    • Jeb Stuart Magruder, a Watergate conspirator who claimed in later years to have heard President Richard Nixon order the office break-in, has died. He was 79. Magruder, a businessman when he began working for the Republican president, later became a minister, serving in California, Ohio and Kentucky. He also served as a church fundraising consultant. He spent seven months in prison for lying about the involvement of Nixon's re-election committee in the 1972 break-in at Washington's Watergate complex, which eventually led to the president's resignation. In a 2008 interview, Magruder said he had long ago come to peace with...

A figure from the Watergate scandal who now lives in central Ohio was hospitalized today after smashing his sedan into a motorcycle, then a truck on Rt. 315, authorities said. Jeb Stuart Magruder, 72, was in serious condition at Riverside Methodist Hospital tonight, a hospital spokesman said. It's the third time in four years that Magruder, of Victorian Village, has been in trouble in Ohio.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- One of the greatest mysteries of our time is no longer a mystery, NBC 4's Colleen Marshall reported. After 31 years of silence, FBI veteran Mark Felt, 91, who sparked the Watergate scandal, revealed Tuesday he was Deep Throat. Felt secretly gave information to famed reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein about the break-in at the Democratic Headquarters in the Watergate Hotel. High-ranking officials in the Nixon Administration suspected Felt but apparently did not pursue it, fearing more damaging information might be revealed, Marshall reported. "He's always lived with honor. He's a great patriot," said Felt's daughter...

NAACP Chairman Julian Bond said over the weekend that he agreed with political cartoonist Aaron McGruder's characterization of National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice as "a murderer." Appearing with Bond on the television show "America's Black Forum," McGruder, whose cartoon strip "The Boondocks" has portrayed Rice as a spinster who takes out her personal frustrations by launching carpet bombing attacks on Iraq, explained his disdain for the highest ranking woman in U.S. government. "I don't like Condoleezza Rice because she's part of this oil cabal that's now in the White House," McGruder said, as ABF hosts Armstrong Williams and Juan Williams...

Former Nixon aide, discovered by police lying on sidewalk, says charge baseless Grandview police arrested key Watergate figure Jeb Stuart Magruder on Friday and charged him with disorderly conduct — a charge Magruder called "ludicrous" last night. "It’s a baseless claim. . . . It’s ludicrous," Magruder, of Upper Arlington, told The Dispatch. Magruder — who recently made headlines when he said former President Richard M. Nixon ordered the 1972 break-in at the Watergate hotel in Washington — is charged with one fourth-degree misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. He is accused of lying on the sidewalk while drunk in front...

President Richard Nixon personally ordered the "third-rate burglary" at the Watergate Hotel in June 1972, a trusted aide has now revealed, resurrecting the scandal that led to Nixon's political ruin and forced him from the nation's highest office. Jeb Stuart Magruder, who was Nixon's assistant communications director before moving to the re-election committee, said he was privy to a telephone conversation between Nixon and John Mitchell, the campaign chairman, in which the president urged Mitchell to proceed with a break-in at the Democratic National Committee offices in the Watergate. The revelation, if true, places the Watergate burglary in a...
