Six people were killed and two others wounded in a series of random shootings in Michigan Saturday evening, police said. A 14-year-old girl was shot and very seriously injured. Authorities earlier said that she'd died. Jason Brian Dalton, 45, was taken into custody early Sunday and was being questioned over shootings at three different locations in Kalamazoo County, police said.

The next stops for Kasich are the primaries in New England. A virtual restoration of Constitutional carry was introduced to the Michigan legislature in 2015, but to my knowledge, it did not move.  This may have been because a scandal involving an extramarital affair involving the sponsor, Cindy Gamrat. Another case has surfaced where Detroit police officers are charged with falsely arresting a legally armed black man for carrying a concealed weapon.  The man was openly carrying.  In Detroit open carry is completely legal.   The charge is a five year felony in Michigan, so this is no laughing matter.Having worked with a number of police agencies in the early 1970’s and later, and having talked with people inside the police culture of the time in large urban areas, I can report that racism and discrimination against black people in the 70’s was rampant.  A lot has changed...

Police arrested a congressional staffer to Democratic Rep. Sander Levin Oct. 8 following a bizarre altercation where he attacked a lover with a shovel. According to a police report, Tim Foster assaulted a black man described as his boyfriend with a small red and black shovel, leaving the man so badly injured that he was hospitalized with scrapes and bruises across his neck and torso, Roll Call reported Tuesday. A Michigan man employed at the Hillsdale Bob Evans plant was fired after refusing to remove a Confederate flag from his truck, the Hillsdale Daily News reports. According to the man, his bosses at the plant forced him to remove it after receiving a single anonymous complaint. Angela Payne, a spokeswoman for the restaurant chain, told NBC24 that the flag was “offensive to many… customers and employees.” The employee, Wesley Rogers, was told two weeks ago to remove the flag but refused, resulting in his termination. “They said they were doing their best to follow up on a complaint,” Rogers...

The Pentagon has responded to a globally-released ‘Kill List’, asking law enforcement to give extra protection for military personnel whose personal information was released,News Channel 10 reports. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports the Pentagon spent the weekend notifying the soldiers who appeared on the list, and urged city police departments and military police to increase patrol in the neighborhoods where the targeted live. Though Elwood Hansen's rural property had both ample amounts of fireworks and dynamite on it, authorities don't think the explosives had anything to do with what blew up his solidly built, 140-year-old stone house while he was inside. The 79-year-old Bridgewater Township man was likely asleep in his bedroom when he was killed in the blast around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning, said Michigan State Police Sgt. Chuck Bachmeier. Michigan allows people with concealed carry permits to carry guns in schools, with a twist; the guns have to be openly carried in the school.  Michigan preemption law prevents local units of government from enacting a patchwork or local, contradictory laws, many of which violate basic Second Amendment rights.  MCL 123.1101(a) and MCL 123.1102 preempt local units of government from regulating firearms. In March of 2014, Johann Deffert was exercising his second amendment rights by peacefully openly carrying a holstered handgun in Grand Rapids.  As he passed a Church, someone called 911, perhaps to harass the open carrier.  Such harassment has become common, and is advocated by disarmists.  When the police arrived on the scene, Deffert was already well past the Church.  The officer drew his pistol and pointed it at Deffert.  The most threatening activity appears to be something the 911 caller never mentioned, and which the officer characterised as "talking to nobody", certainly an innocuous activity in these days...

In all, 17 service pistols and shotguns belonging to Flint police are officially listed as stolen, while another 22 guns used by Flint police are listed as lost or missing -- including a sub-machine gun and a short-barreled shotgun.
