A Mckinney ISD parent is calling a new logo symbolizing the district's preschool program a form of racism. The logo depicts a fair-skinned child doing a cartwheel in front of the earth. But Leslie Moore, a McKinney teacher whose child is in the preschool program, took exception. "It sends the wrong message," Moore said. "It's telling me that every other ethnic race other than Caucasian is inferior to the Caucasian race." Moore sent an e-mail to preschool director Kristina Perez, who wrote back, "The intention was never to make any ethnicity feel left out." Perez also wrote, "T-shirts are already...

Texas Tech will hold more focus groups and talk to more alumni before moving forward on planned changes to the school seal, regents decided Thursday. The system Board of Regents took no formal action endorsing the delay and expressed support for the program, but board Chairman Rick Francis and Regent Windy Sitton told marketing administrators to slow down a major re-branding campaign. (snip) "I feel that when more Tech family has had the opportunity to view this, it will clear up a lot of misinformation that is out there; it will clear up a lot of rumors that are out...

Waffle House, that "We never close" bastion of solid culinary fare where hash browns are a tour de force and people can still get called "honey," can claim a new accolade: America's cup winner. A few months ago, the Norcross-based chain of 1,500 eateries switched from the plain white coffee cups it had used for years to a heavy ceramic mug emblazoned with a "Waffle House Coffee" logo. Ever since, store managers have been fending off customers clamoring to buy one or more. It's only gotten worse as people seek unique gifts during the Christmas season. Some of the mugs...

UCC: "CBS, NBC refuse to air church's television advertisement" December 1, 2004 - According to a UCC press release, CBS and NBC have refused to air the new UCC television advertisement... and predictably, UCC leaders are going nuts. According to the release, CBS offered this explanation: "Because this commercial touches on the exclusion of gay couples and other minority groups by other individuals and organizations," reads an explanation from CBS, "and the fact the Executive Branch has recently proposed a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, this spot is unacceptable for broadcast...

California College Republicans Chairman Michael P. Davidson issued the following statement on the use of the draft by MTV’s Rock the Vote and the KerryCampaign as a scare tactic this election year: "MTV and the Kerry campaign's use of the draft to scare young voters into voting is pathetic and disgusting. "While our servicemen are fighting for our country and the freedom of millions, military service should not be used as an instrument of fear. Military service is one of the most honorable deeds and any suggestion otherwise is grossly insulting. "In this campaign, there is only one person that...

  • Kerry Campaign Logo and Viet Cong Flag (Vanity?)

Driving into work this morning I was stuck for several minutes (a long stoplight) behind a brand new Jag with a Kerry bumper sticker on it. The longer I stared at the bumper sticker, the more I thought it resembled (or at least was suggestive of) the Viet Cong flag. I present the evidence to a candid audience for review and commentary. Or maybe I'm just letting my imagination get the better of me out of spite and disgust for having had to stare at the bumper sticker for several minutes - and on a Jag, to boot.

This is a nice website banner to help show support for President Bush while also getting the word out for an awesome book that's coming out next month. I don't know about you, but I'm going to put this up on my site and hopefully we can make that book #1 on Amazon when it comes out. Liberals lurking on Free Republic be warned -- turn away your shifty eyes now or risk learning something... P.S. THE W hotel chain is aggres sively laying claim to the letter W, no matter what President Bush's nickname is. The group behind the chain, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., has fired off legal let ters to two political merchandisers, de manding they re move the letter W — as in George W. Bush — from "apparel and accessories" they are selling. The of fending items include baseball hats and T-shirts "that mimic the trade dress of the W hotels, which has the effect of eroding the unique brand identity developed in the W logo."

A Home for a Gay Channel By BILL CARTER Published: May 30, 2004 EXECUTIVES of MTV Networks seemed to be caught a bit off guard by the hostile reaction to their announcement last week that they intend to create the first cable entertainment channel devoted to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender viewers, called Logo. Religious groups, including the Traditional Values Coalition, denounced the idea as amounting to "moral anarchy" and promised to organize a boycott of companies that advertise on the channel. The logo - showing an athlete running to victory against a red backdrop - was revealed in a spectacular ceremony attended by 2,008 of China's national Government and regional officials. Wang Qishan, a Beijing Communist Party chief, and Hein Verbruggen of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) drew a stamp from the last of a number of boxes and impressed the design on paper.        Sexist '60s Symbol Hot With Teen Girls It's retro, but also cool. It's sexist and exploitative, but also sexy and alluring. It's the Playboy bunny logo--arguably one of the world's most recognizable corporate icons--and it's now the hottest new trend for teenage girls. The 16-and-under crowd can't get enough of it. They paw through the racks and shelves at Gadzooks, Hot Topic, Wet Seal, and Spencer Gifts to find T-shirts, shorts, earrings, necklaces, and flip-flops emblazoned with the Playboy bunny. Huh? What's going on here? According to one highly placed source--that would be a real, live 16-year-old girl...
