  • Ryan, McCarthy again tell Chaffetz to stay away from Clinton

Speaker Paul Ryan and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy met privately with Rep. Jason Chaffetz Wednesday evening to reiterate that he cannot proceed with any investigation that involves Hillary Clinton, according to multiple sources familiar with the meeting. The impetus for the gathering was a POLITICO story where Chaffetz, the chairman, of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, was quoted as saying that a pending probe into government record keeping practices would not be "specifically trying to target the secretary, but when she creates her own private email system, she's ensnarled herself.” Presented with the quote before publication, House...

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump's campaign is resonating with Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah). "I like a lot of what he's saying" Chaffetz told UtahPolicy.com. "There are a lot of things that he says that I really do like, that I think other people should be talking about and how he does it is his own style." Chaffetz, who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said Trump's followers are "attracted to him for a variety of reasons - they want results, they want somebody who's going to blow through the red tape, who will actually get things done...

“If you flipped through the news channels Wednesday looking for a recap of the House Oversight Committee hearing on Planned Parenthood, you’d think that GOP congressmen had launched a sexist ambush on CEO Cecile Richards. At least that’s what she told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow: ‘I do think some of the comments were pretty sexist,’ Cecile Richards said in an interview on MSNBC’s ‘The Rachel Maddow Show’ late Tuesday. ‘But actually I think it was because they didn’t have anything else to talk about.’ Actually, Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and company had plenty to talk about. Richards’ salary was a minor...

The news alert about Kevin McCarthy’s abandonment of his pursuit to become John Boehner’s successor hit my phone just as I was about to go for a run. Rather than read the whole story, I just smiled and hit the pavement. Within the first few steps I wondered how long it would take before the hyperbole-laden garment rending would begin in the left media about conservatives being the death of the Republican Party, congressional compromise, and the frolicsome joy we so love to see in puppies and kittens. It was a short run, but they were on it by the...

Powerful Republican Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) stood firm on Thursday in his desire not to become the next Speaker of the House. Ryan, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued a statement after House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy shocked the GOP when he abruptly ended his candidacy to replace Speaker John Boehner. "While I am grateful for the encouragement I've received, I will not be a candidate," Ryan said. A group of hard-line conservatives threatened to upend the Republican race to succeed outgoing House Speaker John A. Boehner, announcing on Wednesday it will throw its support behind a little-known Florida lawmaker to become the next speaker. The House Freedom Caucus’s backing of Rep. Daniel Webster (R-Fla.) ahead of a crucial internal party vote Thursday deeply complicates Majority Leader Kevin O. McCarthy’s bid to succeed Boehner. The group counts enough members — about 40 — to deny McCarthy the majority of the whole House he would need to claim the speaker’s chair. But in an opening for the California Republican,...

Man, this is tough stuff from an influential conservative at a moment when McCarthy’s desperately trying to convince righties in the House to give him a chance as Speaker. In an unguarded moment, House speaker-in-waiting Kevin McCarthy claimed credit for the decline in Hillary Clinton's poll numbers because House Republicans had formed a congressional committee investigating the attacks in Benghazi, making it look like a political witch hunt. “I heard from him at 6 a.m. the next morning,” Gowdy told the Post on Tuesday when asked about McCarthy. “How many times can somebody apologize? It probably wasn’t the best idea for Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), the presumptive successor to outgoing Speaker of the House John Boehner, to suggest that Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers were sinking due to the existence of the House Select Committee on Benghazi. The Clinton Team already has a campaign ad about it, and Rep. The calendar for new House leadership elections has been pushed back, meaning that the scrambling for position, internal sniping and various bits of dirty laundry being aired is going to stretch on for nearly two more months. Originally we expected to see nominations for the new Speaker and the election of the new Majority Leader and GOP Whip taking place this Thursday, but this afternoon John Boehner threw a wrench in those plans and pushed things back to after he’s left the building. “I didn’t feel good about it”. Washington loves waving away questions after a scandal with a commission or a review board. The so-called Accountability Review Board on Benghazi whose results the media trumpeted as answering all the questions about what happened was rigged from the start. Thomas Pickering is a highly partisan figure who, among other things, is a key Iran Lobby figure. A few scapegoats were served up without actually firing them. To keep conservative rebels in check, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and his allies have been doling out punishments at an aggressive clip in the 114th Congress. House Republicans say they’re proud of their 2013 campaign to stymie President Obama’s regulatory agenda, even as Congress comes under fire for one of its least productive years. The bitterly divided Congress will pass fewer laws in 2013 than any year in modern history. As a result of the gridlock, President Obama has turned to his administration’s regulatory authority in pursuit of key policy goals, including efforts to tackle gun violence and climate change. Jason Chaffetz clearly doesn’t believe that these new charges against Ahmed Khattala represent any priority by the Obama administration to capture the terrorists who killed four of our own. In fact, he says it’s a little offensive to suggest it is a priority at this point: I think these new charges have more to do with the fact that CNN embarrassed the administration with Khattala than any priority on capturing the terrorists. The Obama administration, obviously, couldn’t care less about the phony scandal known as Benghazi and the lives that were taken from us.

GOP Rep.: White House ‘Hand-Selected’ Benghazi E-Mails By Andrew Johnson May 16, 2013 10:03 AM Representative Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah) said the White House e-mails about Benghazi that were released last night were “hand-selected” to leave out other important documents. “I know absolutely, for total certainty, this is just but a small smidgeon of what they have,” Chaffetz said. There are 25,000-pages worth of documents, he said, but the White House released only100 total pages. “The White House has hand-selected these,” he added.

On his Thursday night PBS program, Charlie Rose attempted to fulfill his duties as a liberal media member by defending the State Department’s dishonest talking points following the September 11 terrorist attack in Benghazi. Rose was grilling Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), who was involved in the Benghazi hearings, about his views on the matter. When Rose asked Chaffetz if he believed there was a coverup, the congressman was ready. He brought up the fact that for days after the attack, the administration claimed the incident had been sparked by a spontaneous demonstration over an anti-Islam YouTube video. But Chaffetz and...

Former Obama National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor has let loose on Twitter this morning, mocking the Benghazi hearing today as "amateur hour."Vietor also mocked the hearings as conspiracy theories on par with Area 51 and the moon landings conspiracy theories:Heard that Rep. Cummings asked Rep. Issa to include Thomas Pickering, cochair of ARB report in today's hearing, but Issa refused. #BenghaziWhy on earth would Issa refuse to let the cochair of an independent review board on #Benghazi testify at his hearing on the subject?Could it be that today's #Benghazi hearing has nothing to do with fact-finding but is just...

State Department preparing for Libya bombshell?Published December 14, 2012 FoxNews.com Susan Rice's abrupt withdrawal from consideration for secretary of state, coupled with suggestions from the State Department that Secretary Hillary Clinton may not testify as scheduled next week, has stirred speculation that something big is brewing in the Libya terror attack investigation. "You're starting to see the State Department squirm a little bit," Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said. For the better part of the last three months, an independent board has been conducting a review for the State Department of the Sept. 11 terror attack in Benghazi. In anticipation of...

Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R- UT) told Breitbart News on Wednesday that he has been “thwarted” by the State Department from seeing any Americans who survived the deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi. Many people forget that there were Americans who survived the Benghazi attack, some of whom were badly injured and are still recovering. “My understanding is that we still have some people in the hospital. I’d like to visit with them and wish them nothing but the best but the State Department has seen it unfit for me to know who those people are—or even how...

DARRELL ISSA SAYS REQUESTS FOR BETTER PROTECTION WERE DENIED By Posted :27 PM CDT 1 image Touch for photo gallery (NEWSER) – The White House response to the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi keeps generating headlines. Today, Republicans Darrell Issa and Jason Chaffetz laid out about a dozen incidents they say occurred prior to the Sept. 11 attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens. Asked about it today, White House...
  • Obama 2007 Bill NOT IDENTICAL to Chaffetz Bill to Fire Federal Tax Cheats

Maybe I'm not reading legislation thoroughly, but I think I am. Does anyone seriously think Obama would sponsor legislation to fire federal workers for non-payment of income taxes? Fox Business says Obama sponsored a bill in 2007 "identical" to that of yesterday's bill from Rep. Jason Chaffetz to do just that. Chaffetz wants federal employees fired if they haven't paid their taxes, and he wants no one hired who has delinquent taxes. Obama's 2007 legislation, which died in committee in a Democratically controlled Senate, called only for barring tax-evading contractors and those receiving grants. Big difference. The rest of the story...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: There were fireworks yesterday, ladies and gentlemen, in Washington. Darrell Issa's committee, House Judiciary Committee, they had Eric Holder up, and they're talking about Fast and Furious. And this is one of the exchanges between Issa and Holder. ISSA: I want to ask you, first of all, today, have you and your attorneys produced internally the materials responsive to the subpoenas? HOLDER: We believe that we have responded to the subpoena -- ISSA: No, Mr. Attorney General, you're not a good witness. A good witness answers the question asked. So let's go back again. Have you and...

Capitol Hill- It was another tense hearing for Attorney General Eric Holder on Capitol Hill where he testified before the House Judiciary Committee about Justice Department Oversight today. Holder was asked about and covered a variety of topics, but his personal role and those of his senior Justice Department officials in the lethal Fast and Furious operation were front and center. Chairman Lamar Smith opened his remarks with Fast and Furious, saying the Department of Justice has not provided enough information about the operation that has left hundreds dead in Mexico and at least one U.S. federal agent, Brian...

In March of 2011, former Rep. John Leboutiller predicted in a News Max article that, “the tea party will select the 2012 GOP nominee.” At the time, it was a safe prediction given the strength of the tea-party movement in the 2010 elections and the influence it was expected to have on the GOP presidential primaries just over a year later. But something went terribly wrong in the meantime. Many politicians heavily supported by the tea-party movement seem to have switched sides, pursuing their own agenda at the expense of the conservative movement and the tea party. Take Christine O’Donnell,...
