DENVER (AP) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has endorsed Tom Tancredo, the American Constitution Party candidate for governor. Palin urged voters Monday to support Tancredo, saying he will fight for lower taxes and smaller government. The 2008 GOP vice-presidential nominee also said Tancredo will start growing the economy.

While Tom Tancredo's campaign thinks the Denver Post is trying to drag John Hickenlooper's carcass over the finish line in the guv race, Tanc has honor rally organizer Glenn Beck in his corner. On his radio show, Beck recently declared that if Tancredo was elected, he might move to Colorado, adding that voting for Big Tom was essentially like voting for him. See progressive yakker Ed Shultz take on these two alleged "Halloweenies" in a clip from his MSNBC program on view below:

COLORADO SPRINGS — A visibly worn Dan Maes urged a group of 25 Tea Party activists to send Republican rainmakers a message by voting Maes for governor, even though it could cost conservatives the election. The small event Monday was one of just two Maes appearances scheduled in the eight days before Election Day as the GOP nominee — hemorrhaging support and among the least-popular candidates in the country — limps toward the finish line. His opponents, Democrat John Hickenlooper and third-party candidate Tom Tancredo, in the meantime are embarked upon cross-state sweeps as the election clock runs out. The...

More polling news from the Tancredo campaign: Another poll has been released and the news just keeps getting better. This time the poll comes from the left-leaning Public Policy Institute Poll and it has us within 3% points of Hickenlooper: 47% to 44% with Maes dropping to an all-time low of 5%. This is within the margin of error — and the sponsor of the poll went on radio and said this race could be a “major upset.” We plan on making those words come true. The other good news is that the momentum is all ours — we are...

Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes' second-biggest campaign expense is . . . Dan Maes and his family. The Evergreen businessman, who sold his credit-reporting company last year and has been running for office full time since March 2009, has been reimbursed $71,658 from his campaign. His daughter Jordan, his executive aide, has been paid $14,101 for work and some expenses, according to a Denver Post analysis. The total is nearly 30 percent of the $304,000 Maes has raised. His top expense is advertising, which totals $113,338. The amount of Dan Maes' expenses, which include mileage, travel, phone, food and drinks...

Colorado Republicans fear their party will become a minor party and lose fundraising advantages in the 2012 presidential election if its candidate for governor, tea party favorite Dan Maes, gets less than 10 percent of the vote on Nov. 2. It's a stunning prospect for a party that has the largest number of registered voters in Colorado and is working hard to elect a Republican U.S. senator and regain at least one U.S. House seat this November. "It probably will happen," said Republican state party chairman Dick Wadhams. "Voters are asking, 'Why would I waste my vote on Maes?'"... Colorado...
  • Maes declines alleged offer, calls Tancredo a “thug”

A supporter for Republican Dan Maes says he talked to two GOP county chairmen and a conservative blogger who said a wealthy donor was willing to pony up money if Maes would drop out of the governor’s race. Joe Harrington of Highlands Ranch said Monday that Maes rejected the offer, which is illegal under Colorado law. If Maes dropped out of the race, political observers believe Tom Tancredo, a former Republican running on a third-party ticket, stands a chance of beating the frontrunner, Democrat John Hickenlooper, for governor. Harrington said the county chairs and the bloggers separately conveyed the offer...

Tom Tancredo has moved within 4 percentage points of John Hickenlooper in the governor’s race, moving the race to “toss up,” according to the latest poll from Rasmussen Reports. Tancredo, who left the Republican Party to run on the American Constitution Party ticket, has 38 percent of the vote to Hickenlooper’s 42 percent. Support for Republican Dan Maes slipped again, and he now stands at 12 percent, Rasmussen reported. Ever since former GOP Congressman Scott McInnis’ candidacy imploded, Hickenlooper, the Democratic nominee and Denver mayor, has been in the lead in the governor’s race. However, he has generally remained in...

If you have not read Nightwister’s post you need to. If the Republicans in Colorado get less than ten percent of the vote in the gubernatorial race, the Colorado GOP will lose its privileged position in Colorado as a major party — a designation that gives it automatic ballot access. This will tremendously impact down ballot races in Colorado long term. At a time when the GOP is set to pick up the Colorado Senate seat, thanks to the stubborn stupidity of Dan Maes and his refusal to get out of the race, the GOP will win the Senate and...

Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes said in a radio interview that he believes Democrat John Hickenlooper would be better for the economic health of the state than third party candidate Tom Tancredo. Maes made the comment on the Cari and Robb Show, a talk radio show “for independent Americans.” “I would say that John absolutely brings that kind of moderate business acumen and business experience that Republicans in Denver proper really like,” said Maes of Hickenlooper. “We’ve seen several major Republican businessmen back John Hickenlooper, so I would absolutely trust the mayor when it comes to the economic health of...

POLL: HICKENLOOPER 43%, TANCREDO 35%, MAES 16%: The Colorado governorÂ’s race is increasingly looking like a contest between Democrat John Hickenlooper and independent Tom Tancredo, according to Rasmussen. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Colorado voters shows Hickenlopper still ahead with 43-percent support, but Tancredo now earns 35 percent of the vote, his best showing so far. Republican candidate Dan Maes trails with 16 percent. One percent like another candidate in the race, and five percent are undecided. The survey of 750 Likely Voters in Colorado was conducted on Oct. 3. TEA PARTY LEADERSHIP ENDORSES TANCREDO: More than...

Some Republicans have fretted that Dan Maes must be supported in order to keep him above 10% and prevent the Republican Party from becoming a "minor party" under state law. These concerns are overblown and would only be an issue until 2014 while redistricting could potentially shut out Republicans until 2020. This is a classic example of winning a battle while losing the war. The most concerning problem that comes with "minor party" status is a quirk in campaign finance law. GOP state candidates can currently collect two checks from donors - one for the general election and another for...

The chairman of the Colorado Republican Party said Wednesday he presented a proposal to GOP gubernatorial nominee Dan Maes that would have removed former GOP Rep. Tom Tancredo — who’s running on a third-party line — from the governor’s race. But despite GOP handwringing over Tancredo’s candidacy, Maes declined the offer. Why? It would have required that Maes also drop out of the race. Chairman Dick Wadhams said he decided to present Maes an offer from Tancredo to leave the race because of his interest in remedying a situation that makes it unlikely the GOP can pick up the open...
