  • Clinton Straight Up Ignored Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed By Victims On Benghazi Attack

In August, the families of Sean Smith and Tyrone Woods, two of the victims in the Benghazi attack, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Hillary Clinton. They alleged that Clinton was “personally liable” in their deaths. They also sued Clinton for defamation, negligence, and for “intentional infliction of emotional distress.” Well, it should come to no one’s surprise that Hillary straight up ignored this lawsuit, with aides refusing to accept the court summons. You can read the lawsuit here. Now, something has to be done on their end to avoid having a judge rule automatically in favor of the families...

For anyone who is harmed or who suffers civil damages, can charges be brought-if any connection can be made-against the Soros Shadow Organizations that are paying these people, or otherwise fomenting violent behavior? Can these organizations be charged as co-defendants as well? If anyone is hurt, be sure to ask your attorney to search for a link between the street thug and Soros. I hope we can network in order to make a business plan. Productive thoughts?

The House and Senate met in joint session yesterday to count the electoral votes in the 2004 presidential election and certify President Bush’s win over John Kerry. Vice President Dick Cheney was presiding in his role as president of the Senate, overseeing as each state’s votes were withdrawn from mahogany boxes and totaled in a ceremony as old as the Constitution itself. The routine tally went by in alphabetical order, state-by-state without event until the session reached Ohio. Joint Session of Congress, Electoral College vote tally, January 6, 2005. • GM not protected from ignition switch claims: U.S. appeals court

In a blow to General Motors Co (GM.N), a federal appeals court on Wednesday reversed part of a bankruptcy court ruling that protected the automaker from some lawsuits over an ignition switch defect that prompted the recall of 2.6 million vehicles in 2014. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said barring plaintiffs from suing the automaker over crashes and lost vehicle value stemming from the faulty switch would violate their constitutional rights to due process, since they had not been notified of the defect prior to GM's 2009 bankruptcy. The ruling effectively rebuffs GM's attempts to shield...
  • Republicans seek to combine North Carolina LGBT lawsuits

North Carolina’s Republican leaders are seeking to combine separate lawsuits over a state law limiting protections for the LGBT community — moves that could help steer the cases to a judge who twice ruled against the federal government in recent years. Three federal judges are currently assigned to five dueling lawsuits over the law, which requires transgender people to use bathrooms corresponding to the sex on their birth certificates in many public buildings. The law also excludes gender identity and sexual orientation from statewide antidiscrimination protections. Senate leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore asked on Monday to combine...

The proposed Jordan Cove liquefied natural gas plant’s environmental impacts are being singled out in a novel lawsuit in which youths are taking on the federal government because of the consequences they say their generation will have to live with as a result of climate change. That lawsuit, which includes young plaintiffs from Colorado, is gaining widespread attention for having cleared an initial legal hurdle earlier this month. A federal magistrate judge rejected motions by the government and industry groups to dismiss the case. According to the ruling by the Oregon judge, Thomas Coffin, the suit essentially alleges that the...

PINSON, Ala. -- At 8 a.m. on a Saturday, the rumble of bulldozers and other earth-moving equipment was already audible in Ardell Turner's modest home in this rural hamlet north of Birmingham. Not far away, they once mined coal. Now state and local leaders are seeking prosperity through one of the nation's largest and priciest road projects. On planners' maps, the Northern Beltline will be a 52-mile, six-lane interstate that will effectively complete a loop around Birmingham, Alabama's largest city. More than a half-century after the Beltline's conception, work on a small segment began last year within a mile of...

Seven years after the release of shocking images of tortured prisoners in Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, the Supreme Court has turned back the appeal of 26 inmates from that infamous facility who wanted to sue two military contractors for damages. The military's official investigation revealed "numerous incidents of sadistic, blatant, and wanton criminal abuses" committed by military personnel and civilian contractors who provided support services at the prison. More than two dozen soldiers were reprimanded or court-martialed for their conduct. But those who were tortured want to sue two firms that hired the civilians who helped the military with...

Ted Cruz held an unscheduled press conference today, the main purpose of which seems to have been to highlight the fact that the Trump campaign has threatened to sue him over ads his campaign is running in South Carolina, highlighting his pro-choice record. Cruz opened the press conference by reading portions of the letter, and declaring that if Trump filed the lawsuit, he would respond with a motion for sanctions. Take a look:

Because of the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, the Supreme Court will likely be left with just eight justices for the rest of its term—four reliable liberals, three reliable conservatives, and one Anthony Kennedy, who leans to the right but has traditionally acted as the court's swing vote. Since Senate Republicans have already said they are not in any hurry to confirm a new justice so long as President Obama remains in office, we're probably about to witness a number of deeply important cases end in a 4-to-4 split this year. And what happens then? When a Supreme Court case...

A civil trial set to start this month in New York City will test the legal boundaries of hundreds of claims remaining against General Motors Co. stemming from faulty ignition switches. The case involves an Oklahoma man who blames a defective ignition switch for preventing his air bags from deploying during a crash. It's the first trial to result from hundreds of lawsuits filed against GM after the auto giant revealed in 2014 that faulty ignition switches in Chevy Cobalts and other small cars necessitated an unprecedented recall. The switches can slip out of the "on" position, causing the cars...
  • Rental car toll fees stir backlash that threatens Florida’s image

TALLAHASSEE Visitors to Florida who rent cars are being shocked by toll charges long after they get home, and enough are complaining that legislators say it could damage the state’s tourist-friendly image. In Florida, a tourist climbs behind the wheel of a rental car and enters a world of 600 miles of toll roads, more than any other state. As cash toll booths are steadily giving way to cashless, all-electronic tolling, car renters are being hit with service fees of $4 to $15 a day on top of unpaid toll charges. The rental car industry calls it a convenience as...

The Obama administration has almost inarguably executed more unilateral sweeping power grabs than any previous presidency ever. Administration defenders lamely point to the number of Executive Orders issued: "GOP Slams 'Imperial' Obama After Fewest Executive Orders In 100 Years (CHART)." Which is technically true - but totally irrelevant. A minor point: Not every single Executive Order grabs additional unilateral power (though many do). A major point: What matters most is total Grabs-by-Regulations - not specifically Executive Orders. New regs issued by the multitudinous Executive Branch departments, agencies, commissions and boards - that exceed the power granted them by Congressional legislation....
  • GM could face punitive damage claims in switch litigation

NEW YORK: A U.S. judge on Monday said that General Motors Co may be liable for punitive damages in lawsuits it faces over an ignition switch problem that prompted the recall of millions of vehicles last year. The decision from U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Gerber in Manhattan could increase GM's financial exposure to claims for injuries, deaths or loss of vehicle value stemming from the 2014 recall. Unlike compensatory damages, which are meant to make up for plaintiffs' losses, punitive damages are designed to punish defendants for egregious or negligent conduct, and to deter future misbehavior. Gerber said, however, post-bankruptcy...

Friday, October 23, 2015 Akin: Illinois ranks high for creating lawsuits, not jobs By Travis Akin - The University of Illinois football team is struggling once again this year, mired at the bottom of the Big Ten and near the bottom of numerous national rankings. Similarly, the State of Illinois is stuck near the bottom of another set of rankings, only these rankings reflect not just lost games but lost jobs and thus are important to every person living in Illinois. These important but depressing rankings come from a new national study that confirms Illinois’ status as a lawsuit haven,...

So why are Republicans sponsoring this? Under consideration in Washington, D.C. is legislation that will fundamentally transform our patent system. It will render this Constitutionally protected intellectual property product – dramatically less protected. The bills to which I refer are the Innovation Act (House) and the Patent Act (Senate)…. These “reformers” are…considering another really, REALLY TERRIBLE idea. That sets the stage for near-limitless government-caused damage to not just patents – but the entire private economy….They want to “pierce the corporate veil.” “(A) legal decision to treat the rights or duties of a corporation as the rights or liabilities of its...

If a person driving drunk in a Honda kills a pedestrian, why can't the victim's family sue Honda? After all, Honda was responsible for giving the car to the driver. Cars can be used for many good ends, but they can also be used to kill. And yet we never see car manufacturers sued this way, the same way gun manufacturers and gun sellers are:

If the Boy Scouts of America approve gay adult leaders, as they are expected to do late Monday (July 27), does that mean troops based at churches may end up in court if they ban gay Scoutmasters? Scout officials predicted that would be “unlikely” in a document they released earlier this month to BSA members and leaders. “We live in a litigious society, and frivolous lawsuits are threatened and filed every day,” reads the 14-page memo from the Boys Scouts’ law firm, Hughes Hubbard & Reed. “However, any lawsuit challenging the religious requirements in a Scouting unit chartered by a...

Nine graffiti artists who spray painted creations across the world-renowned 5Pointz building filed a lawsuit Friday in Brooklyn federal court, seeking unspecified damages from the owner who whitewashed away their artwork. [Snip] The aerosol artists say they are owed substantial cash damages because Wolkoff painted over their al fresco works. [Snip] The iconic buildings had more than 350 works of visual art on the walls — inside and out — when Wolkoff destroyed them, the lawsuit said. The colorful, eye-catching creations were torn down for good last summer.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Pot divides the real estate industry -- Colorado may have legalized recreational marijuana, but not all landlords are on board with pot on their property. According to Dan Slover, a broker at Cedar Creek Property Management, it comes down to landowner preference whether or not they will allow the possession, consumption, and production of marijuana in their rentals.
