Introduction: For the last 14 years I have produced an annual review of the buildup and modernization of the Chinese Navy, the People's Liberation Army Navy, or "PLAN" as it is called. At the time these reviewws started, the PLAN was just embarking on producing more mordern vessels, and had acquired a carrier, the old Soviet Varyag, which was the second in their Kuznetsov class, but which was sitting unfinished in Ukraine due to the fall of the Soviet Union. The Chinese indicated at the time that they were buying it through a private company to make it into...

An Open Letter to Ted Cruz Senator Cruz, April 20, 2016 I wanted to write this letter to you in the hopes that you will get it and be able to read it. I have been, and am, a supporter and admirer of yours. You have been a staunch supporter of the constitution, conservative values, and stood (many times alone) against a GOP Establishment that has not kept faith with the conservative base of the party who electe them. I have supported you from afar as you won offices in TExas, including your stinning victory for the US SEnate. I...

42nd Entry: December 23rd, 2014- Report on AUG radiation therapy and 5 years since diagnosis Well, I am very late entering this information and making this entry. In early August we traveled to MD Anderson in Houston for our annual pilgrimage and to accomplish three things. To conduct our annual check-up on my Chorodoma with Dr. Rhines and Gisella, his chief nurse practioner. To attend the Annually Brain and Spine Tumor conference held each year at MD Anderson, hear the presentations, and especially to see all of our friends there. To conduct the stereo-tactic radiation treatment that Dr. Rhines had...

Week before last I had those checkups and they went extremely well. No sign of any new cancer around where my sacrum used to be and that is very good. As good a bone fusion to the bone from my right fibula that they used as a support down there as it can be. Very strong and lots of it. Also strong bone fusion...

An Unforgiving Temper By Gail Head Foy anyone familiar with and a fan of Jane Austen's works, particularly her novel, "Pride and Prejudice," Gail Head's, "An Unforgiving Temper," is a must-have and must-read. Imagine: What if Elizabeth never went to Pemberley? What if the events in Ramsgate ended in an explosive conflict that set Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam's course on a different path that was filled with implacable resentment and filled others with a rapacious thirst for revenge? "An Unforgiving Temper," is the captivating story of what Darcy and Elizabeth's journey might have been. This 502 page, riveting novel is...

I didn't get my update on date posted Sunday night...sorry. I went home and went to bed at 9:30 pm. Jeff has been doing physical and occupational therapy every day this week (one morning and one afternoon) which wipes him out physically, but he is feeling pretty good. Last week he had a fever every evening for 3 days, then we had to wear face masks for two days, then he got a bowel infection and is now on contact isolation, so we have to wear these paper gowns and gloves while we're in the room. I guess the bowel...

Another week, and we are seven days closer to going home! Jeff continues to have more good days. A lot of time he has a good day and then sort of crashes in the evening. For some reason, his body temp sporadically fluctuates giving him bad chills one moment and then almost a fever . (Makes it hard to keep his room temperature consistent!) Yesterday (Sunday) he actually had a fever of 101, so the doctor ordered blood cultures, urine culters, and x-rays. Tomorrow (tuesday) he will also have some sort of test to make sure he doesn't have any...

This week has been long and challenging for Jeff, but he continues to improve. The drain tubes in his legs came out, making Jeff much happier that what little bit he can move his legs/feet is now unfettered. He now only has four in his back which is much better than the nine he had after his second surgery! There is also good news that Jeff will not have to stay in bed for three weeks before they start getting him up. After conferring and viewing an updated CT scan, they decided to start him on the tilt table this...

Okay, so I have to apologize for taking so long to get an update out. I was kind of burned out for a couple of days after Jeff’s last surgery…too much time at the hospital and not enough sleep. I have decided that I will try to get an update out each Sunday evening. That gives me a target and gives you all an idea of what to expect. Jeff’s third and final surgery was Tuesday, May 11 to do the bone graft. Dr. Rhines told me it would be two or three hours, but now I’m thinking he must...

Jeff is finally "waking up" from the Friday surgery. The swelling has gone WAY down except for one hand. They took his breathing tube out this afternoon and he is talking to me (albeit VERY softly). I was reading him some of the posts and he said to ask everyone to pray for water. He is VERY thirsty and can't have any water until tomorrow. =( He still is pretty immobile and has lots of drain tubes coming from everywhere. The pain meds are working at keeping him comfortable, but since he just got off the breathing tube, they don't...

Jeff finished his second surgery last night/this morning at 1 am (after 17 hours). The good news is that he is doing well. He has a lot of swelling from being in a face down position for so long, but they are keeping him intibateed (a breathing tube) and sedated until tomorrow. There was a little problem with some bleeding, but our prayers were heard and the doctors' hands were guided to correct it quickly. The bad news is that he will have to have one more "minor" (3 hour) surgery later in the week to do the bone graft....
