10:30 p.m. The mayor of Memphis, Tennessee, says he thinks a statue of Confederate General and Ku Klux Klan leader Nathan Bedford Forrest should be removed from its location at a city park. In a statement emailed to The Associated Press on Wednesday, Mayor A C Wharton Jr. said he would like to see the statue removed from Health Sciences Park. Wharton said the graves of Forrest and his wife, also located at the park, should be relocated as well. Health Sciences Park was called Forrest Park until the City Council voted in February 2013 to change the name. It...

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Shots were fired into Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in the 2000 block of Pendleton Street. Officers were told that one of the church's pastors noticed a bullet hole in the front door of the building. It is unknown when the shots were fired, because no one else was at the church at the time. At this time, investigators say there is nothing indicating that the shooting is connected to the shooting in South Carolina. WMC Action News 5's Jerica Phillips is on the scene now to learn more information.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A billboard in Memphis gives new meaning to the phrase "black lives matter." Big and bold, in red and black, the message stands out to drivers in the Orange Mound neighborhood: "Black lives matter. So let's quit killing each other." Civil rights activist Fred Davis is the man behind the message. He's not new to putting up controversial billboards. Davis' billboard is directly in front of his insurance company. He said he's expanding on the "black lives matter" movement following the deaths of black men across the country. He said it's time black people realize they need...

In the videos you can see dozens of girls punching, kicking, and stomping one another. School resource officers even got into the fray in an attempt to break up the fights, which appeared to have also spilled into classrooms. The first video posted on social media shows the fight happening in the cafeteria. “First, I saw teachers and security scattering over each other,” said 11th grader John Rork. “A couple of girls all over each other. I saw scratches, hair falling out, a lot of hair pulling. This one girl jumped off a table and punched another student in the...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I accept the flowers as a memento of reconciliation between the white and colored races of the Southern states. I accept it more particularly as it comes from a colored lady, for if there is any one on God's earth who loves the ladies I believe it is myself. (Immense applause and laughter.) I came here with the jeers of some white people, who think that I am doing wrong. I believe I can exert some influence, and do much to assist the people in strengthening fraternal relations, and shall do all in my power to elevate...

She died several hours later, at a Memphis hospital, after being flown by medevac helicopter from near the scene of the apparent homicide. Just before her death, Jessica had appeared to be working toward ending abusive relationships and turning her troubled young life around, partly through a 6-8 week stay at an intensive Christian women’s discipleship program at a place called Leah’s...

In recent years, Cleveland police officers have punched a 13-year-old boy who was in handcuffs for shoplifting and shot at an unarmed kidnapping victim who was wearing only his underwear, according to disturbing allegations released Thursday by the Justice Department. The agency's investigation found that officers in Cleveland routinely use unjustifiable force against not only criminals and suspects, but also innocent victims of crimes. The so-called “pattern or practice” report from the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division was released Thursday afternoon as DOJ and the city announced plans to develop a court-enforceable agreement that would impose an independent monitor on...

Some of the teens who were involved a mob-style attack in the parking lot of an east Memphis Kroger last month were shouting “point ‘em out, knock ‘em out,” as they charged the store, according to a witness who testified in court Monday. Dominik Mosby, 17, told a General Sessions judge the shouting began after the group of about 50 kids left Cici’s Pizza and poured into the parking lot at Poplar Plaza, where it looked like a fight was going to break out among them. “Then someone yelled ‘point ‘em out, knock ‘em out,’” Mosby said. “They ran to...

What's happening in America? A race war fought only on one side seems to erupt in its cities every so often, maybe more frequently than we hear about. "Another Teenage Mob Terrorizes Southern Town: ‘Memphis Is Going to Burn if They Don’t Control These Children’" headlines The Blaze, echoing a similar episode of a few weeks ago. As in the UK when paedophiles are Muslim and their victims white, so in the US the mainstream media try to underplay the fact that the gangs and the attackers are black and the victims they choose for their knock-out game, in...
