DALLAS -- It would be hard to find a nastier piece of political work than Nancy Pelosi, the shrieking Democratic leader in the U.S. House of Representatives. Which is saying something considering failed Chappaquiddick lifeguard Teddy Kennedy is still haunting the halls of Washington preaching high morality to one and all.

If as it appears Bush will nominate a moderate named Edith Clement to the Court, will the Right bolt from the GOP in next years midterms? Bush, someone I have been a big fan of, is turning out to be a heck of a disappoinment. He hasn't controlled the borders and apparently only used the promise to appoint "strict constructionists" as a cynical ploy to get re-elected. Bush, like his father before him, is proving to be a huge demoralizer for the Right.

Rush Limbaugh sounds off on controversy as many urge boycotts, firing of president An apology by PepsiCo's president who likened the United States to a middle finger is apparently doing little to calm outrage caused by her remarks. In the wake of WorldNetDaily's coverage of Indra Nooyi's commencement speech to graduates at Columbia Business School in which she compared the U.S. to the middle finger with both positive and negative connotations, consumers are vowing to boycott the company, and the topic is being widely discussed on talk radio.

Thousands of commercial hunters armed with clubs, rifles and spears moved on to the ice floes off eastern Canada today to kill more than 300,0000 baby seals for their pelts over the next few weeks. The spring hunt, which began yesterday, is expected to bring the area's coastal communities some £8.5m, but has been condemned by animal rights activists as barbaric. This year's hunt is the third large-scale cull since the Canadian government decided in 2003 to allow almost a million seals to be culled over three years. Article continues The move dismayed the anti-seal hunting movement, which has been...

TRENTON - Muslims and Christians both say they will skip a meeting with state officials aimed at calming tensions between the two sides. The state Division of Criminal Justice's Office of Bias Crimes and Community Relations had scheduled a meeting for Monday. A rift between Coptic Christians and Muslims arose following the murder of the Armanious family, Coptic Christians who were tied up and stabbed in their Jersey City home. Although two non-Muslims -one an acquaintance of the victims - were later charged, authorities at first investigated the possibility that religious tensions might lie behind the crimes. "We want to...

SEMINOLE, Fla. - A man was arrested after trying to steal a weapon from a gun shop so he could "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo," authorities said.Michael W. Mitchell, of Rockford, Ill., entered Randall's Firearms Inc. in Seminole just before 6 p.m. Thursday with a box cutter and tried to steal a gun, said Marianne Pasha, a spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. Mitchell, 50, told deputies he wanted to "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo" after he visited the Pinellas Park hospice where she lives, Pasha said. The feeding tube that has kept Schiavo alive...

Why Bush's America hates the media Commentary: Also, Time ponders the person of the year By Jon Friedman, CBS.MarketWatch.com Last Update: 12:01 AM ET Nov. 12, 2004 NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- If nothing else, President Bush's re-election underscores his supporters' profound hatred for anything that smacks of liberalism -- especially the non-Fox News media. Take it from me. I know. On Nov. 5, I wrote in this space that American pop-culture mavens could've easily recognized which way the political wind was blowing. I noted that "The Passion of the Christ" dwarfed the anti-Bush film "Fahrenheit 9/11" at the box office....

There is a remote possibility you may hear something about The Passion of the Christ over the next few days. Yours truly would like to add a small point about scripture and a large point about theology. The small point is that Mel Gibson's movie depicts Jesus as horrifically brutalized before his crucifixion, and though it is possible events happened this way, according to scripture it is far from certain. All four Gospels report that Pilate ordered Jesus "flogged" or "scourged" before sending him to the cross. But that's all the Gospels say: There is no description in any of...

FEEL GOOD LEGISLATION MARK A SITY 12/31/02 The lead 12/29/02 Editorial by the Milwaukee J/S Editorial Staff was grossly miss-titled. It read "Tough drunken driving laws", while advocating anything but. What it advocated was feel good legislation that would only create more "drunk" drivers by lowering the blood alcohol level (BAL) needed to be considered "drunk". I can think of no case where an innocent person was killed as a result of a couple splitting a bottle of wine over dinner. However, under a .08 rule this couple will be just as guilty as a driver who can barely walk....
  • Case of Whidbey Island 'terrorists' is a dud, FBI says

A national cable TV news flash yesterday about the arrest of possible terrorists on Whidbey Island sounded explosive: The FBI and other federal agents were investigating two Middle Eastern men who were arrested in Oak Harbor last Tuesday after police found traces of TNT and plastic explosive in a rental truck they were driving, the Fox News Channel reported. The fact that Oak Harbor is near Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, home of the electronic warfare Prowler jets, heightened concerns. But the FBI said last night it had taken a pass on the case, handing it over to immigration officials...
