Russell Crowe doesn't take kindly to anyone bashing one of his favorite movies he once appeared in. The 56-year-old Oscar winner took to Twitter on Saturday to defend his 2003 maritime epic Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World after the English singer–songwriter Ian McNabb took aim at it. Crowe brushed off the complaints as a symptom of 'kids these days,' while plenty of Twitter users rushed to defend the cult-classic film.

A film that came and went in 2003 deserves another viewing if you saw it then and if you missed it you might pick it up for a family viewing. The film “Master and Commander” with Russell Crowe gives new insight into the at-sea culture of 1805 Britain; and sadly, speaks volumes about the degenerated world we occupy in 21st century America. “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World” strikes viewers as an old-fashioned sea saga that few thought Hollywood could still produce. This is not just a war movie but a lesson in leadership, teamwork and character....
  • Elf Number 1 in Box Office (Ed is loved as Santa?)

Ed Asher as Santa sells. I only drop about half a million dollars from last week to another 30+ million dollars. Master and Command is second with about 25 Million. Martix drops big and Love Actually "Rolling Opening" works as it earns more money this week as it opens in more threaters.

MOVIE REVIEW | 'MASTER AND COMMANDER'Master of the Sea (and the French)By A. O. SCOTTPublished: November 14, 2003 O you want to see a guillotine in Piccadilly? Do you want your children to grow up singing the 'Marseillaise'?" This is Jack Aubrey, commander of H.M.S. Surprise, rousing the patriotism of his men as they prepare to engage a faster, larger French vessel somewhere off the coast of South America. This ship is England, he proclaims, and "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World," which opens nationwide today, makes his point with magnificent vigor and precision. This stupendously entertaining movie,...

The great director Billy Wilder was once asked about subtlety in movies. "Of course, there must be subtleties," Wilder said. "Just make sure you make them obvious." The trailer for "Master and Commander," the seafaring epic opening today, can hardly be described as subtle. It is a dazzling montage of dramatic scenes of early 19th-century naval warfare, with cannonballs, bodies, furniture and masts flying all over the place. Nonetheless, my first reaction to a screening of the film was that it was beautiful and brilliant, but I was not sure it would find a mass audience because of its subtlety....

Twentieth Century Fox on Friday will release the first of what it hopes will be a series of movies about a courageous British naval captain named Jack Aubrey. But "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" is just about the opposite of the Hollywood norm for would-be movie franchises.
