Clear Channel has announced the host of the morning show on Rush Radio 1200 to be Jeff Katz. It seems like CC actually put some thought into this one. He has been on the air in Boston before on WRKO and he has had many other major market gigs (KNEW in San Francisco and WPHT in Philadelphia) and has most recently been on WFTL in Ft. Lauderdale and, before that, WBT.

It’s starting to look like the baptism/murder scene from “The Godfather” at Greater Media Inc. In December the company terminated outspoken, highly-visible WBT-AM/Charlotte afternoon drive host Jeff Katz for undisclosed reasons. This past Thursday, Greater Media hit WTKK-FM/Boston afternoon driver Jay Severin with an unpaid, open-ended suspension for anti-Hispanic remarks – including recent comments tying the spread of Swine Flu to illegal immigrants from Mexico. A suspension without pay is often a kiss on the cheek on the way to termination. If Severin does return to the job, it can’t possibly be the same anything-goes show. Are these moves somehow...

Jeff Katz, whose conservative zeal and verbal swordsmanship have been a mainstay of afternoon drive time for two years, was fired Monday by WBT-AM (1110). Rick Jackson, WBT general manager, said he could not discuss the reason. Katz will be replaced in the 3 to 6 p.m. spot beginning next week by Tara Servatius, a Creative Loafing columnist who has been in the station's 9 p.m. to midnight slot since May 2007 and has occasionally filled in for Katz in afternoons.
