New data sets pertaining to the 2020 presidential election contradict former President George W. Bush’s recent attempt to smear the Republican Party as solely comprised of “white Anglo-Saxon Protestantism.” “No, I’d say there’s not going to be a party … And the idea of kind of saying you can only be Republican ‘if,’ then the ultimate extension of that is it ends up being a one-person party,” Bush said on The Dispatch podcast recently. “I know this — that if the Republican Party stands for exclusivity, you know, used to be country clubs, now evidently it’s white Anglo-Saxon Protestantism, then...

A new report from Equis Labs highlighted reasons why Donald Trump’s appeal to Latino voters changed the political landscape in several states and brought the GOP victories in several House races in Texas and Florida. What worries Democrats most is that those victories by Republicans in majority Latino districts came in spite of a massive effort by Democrats to get out the vote among Latino voters. The tactic worked — but not quite the way Democrats hoped.Latino voters with low involvement in politics, many of whom didn’t vote in 2016 at all, shifted toward Trump. Driving the shift was Republican messaging...

In the wake of a pandemic that has devastated Latino communities in California, a new statewide poll finds that Latino voters are more likely to vote to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom than white, Asian and Black voters. The Probolsky Research poll released this week found that 44.5% of Latino voters said they would vote for Newsom to be recalled from office, while 41% said they would vote no. About 14% were undecided. The poll results offer a glimpse of Latino voters’ attitudes toward the Democratic governor amid the coronavirus pandemic. “It really just speaks to the current state of affairs...

Disney has given the green light to reboot the National Treasure movie franchise into a TV series that will star a Hispanic female DREAMer, who will explore “historical authorship and identity.” National Treasure, starring Nicholas Cage, spawned two hit films in 2004 and 2007, and a third film has been long-gestating. But now Disney has taken the concept in a new direction with an upcoming series destined for its streaming service, Disney+, according to Deadline. The new series will feature lead character Jess Morales — a 21-year-old immigrant, ostensibly part of President Barack Obama’s DREAMer program — who will lead...

California Governor Gavin Newsom has completely changed his response to COVID—again—this time leveraging opening the state for all Californians on the backs of low-income Latinos living in the areas with the highest rates of the illness. In the name of “equity,” Newsom announced Thursday that 40% of all the state’s available vaccines will go to Latino communities in the Central Valley and in pockets of LA because Latinos have suffered the most death and illness from COVID. And there’s a catch: Until the Latinos in these areas take the vaccine in higher numbers, California will stay locked down

Looks like Black Lives Matter violence has made the natural progression from rioting, vandalism, and public beatings to attempted assassinations. From the New York Post: Enrique Tarrio told the Gateway Pundit that he was slashed in the stomach, while “multiple other members” were injured, including a man stabbed in the neck and a woman with them stabbed in the back. Enrique Tarrio is chairman of Proud Boys International and Florida state director of Latinos for Trump. The Proud Boys are the anti–Black Lives Matter: race-neutral instead of racist and pro-American instead of anti-American. The group said they were heading home...

Could it be possible that President Trump has one more miracle up his sleeve? At this point, many Democrats are anticipating a Joe Biden landslide on Election Day even though his own campaign manager admits that the “inflated national public polling numbers” should not be trusted. The truth is that both campaigns know that this is going to be a tight race that comes right down to the wire, and there are two key groups of voters that have traditionally been heavily Democratic that could end up swinging the election to Trump. The Biden campaign has been counting on Black...

From an immigration crackdown to the coronavirus pandemic, the first term of President Trump’s administration has had a profound — and often adverse — effect on America’s Hispanic population. And yet, Trump’s support among Latinx voters remains surprisingly strong heading into a pivotal election that pits him against former Vice President Joe Biden. Edward James Olmos, for one, isn’t shocked that the race for voters is competitive within his community. “Latinos are very conservative,” the veteran actor, director and activist tells Yahoo Entertainment during a conversation about his new film, The Devil Has a Name. For the record, the Stand...

In Siler City, where poultry trucks scatter feathers on the roads, Janet Pulido knocked on doors in a heavily Latino mobile home park on a recent autumn weekend, hoping to get out the vote. At Interfood Plaza Latina in Raleigh, Sarahi Gonzalez held a sign in Spanish that read, "Register to vote here. Citizen? Over 18?" The first person the 18-year-old registered to vote that evening? Herself. Across town, during halftime on a patchy grass soccer field — with the Honduran and Salvadoran teams tied — Sandra Amado Gómez and her daughter rushed to register young spectators. They signed up...

Cesar Hernandez says he has made thousands of phone calls since June urging Latinos in the battleground state of Wisconsin to support Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. It's a tough sell, admits Hernandez, especially where he lives on the South Side of Milwaukee, the heart of Wisconsin's Latino community. He said Biden's Spanish-language ads on Hulu and Facebook aren't connecting with the neighborhood's voters, many of whom would prefer a more personal touch. "Latinos have seen almost nothing from Biden here," said Hernandez, 25, who works for the Progressive Turnout Project, a national group working to mobilize Democratic voters. "There...

Sen. Kamala Harris’ motorcade raced past Colombian neighborhoods and made a quick stop for takeout in Doral — or “Doral-zuela” as it’s known locally because of its large Venezuelan population — before speeding through the Cuban stronghold of Hialeah. But during her first trip to Florida as Joe Biden’s running mate last week, Harris did little to court this region’s booming — and politically influential — Latino population. She instead focused on African American leaders waiting at a historically (b)lack university in Miami Gardens. “You truly are the future of our country,” Harris said into a megaphone after the motorcade...

Amid riots, looting and violence in the streets, Goya Foods' CEO says polling showing President Trump's support rising among Latinos is because immigrants arriving in America seeking opportunity don't come to "tear things down, cancel things." A new Hill-HarrisX poll conducted last week found support for Trump among Hispanic voters growing by 2 points, from 30% in the last poll to 32%. After the 2016 election, The Atlantic noticed exit polls analyzed by the Pew Research Center showed that 28% of Latino voters supported Trump, and that figure had risen to 30% support as of February. As Domenico Montanaro put...
