Washington Huskies fans don't have much faith in beating No. 3 Texas in the Sugar Bowl to advance to the national championship. Washington is the only College Football Playoff team that has yet to sell all of its national championship ticket allotment. How do we know this? The Huskies sent out an email reminding donors and season-ticket holders that tickets are still available. Washington has a 20,000 ticket allotment for its fans if the Huskies reach hte national championship game. Fans can claim those tickets, which will be refunded if Washington fails to reach the national championship. It's pretty sad...

Chris Petersen has stepped down as the head coach at the University of Washington. The shocking news was announced by the school on Monday, three days after UW concluded the 2019 season with a win over rival Washington State to finish the regular season with a 7-5 record. Petersen spent six seasons as UW’s head coach, accumulating a 54-26 record with two Pac-12 titles and one College Football Playoff appearance. With Petersen stepping down, defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake has been promoted to head coach.

Moments after she began smashing the windows of a late-model Chrysler Town & Country minivan outside the 2019 Detroit auto show, police had the white, floppy-eared dog in handcuffs. In a move reminiscent of a “Scooby-Doo" episode, an officer lifted the costumed dog head -- after throwing her white-gloved paws to the glass-covered concrete -- revealing an animal rights activist beneath. The Detroit woman joined more than a dozen others, some from out of state, during a PETA protest of a Chrysler dealership outside the 2019 North American International Auto Show. The activists condemned the Alaska dealership’s sponsorship of the...

TOOELE, Utah — The owner of a female husky faces a slew of charges after the dog allegedly killed more than two dozen animals in the backyards of at least two Utah homes in just a couple of hours, according to KSTU. Police caught the culprit – a 4-year old husky – and now her owner is facing nearly 30 misdemeanor charges. One of the Tooele residents who lost several animals, Trip Kiss, runs a petting zoo with his wife to teach animal husbandry to children with disabilities. FULL TITLE: 'I have done absolutely nothing wrong': Four-time Iditarod winner speaks out after being accused of DOPING his dogs in preparation for the annual long-distance sled race Four-time Iditarod champion Dallas Seavey denied Monday that he administered banned drugs to his dogs in this year's race and said he has withdrawn from the 2018 race in protest over the allegations. 'I have never given any banned substance to my dogs,' Seavey said in a video posted to his Facebook page. He didn't immediately return calls to The Associated Press after the Iditarod Trail Committee identified him as the musher...
  • TV blamed for 'wolves' trend: Soaring numbers of dog breeds including huskies being abandoned

Soaring numbers of ‘wolf breed’ dogs are being abandoned by owners unable to cope with the pets - which have become popular after featuring in cult films and television shows such as Twilight and Game of Thrones. Charities including The Dogs Trust say hundreds of dogs such as Malamutes, Huskies and Sarloos were given up last year because their demands for attention and exercise are proving too much. And last week, six day-old Eliza-Mae Mullane was mauled to death by her parents’ pet Alaskan Malamute at their home in Pontyberem, Carmarthenshire. Police are currently still investigating the circumstances of the...
  • (UConn)College’s husky dog logo promotes rape, says (feminist) student

The new logo for the University of Connecticut’s sports teams is a terrifying husky dog that calls to mind images of sexual assault, says one student. The new logo was unveiled last week, receiving mixed-to-negative reviews from UConn fans who preferred the older, cuter husky dog. But one student went much further, criticizing the new, meaner logo for being a pro-rape symbol. In an open letter to UC President Susan Herbst, self-described feminist student Carolyn Luby wrote that the redesigned team logo will intimidate women and empower rape culture. UConn basketball coach Geno Auriemma said the logo “is looking right...

Police are investigating the slaughter of 100 husky dogs used during the 2010 Winter Olympics to pull tourist sleds in the Canadian ski resort of Whistler, authorities said Monday. The grisly killings were reportedly carried out by one worker over two days in April 2010 with a shotgun and a knife, with reports of injured dogs crawling out of a mass grave. Local media said the dogs were killed because business slumped in the two months following the Games and they were no longer needed by tourism companies Outdoor Adventures and Howling Dogs, which sell dog-sled rides to tourists.

SAN ANTONIO Sometimes things don't work out perfectly. So much can happen from the blueprint to the bouquets that just getting the chance to win a national championship is a blessing. But to win another championship in the same fashion, so fluently, so flawlessly, so fabulously, is something the sport may never see again. The magnificent run to a seventh national championship for the nation's pre-eminent college basketball program ended with an unusual but emphatic 53-47 win over Stanford at The Alamodome. Maya Moore, the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four, scored 18 of her game-high 23 points in...

The best it got for Washington's football program under Tyrone Williams was a five-win season in 2006. SEATTLE -- Washington coach Tyrone Willingham said Monday he will step down at the end of the 2008 season. The embattled Washington coach fell to 0-7 on Saturday after a 33-7 loss to Notre Dame. Willingham and athletics director Scott Woodward made the announcement at a news conference. Willingham has been under fire for being unable to turn around the Washington program. He is 11-32 overall in his four seasons with the Huskies. Washington currently has a nine-game losing streak dating back to...

When Curtis Williams took the field for the Huskies' 2000 season opener, the University of Washington's media guide described him like this: Senior, strong safety, 5-foot-10, 200 pounds. Named, in 1999, the team's best hitter. Led team in solo tackles. Went to high school in Fresno, Calif., where he was a top recruit. The seventh of eight kids. Pursuing a degree in American ethnic studies. Here's what the media guide didn't say: When Williams played against Idaho, he had a warrant out for his arrest. He'd been arrested every year he was here: 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000. He was...

Self-serving speech I was in attendance last Saturday at the commencement activities at the University of Washington. I was both embarrassed and angered by the pontification and obvious self-importance of Rep. Dicks. Never could I have imagined a commencement speaker at a major university being booed and heckled while speaking to the graduates. Then again, I could never have imagined anyone giving such a self-serving, self-glorification speech as he did. A speaker at such an event is supposed to inspire the graduates who are now going out into the world to seek their own destiny. They did not come to...
