A U.S. Army Special Forces sergeant from Keller was killed Sunday in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, Defense Department officials reported Monday. Staff Sgt. Alex Anthony Viola, 29, was fatally wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated, according to a news release. “This was Viola’s first deployment during his military career,” according to a news release from the U.S. Army Special Forces Command at Fort Bragg, N.C. An air strike in southern Somalia has killed two senior commanders of the militant Islamist group, al-Shabab, residents have told the BBC. The strike destroyed the vehicle the militants were travelling in between the towns of Jilib and Barawe, seen as a major base of al-Shabab, they said. An 18-year-old Georgia man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for fatally shooting a baby riding in a stroller during a robbery attempt at a seaside town, a judge ruled Thursday.
