By Emily Zanotti | 2:12 pm, February 27, 2017 The Dakota Access Pipeline protesters left more behind than just piles of trash when they were booted from their makeshift camp: they left several dogs and puppies to fend for themselves, abandoned with the rest of their unwanted belongings. Furry Friends Rockin Rescue, a local animal rescue near Bismark, North Dakota, says they’re working to catch all of the abandoned animals, and so far, they’ve managed to rescue two dogs and six puppies. They believe, however, that the dogs represent only a small fraction of the pets left behind at the...

Although the chaos in Baltimore has seemingly come to an end, the damage is done. Buildings are in shambles, and owners have to rebuild their businesses with nothing left of their livelihood except some garbage and burnt pieces of plastic. There are so many heartbreaking stories of individuals affected by the riots, but this one takes the cake. This mom is trying to figure out what steps to take after the “peaceful protestors” destroyed her severely disabled son’s medical equipment, leaving him with nothing. According to the Washington Post, Laporsha Lawson grabbed her disabled son Khai’Lee Sampson and fled to...

If anyone needs an example of how big government literally kills people they need go no further than HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius's refusal to waive a federal regulation (or rather a ban) on lung transplants for children under 10, even though doctors say this particular 10 year old would survive the procedure. The answer she gave is particularly galling...“I would suggest, sir, that, again, this is an incredibly agonizing situation where someone lives and someone dies...”We should expect nothing less from the party of moral bankruptcy. Whether or not her hands are truly tied is not the point, the regulation...

  • Why are libraries homeless shelters?

A homeless man was arrested this week at the downtown Central Library after allegedly masturbating in a back aisle and then pulling a knife on a librarian who was trying to escort him out of the building. A security guard used a Taser on the man, who was arrested by police and charged with multiple offenses, from lascivious conduct to aggravated battery. No one, luckily, was injured or killed in the incident. But it's an ugly reminder of a community problem hidden in plain sight. On any given day, you'll find a group of homeless regulars at the Central Library,...

Political road rage Wednesday, March 9, 2005 The woman escaped by hiding in this park. A woman became a road rage victim Tuesday not because of the way she drove, but because of how she voted in the last presidential election. It happened in Tampa and the entire drama was recorded during a 911 call. Officers say Nathan Winkler, 31, saw a Bush-Cheney bumper sticker on Michelle Fernandez's car and showed her a sign of his own. "He drove up next to me, with his, he has a sign hanging from his windshield, passenger window that says something about the...

A National Public Radio (NPR) reporter has resigned after a hateful voice mail message she left for a conservative group was made public. Rachel Buchman worked for WHYY in Philadelphia, an NPR affiliate, when she called the offices of the Web site laptoplobbyist.com to express her outrage over an e-mail the group sent to her opposing special rights for homosexuals. "You're evil, horrible people. You're awful people," she said, identifying herself only as "Rachel." "You represent horrible ideas. God hates you and He wants to kill your children. You should all burn." Chris Carmouche, publisher of laptoplobbyist.com, said he's accustomed...
