In response to this weekend’s slaying of two police officers in Hattiesburg, Miss., U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch issued a statement expressing grief over their loss and reassuring law enforcement nationwide that the Department of Justice “stands in solidarity” with them. Officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate were shot and killed during a routine traffic stop late Saturday night. Marvin Banks and Joanie Calloway were charged with two counts of capital murder. Two others were arrested and charged over the weekend in relation to the shooting: Curtis Banks for being “accessory after the fact” and Cornelius Clark for obstruction of

As the number of shootings and homicides has surged in Baltimore, some police officers say they feel hesitant on the job under intense public scrutiny and in the wake of criminal charges against six officers in the Freddie Gray case.State's Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby's decision last week to charge the officers has stoked strong opinions across the country — including praise from those who want accountability and derision from some legal experts. But perhaps the most jarring effect has been on the Baltimore Police Department. "In 29 years, I've gone through some bad times, but I've never seen it this...

(You will hear and obey me) Baltimore will soon be the first national police force that Obama promised and Al Sharpton has been promoting. (I’m waiting for the IRS to announce they made a mistake and instead of owing taxes, Sharpton has a 20 million dollar refund coming) For a while it looked like Ferguson would hold this distinction after Eric “Fast and Furious” Holder announced that the police force there was racist, but they weren’t willing to roll over. Obama will force it on them eventually, but Baltimore will be the first. The mayor of Baltimore, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has...

Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch has decided to launch a federal investigation into whether the Baltimore Police Department has engaged in a “pattern or practice” of excessive force. Lynch’s announcement about the Justice Department’s probe — the latest in a string of municipalities that are being investigated by the federal government for civil rights violations — could come as early as Friday, according to two law enforcement officials. A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment Thursday night. Lynch hinted Thursday that a decision could come soon, when she testified during her first hearing on Capitol Hill as attorney general. She...

Attorney General Loretta Lynch pledged Tuesday to improve the city's police department after meeting with the family of a man who was fatally injured in police custody. "We're here to hold your hands and provide support," Lynch said in a meeting with faith and community leaders, including members of Congress. The new attorney general met privately at the University of Baltimore with Freddie Gray's family, days after the state's attorney charged six police officers involved in Gray's arrest. Gray's injury in police custody and death a week later sparked protests and riots that prompted Maryland's governor to bring in the...

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Thursday that his absence during last week’s confirmation of Attorney General Loretta Lynch was the same as voting against her. “There was no significance to the final vote, and I had a scheduling conflict,” Cruz said, according to media reports. “Under the Senate rules, absence is the equivalent of a no vote,” the 2016 GOP presidential candidate added. “It is identical procedurally.” Senators confirmed Lynch as the nation’s new attorney general on April 23 in a 56-43 vote. Cruz, a notable opponent of her nomination, said Thursday he abstained because a majority of Republicans had...

State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby said Friday she has probable cause to file criminal charges in the much publicized death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray who died while in police custody. Six officers, including a lieutenant and a sergeant, have been suspended after the incident. Gray suffered a spinal injury and died after riding in a police transport van that made several stops. On Thursday, Baltimore’s police officials said they turned over their initial report to prosecutors — a day earlier than expected.

BALTIMORE – People in Baltimore and other cities accuse police of sometimes giving prisoners an extra-rough "nickel ride" — a reference to amusement rides that once cost a nickel. Now, the safety of people in Baltimore's police vans is under scrutiny because of a past death and a new fatal injury, one that came after police failed to put a seat belt on a passenger. One of those, Dondi Johnson, died of a fractured spine in 2005 two weeks after he was arrested for urinating in a public street and transported by van. Johnson's family won a $7.4 million judgment...

For a Republican who once called himself a "head-banging conservative," Jeb Bush has said some surprisingly nice things about President Obama lately.. He endorsed Obama's proposed trade deal with Asia. He praised Obama's tough policies on terrorism, including the National Security Agency's collection of bulk data. He called on balky Republicans in Congress to confirm Obama's new attorney general, Loretta Lynch. He even applauded Obama for tightening sanctions on Iran, although he also criticized the president for making concessions in nuclear negotiations. "I'm not a big Obama fan, but when he does something right, we need to give him credit,"...

Rawlings-Blake says she's thinking 'long and hard' about whether to run for U.S. Senate By Yvonne Wenger The Baltimore Sun As she weighs a decision to run for U.S. Senate, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said Wednesday she’s considering whether she can serve Baltimore better in her current job or in Congress. Rawlings-Blake, who is in her first full term, declined to say how soon she would decide whether to run for the seat that will be vacated by longtime Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski. Mikulski announced this week that she will retire at the end of her term after nearly half a...

Loretta Lynch is all smiles today as the rioters in Baltimore resort to injuring cops..

As I look out over all of you gathered here today, my overwhelming reaction is one of profound gratitude. I must, of course, thank the President for his faith in me in asking me to lead the department that I love to even greater heights. Thank you, Mr. Vice President, for your presence and your comments here today, and for your steadfast support and wise counsel throughout the process. I also must thank Senators Schumer and Leahy for their support, over the years and now, and for making the floor of the U.S. Senate a welcoming place for me and...

Voting to confirm an attorney general who won’t uphold the Constitution isn’t a way to inspire confidence among conservatives.Hillary Clinton didn’t have such a bad week after all. Sure, she’s reeling from the latest unseemly revelations about the Clinton Foundation family piggy bank. But they’re only marginally worse than earlier unseemly revelations about the Clinton Foundation. They are roughly on par with the revelations about how Mrs. Clinton obstructed Congress’s Benghazi investigations by purging her unlawful private e-mail system, which was worse than her obstruction of the State Department’s Benghazi investigation. Yet it may not have been as bad as...

The answer to this disappointing outcome? Keep fighting, keep demanding the right votes, the proper vision, the full respect for the Constitution. A New Media has arisen to ensure just that. Yes, the Republican US Senate majority just confirmed the racist, gun-grabbing Loretta Lynch. Yes, Ted Cruz voted against cloture, then departed from the US Senate to attend another fundraiser. Once again, a little perspective in the face of this setback. More Republicans are voting against the leadership and paying attention to the will of the voters. Forty-three senators voted against Lynch. Half that number had rejected Holder six years...

The Senate narrowly confirmed Loretta Lynch as the next attorney general today, 166 days after she was first nominated for the post. The Senate approved Lynch’s nomination with a vote of 56 to 43. Stay tuned for updates. UPDATE: The following Senate Republicans voted 'aye' (via TPM): In an unexpected turn, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) voted with the Democratic caucus to confirm Lynch after slow-walking her nomination. The other Republicans who voted for Lynch were Sens. Orrin Hatch (UT), Lindsey Graham (SC), Jeff Flake (AZ), Thad Cochran (MS), Susan Collins (ME), Mark Kirk (IL), Kelly Ayotte (NH), Ron...

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) worked quietly to round up more than 60 votes to end a filibuster of Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch, Republican senators say. After holding up Lynch’s confirmation vote for weeks, McConnell worked to ensure she would overcome a filibuster with a strong bipartisan vote, pitting him against Tea Party firebrand Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and other conservatives. Some GOP senators say McConnell wanted to avoid a battle over the “nuclear option,” the controversial tactic then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) employed in 2013 to reduce the threshold for ending a filibuster of most executive...

Complete Headline: Republican Senate Confirms AG Who Says Illegals Have Right to Work But Partially Born Babies Have No Right to Life A Republican-controlled U.S. Senate voted to confirm an attorney general today who says that illegal aliens have a right to work in the United States but that partially born babies do not have a right to life. The Senate took two votes on the nomination of Loretta Lynch: first, a "cloture" vote to end debate and allow a final vote on confirmation, and, then, the final vote itself. Neither of these votes would have taken place had not...
