[Snip]...The visualization below, inspired by the recent 50th anniversary of Moore’s law, tells the story of the trillion fold increase in computing performance we’ve witnessed over the past sixty years. That’s impressive enough, but some of the other finds are downright astounding. The Apollo guidance computer that took early astronauts to the moon, for instance, has the processing power of 2 Nintendo Entertainment Systems, while the Cray-2 supercomputer from 1985—the fastest machine in the world for its time—roughly measures up to an iPhone 4.
  • Analyst: the HTC Thunderbolt is outselling the iPhone at Verizon stores

Back when the Verizon iPhone was first announced we assumed that it would easily outsell the HTC Thunderbolt because, well, it's the iPhone. But it looks like we might have been very wrong because according to one analyst the Thunderbolt is beating up the iPhone and taking it's lunch money. Walter Piecyk, an analyst at BTIG Research, and his team made calls to 150 Verizon stores across 22 US cities and discovered that while the iPhone was outselling the Thunderbolt at 11 percent of the stores, the phones were selling even at 61 percent. Even better for HTC, the Thunderbolt...

Newsbrief by Todd Haselton on Friday February 04, 2011. Sponsored links, if any, appear in green. Verizon Wireless said that at 8:10pm EST yesterday it stopped the online pre-orders of the iPhone 4, ending the most successful first day of sales in Verizon Wireless' history. In fact, just two hours after the iPhone 4 went on sale it already passed the record for most phones sold on a launch day. "Yesterday's launch set the pace for next week when we open up sales to everyone Across America," Dan Mead, president and CEO of Verizon Wireless said. The iPhone 4 will...
  • Apple Holding iPhone 4 Press Conference Friday

Apple sent out invites to a select few media outlets for a press conference scheduled for this coming Friday that’ll begin at 10:00 am PST. The only thing known at this point is the conference will be centered around the iPhone 4. Presumably they’ll be addressing the reception issue caused by the infamous death grip. What’ll be their response? Apple’s always been pretty stubborn to acknowledge problems with any of their products. It was just this week that they released a statement for malfunctioning Time Capsules produced two years ago. They could certainly take this opportunity to acknowledge the iPhone...
  • Microsoft exec mocks iPhone 4, dubs it Apple's Vista

A top Microsoft executive today compared Apple's iPhone 4 to his own company's problem-plagued Vista operating system. "It looks like the iPhone 4 might be their Vista, and I'm okay with that," said Kevin Turner, Microsoft's chief operating officer, in a keynote speech at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC), which runs through Thursday in Washington, D.C. The successor to Windows XP, Vista launched in early 2007 and was heavily criticized by users, and in a series of e-mails that became public during a class-action lawsuit, even by the company's own senior executives. The consensus, deserved or not, has become that...
  • iPhone 4 bursts into flames, burns hand

iPhone 4 bursts into flames, burns hand by Boy Genius on July 8th, 2010 at 3:47pm One of our very close AT&T sources just sent us in these images. Yes, it’s a fried iPhone 4. Apparently a customer brought the phone into the store to try and get help with it, although it’s pretty evident that the phone is unrepairable. It’s the first time our guy has seen this happen (us too), but the brand new iPhone 4 caught on fire while being hooked up to a computer using the Apple USB cable that accompanied the device.

  • Good job with iPhone 4, but the Sprint HTC EVO 4G is staying

Jason posted his WWDC iPhone 4 checklist today and now that we know all about the iPhone 4 I would have to say this checklist shows exactly why I am planning to skip this version of the iPhone and stick with my new Sprint HTC EVO 4G device. The HTC EVO 4G has everything on Jason’s list and more already up and running. It looks like the pace of Google has brought Android into the lead with Apple for innovation and excitement in the mobile space. Looking at Jason’s list I would have to say that the most appealing features...
