With a view to maximize use of immigration-enforcement resources, the Obama administration has decided it will, on a case by case basis, allow many illegal immigrants who face deportation to remain in the U.S. A senior administration official said Thursday that federal authorities will review individually the cases of some 300,000 illegal immigrants in deportation proceedings. Those who haven't committed crimes and aren't deemed a threat to public safety will have a chance to stay in the U.S. and apply for a work permit. "The idea is to make sure that we are investing enforcement resources where they are best...

Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska? I don't know, I don't know. That's a good question. As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported? There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant -there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants- not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration. Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or...

A judge in West Texas has dismissed a $25 million wrongful death lawsuit brought by the family of a 15-year-old Mexican boy killed by a Border Patrol agent. Senior U.S. District Judge David Briones on Aug. 11 threw out the lawsuit filed against the U.S. over the 2010 shooting of Sergio Adrian Hernandez Guereca of Ciuidad Juarez. The El Paso Times (http://bit.ly/rmUHwn) reported Thursday that the ruling says the boy was shot while in Mexico and no statutes apply in suing the U.S. government.

AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM) – One of the most pressing issues for conservative Republican primary voters is illegal immigration. It’s also an issue that could prove troublesome for Gov. Perry in his presidential bid. The question of border security is something that has long been considered “red meat” for conservative grassroots activists whose support is crucial in Republican primaries.

(CNSNews.com) - The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on Tuesday that it has awarded $28.8 million to 67 community health centers with funds from the Obamacare health reform law. Of that $28.8 million, "approximately $8.5 million will be used by 25 New Access Point awardees to target services to migrant and seasonal farm workers," Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Spokeswoman Judy Andrews told CNSNews.com. HRSA is a part of HHS. Andrews said that grant recipients will not check the immigration status of people seeking services. “Health centers do not, as a matter of routine practice, ask...

by John HillStand With ArizonaAlabama GOP leaders slammed Eric Holder and the Department of Justice for suing the state over H.B. 56, saying the Federal failure to secure the border and enforce immigration laws has compelled the states to act. And they showed strong defiance that they would prevail against Holder and his ACLU legal team. Mike Hubbard, the Alabama House Speaker said: “Make no mistake, this lawsuit will not undo Alabama’s immigration law. If the court finds problems with parts of the law, tweaks can be made,” Mr. Hubbard said. “But Alabama is not going to be a sanctuary...

NOGALES, Ariz. — An American immigration agent bounded up the steps of a bus about to cross the United States-Mexico border recently and demanded to see the papers of all those aboard. “Papers!” he shouted, eyeing passengers warily as he walked up and down the aisle. Such checks are not surprising given all the attention focused on illegal immigration these days. But this bus full of migrants was leaving the United States, not entering it. A raft of immigration laws in Arizona and other states is designed to make life so difficult for illegal immigrants that they pack their bags...

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Alan Bersin has essentially thrown in the towel on efforts to completely seal the U.S.-Mexican border, saying that would require up to half a million troops. Speaking at an event sponsored by the Center for American Progress (CAP) on Thursday, Bersin said: "We would need on the order of about 400,000 or 500,000 border patrol agents to seal the border." Those agents would have to be stationed "25 yards" apart along the entire length of the border, he said, adding that Americans would not want to pay "the costs that would be involved." CAP...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Obama administration on Monday sued to block enforcement of Alabama's new immigration law, widely considered to be the toughest measure in the United States to try to crack down on illegal immigrants. The law, known as H.B. 56, was signed by Republican Governor Robert Bentley in June and is due to take effect on September 1. Civil rights groups brought a separate lawsuit challenging the law about a month ago.

Do you realize that America has the worst economy on our continent? White House officials will get unbelievably angry when this is pointed out, but 5% unemployment was what this nation enjoyed under President Bush. So what did President Bush know, and what do Mexico and Canada now know that President Obama doesn't know? Most likely it's got something to do with the idea that small businesses are the engine to a growing economy. And while Mexico is building things and growing things, inner city Obama voters are sitting on their tukas (or in the collective "tukai") groaning about how...

A member of the violent Mara Salvatrucha street gang was convicted in federal court Thursday of prostituting a 12-year-old girl who was a runaway, authorities said. Jose C. Juarez-Santamaria, 24, met the girl at a Halloween party in Oxon Hill in 2009, according to court papers. The girl asked for his help finding a place to stay, but he began prostituting her the next day. “From the moment he laid eyes on the victim, Juarez-Santamaria did not see a young 12-year-old runaway in need of help,” Neil MacBride, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, said in a statement....

Washington (CNSNews.com) – Rep. Silvestre Reyes (D-Texas) said that legislation introduced by Republicans to suspend President Barack Obama’s authority to exercise "prosecutorial discretion" in deciding which illegal aliens to deport shows that the Republican Party is “anti-minority.” He also said Republicans want to limit Obama’s authority because they don’t like him as president. A small Texas city is being sued for discrimination by dozens of Latino day laborers who claim that police are unconstitutionally targeting their free-speech right to express their availability for employment in public areas, even though a state law has long prohibited it. Collectively known as Jornaleros de Las Palmas, or the Day Laborers of Palmas, the men are represented by a powerful open-borders group (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund or MALDEF) that specializes in discrimination lawsuits on behalf of Latinos and illegal immigrants. In this case MALDEF accuses police in League City, located southeast of Houston, of...

President Obama let his frustration over the stalled debt talks seep into an address on Latino issues on Monday, confessing that he’d like to “bypass Congress and change the laws on my own.” He told the National Council of La Raza, “Believe me, the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting. Huge increases in deportations of people after they were arrested for breaking traffic or immigration laws or driving drunk helped the Obama administration set a record last year for the number of criminal immigrants forced to leave the country, documents show. The U.S. deported nearly 393,000 people in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, half of whom were considered criminals. Of those, 27,635 had been arrested for drunken driving, more than double the 10,851 deported after drunken driving arrests in 2008, the last full year of the Bush administration, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement data provided to The...
