One hundred and fifty members of Congress – all Democrats and, among them, most of the small group of bitterly anti-Israel lawmakers – signed a letter supporting President Obama’s diplomatic efforts vis-à-vis the Iranian nuclear weapons program. Authored by Reps. Jan Schakowsky (Illinois), Lloyd Doggett (Texas), and David Price (North Carolina), the letter exemplifies the hyper-partisanship that has driven the left wing of the Democrat party on this issue even as that wing has cried “partisan extremism” at the responses from Republicans. As if trying to prove Churchill right, this Iran Surrender Caucus, whenever presented with a choice between dishonor...

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) was forced to apologize on Tuesday, after attacking a political opponent for being an "Orthodox Jew" at a radical leftist J Street conference. At the conference, Schakowsky negatively painted Joel Pollak, her opponent in 2010 elections, by highlighting the fact that he is a religious Jew - a choice of words that the crowd responded to by booing Pollak. In her comments, she criticized Pollak for being a "Jewish, Orthodox, Tea Party Republican." The remarks can be seen in the following video, with the specific reference to Pollak starting at 52 seconds in.

In a sometimes heated meeting with Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., several House Democrats expressed anger Wednesday over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s acceptance of a Republican invitation to address Congress next month. Some of the seven lawmakers—all of whom are Jewish and strong supporters of Israel—urged the prime minister to postpone the speech or hold it somewhere other than Congress, participants said. They told Ambassador Ron Dermer that Netanyahu was unwise to accept a GOP invitation that bypassed President Barack Obama, and to schedule the speech only two weeks before Netanyahu seeks another term in Israel’s elections. The meeting’s purpose...

Congressional Republicans seethed while Democrats were cautiously excited on eve of President Obama's big announcement about his plans to ease deportation laws for millions of people living here illegally. “I’m looking for big!" Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., told the Washington Examiner, when asked what she hoped Obama would say in a prime time address on Thursday. “What we are hearing is it will be five million people who are now not going to be deported. That’s keeping families together, and that’s huge in my district.” The president plans to make significant changes to U.S. immigration policy when he announces his...

I announced this past week that I will be retiring after having the honor of serving my Los Angeles constituents in Congress for 40 years. Immediately, speculation began that I am leaving because I am frustrated with a broken institution. But the exact opposite is true: I am leaving Congress with my conviction intact that the legislative branch can be a powerful force for good. Of course there are aspects of the current Congress that I abhor. This past week, every Republican on the Energy and Commerce Committee, where I have served most of my career, voted to limit the...

At a congressional hearing Wednesday, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., a steadfast supporter of the Affordable Care Act, reminded her Republican colleagues that the health care law is here to stay. "You know, I want to say to my colleagues after a three-and-a-half year campaign to repeal, to discredit, to even shut down the government over Obamacare, I want to say: get over it," Schakowsky said during the hearing investigating the botched HealthCare.gov rollout. It's true, as the administration likes to point out, that Obamacare was signed into law three years ago and has survived the Supreme Court and a presidential...

House Democrats downplayed the significance of problems facing ObamaCare's enrollment system after their first post-rollout meeting with administration officials. Democratic lawmakers appeared upbeat after leaving a presentation from Gary Cohen, a key figure in ObamaCare's implementation at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). "We didn't work our hearts out for a website," said Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), quoting House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). "The route in, that's a technical issue that we think is being solved," Schakowsky said. There was also no discussion of delaying ObamaCare's individual mandate, according to members — a possibility that's been floated...

Rtightened his handcuffs. “I thought I’d be treated better ep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) said police who arrested him Tuesday by the Capitol Police than I was,” Rangel said on FOX Business Network Friday. Rangel was one of several Democratic lawmakers arrested by U.S. Capitol Police at an immigration reform rally on the National Mall. “I think they were trying to help me, but the cuffs were so tight that when I said loosen up the cuffs — and I wasn’t cursing then — in an attempt to loosen it up, one of the rookie cops actually tightened it,” he said....

A House Democrat who joined striking fast-food workers in Illinois yesterday said the American economy needs doubled wages for the restaurant workers. “This gets to the heart of our economic problem in this country which is income inequality. And yes, those arches are made of gold for people like CEO Donald Thompson who makes over $13.7 million in his pay package last year. But I met fast food workers today at McDonald’s who have been working there for a decade and still making $8.50 an hour,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) said on MSNBC. “You cannot live on that kind of...

“Our survival as a species is dependent on women taking charge,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) told a gathering at a campaign fundraiser earlier this month. She made the comment before introducing Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund … “I really do believe that we are at a tipping point from which there could be no turning back—a turning point that the traditional male hierarchy of the world ignores at their own peril. A peril that puts us all in the unacceptable danger—actually of extinction, so let us begin the era of the woman.” …

What is it with Martin Bashir and his proclivity to strut salacious language with women guests? A couple of months ago, we noted the MSNBC host claiming to guest Karen Finney that Marco Rubio, in his questioning of a hearing witness, was seeking to show that he had "very strong testicles." This evening, taking things a vulgar step further, Bashir told another Dem woman that Americans so detest Congress that they "would rather contract gonorrhea" than show respect for that institution.
It sure didn’t take long for Democrats to strike back at Thursday’s National Prayer Breakfast remarks made by Dr. Benjamin Carson that took a conservative tack and criticized the national debt and current fiscal tax-and-spend policy.

On a CNN on Sunday, Illinois Rep. Jan Schakowsky accused Dr. Carson of hypocrisy, saying he actually used political correctness — which he had denounced in his speech — for his personal gain.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) announced Sunday that she has spearheaded a bipartisan letter calling on the French government to cancel plans to release a convicted terrorist who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of an American and an Israeli diplomat. The letter, which was sent to France’s Ambassador to the United States, urges French officials to stop the release of George Ibrahim Abdallah, the former head of the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Brigade who was convicted in 1987 of killing an Israeli diplomat and a U.S. military attaché. The U.S. State Department has also expressed its opposition...

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D.-Ill.) said she was “unaware” that the preventive services regulation that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius issued under the Obamacare law requires health care plans to offer free sterilizations to girls as young as their teens. However, back in March, Schakowsky did acknowledge that the mandate offers sterilizations free of charge to college-age women, stressing that the HHS rules were designed to “protect the health of women, women of all ages.” The HHS regulation, which takes effect on Aug. 1, requires nearly all health care plans in the United States to provide, without

On Sunday, June 24, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) marched in Chicago’s annual Gay Pride Parade. Congresswoman Schakowsky informed me this was about the 30th time she has attended the event. After speaking with the congresswoman briefly about the incident at the White House last week, that involved invited gay rights activist who photographed themselves giving a painting of President Ronald Reagan the middle finger, I noticed a large American flag displayed prominently on the front of her float. One problem with Jan’s show of patriotism during the extravagant parade of LGBT pride, however, was that Congresswoman Schakowsky’s display of...
