry leading his Republican challenger, U.S. Rep. Ernest Istook, 54% to 33%. That’s a 10-point jump in Henry’s lead since our last poll in May. Henry is faring much better with his party base as evidenced by the 83% of Democrats who say they’ll support him versus 58% of Republicans for Istook. He also has stronger crossover pull, drawing support from 27% of GOP voters. Twenty-nine percent (29%) of Oklahoma voters have a “very favorable” opinion...

Outdoors Corner By Bob Sheldon Guest Columnist Of the cartridge repeating rifles used in the American Civil War the best known today is the colorful Henry with its yellow receiver. Total production of Henry rifles was tiny compared to quantity Spencer rifles and carbines purchased by the US Army. Total production of Henry rifles was only about 12,000 with sales to the Federal Government only about 2,000 rifles. Some states purchased Henry Rifles for their militias and other rifles were purchased by individual soldiers or their families. If a soldier had a Henry rifle the Army would issue him cartridges...

Jason Pye isn’t your typical political party chairman. He’s young, tattooed, sports a goatee, and is fiercely independent. But then, he’s the chairman of the Henry County Libertarian party, a party not known for its conformists. And even he sometimes doesn’t tow the party line. Pye, 25, was elected to the party’s chairmanship in January of 2005 after about a year of party interest and involvement. Though the party is small in heavily Republican-leaning Henry County — only about eight to 10 members attend regular monthly meetings — Libertarian candidates have made bids for local and state office from here....

The last remaining U.S. independent counsel, David Barrett, after spending $21 million over 10 years, on Jan. 12 finally will close down his investigation of former Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros' lying to FBI investigators about hush money paid to an ex-mistress. The political significance is that the Barrett report's shocking allegations of high-level corruption in the Internal Revenue Service and Justice Department are likely to be concealed from the public and from Congress. A recently passed appropriations bill, intended to permit release of this report, was altered behind closed doors to ensure that its politically combustible elements never saw the...

Lost in the tumult over Islamic port deals and Katrina video capers is the recently released -- and willfully ignored -- Barrett Report. David Barrett, you'll recall, is the independent counsel appointed in 1995 to investigate allegations of impropriety against President Clinton's Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros. Mr. Barrett found his path mined by the Justice Department, the Internal Revenue Service and President Clinton's attorneys, even after Mr. Clinton departed the White House. He prepared 18 felony indictments against Mr. Cisneros but had to settle for a guilty plea on a misdemeanor charge (lying to the...

December 22, 2005, 8:57 a.m. Can You Hear the Bells? Christmas 1864. In the winter of 1864, an unexpected sense of optimism and good cheer settled on the northern states. The Civil War continued, but the news from the fronts was promising, and hope flourished that with spring the end would come and peace would return. New Yorkers in particular were in a festive frame of mind, of a like unseen since the before the war began. People skated in Central Park, and rode sleighs through the snowy fields. They stopped at shops for warm cider, confections, nuts and dried...

Cisneros. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit said in an order that the time has come for independent counsel David M. Barrett to end the inquiry, which has cost more than $21 million, government records show. **SNIP** The probe continued as Barrett sought to determine whether anyone in the Clinton administration obstructed his investigation of...

HILLARY'S SECRET WAR The Clintons’ enemy list Posted: July 19, 20051:00 a.m. Eastern Editor's note: The following is an eye-opening look into New York Times best-selling author Richard Poe's revealing book, "Hillary's Secret War." Whereas Edward Klein's book on the New York senator reveals previously unknown aspects of her personal life, Poe's expose focuses on how Hillary Clinton and the left's "shadow government" have labored to put her and her far-left agenda in the White House by controlling the still-uncensored flow of real news to Americans – via the Internet. If that sounds too fantastic to be true, read on....

At one end of the street stands the United Nations; at the other end, stands the United States Congress. At issue: whether the U.N.’s diplomatic immunity trumps the subpoena power of the U.S. Congress. Paul Volcker - Kofi Annan’s hand-picked investigator of the oil-for-food scandal - represents the U.N. Henry Hyde - Chairman of the House International Relations Committee - represents the U.S. Volcker has persistently blocked Congressional efforts to secure information about the multi-billion-dollar oil-for-food scandal. Hyde issued a subpoena, which produced several boxes of documents that Volcker says are protected by diplomatic immunity. Volcker wants the documents returned....

Henry Hyde (R-IL), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee during the Clinton impeachment hearings, was interviewed by ABC News political reporter Andy Shaw. The ABC headline is entitled, "Clinton Impeachment was Retaliation for Nixon, Says Retiring Congressman." This is completely bogus. When listening to the clip, I noticed a couple things. First, Andy Shaw said that the impeachment of Clinton embarrassed Henry Hyde because it brought attention to his "hypocrisy" many years earlier when he participated in an extramarital affair. (Unsurprisingly, Shaw did not mention anything about obstruction of justice.) Second, Shaw commented on Hyde's retirement, saying that some people...

Even if the Alberta Human Rights Commission was not busy investigating Bishop Fred Henry, it should still be abolished as a waste of taxpayers' money. Bishop Henry made the news last week by refusing to apologize for promoting the Roman Catholic teaching that sex is legitimate only between husband and wife. In keeping with what his church has been saying for about 2,000 years, the bishop lumped homosexuality in with adultery, prostitution, and pornography as forces which undermine the family. Two Calgarians complained their "rights" have been "violated" by the bishop's teaching and our tax dollars are paying for an...

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Former U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts hasn't ruled out running for governor next year but he said he wasn't ready to make a decision. ''I have been encouraged to do it, and I pay attention to the people who are encouraging me to do it because they've been great friends of mine,'' Watts told The Oklahoman's Washington bureau during a telephone interview on Friday. Watts, a Republican, served as 4th Congressional District representative from 1995 to 2003 in the U.S. House. He now runs the J.C. Watts Cos., which do government affairs and business consulting work in...

Science & Society 10/20/03Digging out the truth of Exodus By Helen Fields Egyptologist Manfred Bietak was reading a 60-year-old report of a dig near Luxor in Egypt when a surprising find caught his eye. Near a mortuary temple from the 12th century B.C., archaeologists had uncovered a grid of shallow trenches, which they guessed was the base of a workers' hut. Bietak, head of the Institute of Egyptology at Vienna University, recognized the floor plan as that of the four-room houses used by almost all Israelites from the 12th to the sixth century B.C. What was it doing in Egypt?...

Henry to Display Ten Commandments Move Could Prompt Legal Fight POSTED: 6:25 am EDT July 7, 2004 MCDONOUGH -- Henry County commissioners have voted to display the Ten Commandments in the county courthouse after a citizen donated a 3-by-2 foot framed copy. "Let them sue. I'm not afraid of a lawsuit," Commissioner Gerry Adams said Tuesday as the commission agreed to the display requested by Ray McBerry, who said he represented League of the South. McBerry suggested that his donated copy of the Ten Commandments, along with the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights, be placed in the...

<p>February 19, 2004 -- TAMPA - Before the first pitcher popped a catcher's leather, the Red Sox and Yankees have their hands exactly where they belong: around each other's throats. With Aaron Boone's ALCS-winning extra-inning home run in October still fresh in the Red Sox Nation's memory, Boston owner John Henry yesterday started a verbal brawl and George Steinbrenner buried his former partner with a pair of vicious rebuttals in which he called Henry a "failure" and accused him of having a belly full of "sour grapes."</p>

A pair of rabbits are put in a field and, if rabbits take a month to become mature and then produce a new pair every month after that, how many pairs will there be in twelve months time? Somewhere around 1200 A.D. an Italian mathematician who went by the pen-name Fibonacci pondered this very problem, a task made a bit easier by his pioneering adoption of the Hindu-Arabic numeric system. The 1,1,2,3,5,8... sequence which resulted is known as the Fibonacci Sequence, and it's connected to both the critical artistic concept of the "golden section" and the "propagating spiral." Hmmm. Breeding...

Texas lawmakers enjoy Ardmore hospitality 2003-05-14 By David Zizzo The Oklahoman ARDMORE -- A large group of absent Texas Democratic lawmakers pursued across the border by Texas lawmen was cornered Tuesday in a grassy motel courtyard by another group almost as large -- reporters. The legislators looked pretty much like Oklahomans, except for that star pinned to their lapels. "We are standing up for the right thing," said Texas state Rep. Jim Dunnam, lining up before cameras and microphones with the other 50 Democrats who accompanied him on the run for the border that landed them at a Holiday Inn....

C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" on Monday had a segment with Gov.-elect Brad Henry, D-OK. This is the first introduction that most outside OK have had of the incoming governor. He appears to be in his early forties and had ten years experience as a state senator prior to being elected governor by a close margin on Nov. 5. I knew absolutely nothing about him until hearing the broadcast. Here are some of the points that he made: Twice he mentioned how much he admired former President Clinton. He pointed out that the "economy was better" under Clinton than it has been...

COLD CASE: MURDER IN SALINE COUNTY After eight years, numerous investigations and two grand juries, the investigation into the murders of Don Henry and Kevin Ives was officially closed in 1995. Kevin's mom, Linda believes it's a case of police protecting police. Linda Ives however, continues to search for the truth about how her son died. Linda co-produced a documentary titled "Obstruction of Justice." Integrity films released it in 1996. The film portrays a botched investigation and a cover-up involving an alleged drug ring with Saline County authorities. "And I think Kevin and Don stumbled upon a drug drop...

One of the biggest surprises of the election to me was the narrow defeat of former Congressman Steve Largent for the OK governorship. One contributor to this forum said that he voted for the independent candidate, who one might argue denied victory to Largent, because Largent spoke in platitudes and had nothing really to say on state issues. The incoming Democrat governor is Brad Henry. Normally, OK does have a Democrat governor, with outgoing Governor Frank Keating having been an exception to the rule for the past eight years. The Republican lieutenant governor was reelected, as I understand. Now could...

NASHVILLE - Gov. Don Sundquist said on Thursday he will vote for Jim Henry to succeed him in the Republican primary, believing Van Hilleary would be a "horrible governor." Sundquist said he "could say the same thing" about Phil Bredesen, the apparent front-runner for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, though he and the former Nashville mayor "get along fine personally." "I think Bredesen has lost a great opportunity to exhibit leadership. All he's done is 'me, too' to Van Hilleary," he said. Sundquist also reaffirmed his support for Lamar Alexander in the Republican U.S. Senate primary. He characterized Ed Bryant, Alexander's...
