Yet another of Clear Channel’s Liberal Talk stations is dropping the format. “AM 760″ KKZN Thornton/Denver is next in line to shift to another Talk variation following similar moves in recent months at sister stations in Portland and Los Angeles. Morning host Gloria Neal posted on Facebook that she had been fired as the station would be changing formats. With Randi Rhodes ending her syndicated show next week the station is losing two of its shows. Greg Foster, VP/Programming for Clear Channel Denver confirmed to the Denver Post that Neal was let go. “I can confirm that Gloria Neal’s show...

(Columbus OH) It was announced on WVKO-AM this morning, that as of midnight tomorrow, the format on WVKO-AM will be changing. The LMA for the station will ending at that time and the station won't be Progressive Talk anymore. Thanks to Gary Richards for bringing back the format to Columbus radio for one more go around. That said, Mr. Richards said last year he wanted to buy the station outright so this is a disappointment to me. My guess is the new lease holders will take the station to a Urban Gospel format. Just a guess on my part.

Another progressive talker falls victim to the rightwing corporate stranglehold of our public airwaves... The Peter B. Collins Show will come to an end, as of next Friday, according to an announcement by Collins on today's broadcast. After nearly five years on the air, the economic climate, and the stranglehold of rightwing corporate control over the public's airwaves has made it impossible for him to continue.(snip) ...heartbreaking, but hardly surprising in today's climate for nearly everyone but the vast majority of rightwing whackjob radio hosts propped up by rightwing corporate interests. Here is video from last night's Larry King Live where Larry talked to a roundtable of political pundits about Rush Limbaugh and other issues. Liberal talk radio host Stephanie Miller at one point said she thought the comments of Rush Limbaugh wanting Obama to fail are treasonous and that he should be executed! Now, I think she said it somewhat in jest, but just imagine how Larry King would have reacted had a conservative said that about anyone on the Left. Larry King said not a word to Miller about her comment. See for yourself - she makes the comment...

Apparently, Obamas presidency will outlive WWRC-AMs Obama 1260. Red Zebra Broadcasting is pulling the plug on the liberal talk format, featuring Stephanie Miller, Lionel, and Rachel Maddow, and go alll-business news starting next week. WWRC PD Greg Tantum tells the Washington Post the reason is the ratings collapsed to a level that could not be measured after the election. The lone survivor of Obama 1260 will be liberal talker Ed Schultz, who will move to Red Zebra conservative talk sister-station WTNT-AM (570). Deep-pocketed political donor Rob Glaser undertook his biggest-ever political investment in 2004 when he handed over $10 million to prop up lefty talk-show network Air America Radio, giving him 36.7 percent ownership. But while the founder and CEO of Seattle-based RealNetworks Inc. successfully helped fund the 2006 Democratic revolt in Congress, he has been bloodied attempting a similar revolution in progressive talk radio. As crucial midterm congressional elections approach, can America's "progressive" leaders really afford to let an ailing liberal talk radio network die? Apparently, the answer to the first question is yes, to the second, no, the Radio Equalizer has learned. Remember push polls? Emerging just before elections, they pretend to desire the opinions of voters. Then, to those foolish enough to remain on the telephone, they proceed to shove political propaganda right down unsuspecting throats. In a variation, Al Franken has introduced the art of "push interviews", where in theory he's there to be asked questions. Like a lingering, nasty winter cold, Willie Brown is one politician the Golden State just can't seem to shake. To remove the notorious former California State Assembly speaker from power, it took a constitutional rewrite that imposed legislative term limits. And after Democrats lost control of the chamber to the GOP in 1995, voters were dumbfounded when Brown outfoxed them, manipulating two Republican surrogates Manchurian-style to retain power. When those limits finally prevented Willie from any additional time in Sacramento, he promptly ran for mayor of San Francisco, serving two terms from 1996 to 2004. Even as many Californians saw...

What is it about Michelle Malkin that so quickly works liberals into a frenzied state? All it takes is a television appearance, published column or radio interview to enrage so-called "progressives". Why, reserved for her, these particular heapings of vitriol? Certainly, ethnicity and gender must play a role, as liberal anti-Malkin hate closely resembles that of serial Condi-bashers. Our extensive coverage of Air America's scandal has actually been good for the radio network, some liberals assert. After all, any publicity is good publicity, right? William J. Bennett When it involves sleazy transfers of tax dollars to the liberal network from an inner-city community center, the Radio Equalizer does not agree. And, when the mainstream media refuse to expose dishonest and hypocritical behavior surrounding these allegations, they must be brought to light. What about Bill Bennett's case, then? His recent comments, while poorly worded and insensitive, have been grossly taken out of context, in what was really a discussion...

Could Air America's radio hosts possibly be in a stickier situation? While they rail endlessly against Bush and "corporate America", more damning revelations are uncovered almost daily about their own company's sleazy actions. Yet the network's personalities continue to pretend nothing is happening. Compounding the on-air dishonesty: fiery public speeches filled with especially ironic ethical allegations. Don't they feel guilty, knowing their own hands are unclean in the integrity category?

In what appears just short of outright panhandling, a desperate Air America Radio is now begging listeners for cash donations. From a mass email pitch sent Wednesday afternoon, Air America supporters were taken to a webpage where a direct solicitation is made. Resembling an online PBS or NPR pledge drive, the site offered paltry "benefits" for cash "gifts" to the liberal talk network. Is Air America unintentionally a not-for-profit enterprise?

It may not be as big as Tropical Storm Ophelia, now reaching the Bay State, but surely there must be some reason for the Beantown Air America scandal coverage blackout. There sure was plenty of room for fawning profiles of liberal talk personalities over the last year in the Boston Globe and weekly Phoenix. Why isn't the diversion of taxpayer funds from a Boys & Girls Club to the liberal network's coffers now equally interesting? After all, there are two Air America stations in the Boston area, while several personalities and network executives have Massachusetts ties. We hear Al Franken...

Jay Severin's luck may have finally run out in Boston. After years of questions about the WTKK-FM talk host's wild boasts and other deceptive behavior, the Boston Globe's Scot Lehigh examined his most outrageous: Severin's claim to be a Pulitzer Prize winner. The result was a devastating piece that should shatter sleazy Severin's talk radio future. His academic background, place of residence, even his real name, have all apparently been faked. And the timing couldn't be worse for the self-described "libertarian/libertine" host, more on that in a moment. The Radio Equalizer raised other questions about Severin's claims in this July...

Liberal Seattle news-talk station KIRO and conservative sister KTTH-AM finally have the word from the National Labor Relations Board: they're no longer working in a union shop. And it all came down to one disputed ballot, cast by syndicated talk show host Michael Medved. After a contentious battle led by overnight KIRO talk host Lou Pate, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) was decertified at KIRO and KTTH. Making the fight especially weird: another one of KIRO's evening talk hosts, left-wing extremist Mike Webb, loudly supported the anti-union campaign. Meanwhile, a few conservatives in the building at...
  • Explain This, Mr. Franken! Editorial Takes Air America Host To Task

As expected, the mainstream media somewhat ignored our "gotcha", where Al Franken was essentially caught lying about his knowledge of Air America's Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club scandal. That's where $875,000 in taxpayer funds were apparenetly diverted to the liberal radio network's coffers. Today, a Washington Times editorial takes Franken to task over his recent antics. Franken claimed on his show he'd only heard about the scandal in early August, but Michelle Malkin and I produced a document which proved he knew about the whole mess at least as far back as November, 2004.

Al Franken, explain this one Published September 11, 2005 Al Franken appears to be caught in a fib -- a "lying lie," he might call it -- about Air America's loans-from-children scandal. To his employers' credit, Air America is seeking to put the scandal behind it: On Thursday, the network wired the remaining $825,000 it "borrowed" from the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club in the Bronx to the club's lawyers. Air America's parent company, Piquant LLC, had initially denied responsibility for the total of $875,000 in questionable transfers, claiming a previous owner was liable. But the negative publicity from...

How would you defend liberal talk host Al Franken's lies if your company's future was at stake? After weeks of ignoring our Air America Radio scandal coverage, they're increasingly reactive to news developments. While the company refuses to respond to Michelle Malkin and myself directly, they're talking to others who publish follow-ups and news summaries. Their key tactic: outright issue deflection. Not only that, but there are serious questions today about Air America's new public relations push on the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club repayment issue, where $875,000 in taxpayer funds were apparently diverted to the liberal talk radio...

Have some extra money? Air America scandal apologist Bill Press seems to be having trouble raising $2 million needed for his stalled syndicated talk show. Perhaps you can help. Is the former CNN "Crossfire" host and California Democratic Party chairman willing to take it from just about anybody? So far, he's raised just a quarter of the necessary amount, with funding from dubious sources. No wonder he was so quick to defend Air America in the midst of its sleazy scandal, it must have seemed a minor issue to the longtime Democrat operative....

Is Air America host Randi Rhodes having a hard time containing her frustration with the network? After the Radio Equalizer's piece featuring a Rhodes memo demanding a private jet to accommodate her Texas travel needs, a number of people pointed out her increasing on-air irritation with the company. I've been wondering just how long Air America's hosts could keep up the facade of peace and harmony. At what point do the floodgates open? Reaction was swift to the release of Rhodes's memo, where conservatives such as Captain Ed blasted their lack of concern over $875,000 in diverted taxpayer funds, which...

Remember Kevin Nealon's classic Saturday Night Live "Mr. Subliminal" character? He could slip a critical point into the smallest spaces, creating some of the show's funniest moments. After a detailed analysis of Al Franken's recent public Air America scandal comments, it's clear he may owe Nealon one, for stealing his act. That's because slipped into Franken's rambling set of excuses over why he and Air America are not responsible for $875,000 in taxpayer funds, diverted from a Bronx-based community center, a key admission is made. Take a look at this snippet, with a full Radio Equalizer-produced transcript below, (bold emphasis...
