"I know lots of single men," Cara, 26, a resident of Brooklyn, New York, told Mic. "It's just... most are of little or no interest to me as anything other than a hookup." Tired of old ways: The somewhat revolutionary notion that women are actually deciding not to marry is something that wouldn't be possible if the value of marriage itself hadn't changed drastically over the years. "When women's life choices were highly constrained, they had little negotiating power," Pepper Schwartz, a sociology professor at the University of Washington, wrote for CNN. "They had to marry or were seen as...

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Officials with the Pawtucket Red Sox say the baseball club will end its pursuit for a proposed stadium on waterfront land in downtown Providence. PawSox Chairman Larry Lucchino said in a statement Saturday that the group tried hard to make the deal work, but Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo determined the land was not suitable for a new ballpark. A spokesman for House speaker Nicholas Mattiello said Friday that negotiations between the state and the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox had stopped. “It is disappointing that negotiations have ended at the I-195 property. I thought...

The dating scene has changed a little since 1727 when spinster Helen Morrison became the first woman to put a lonely hearts ad in a newspaper – and was promptly committed to a lunatic asylum for a month for her audacity. Now it’s no longer taboo to say you’re searching for love: in fact, a major report out tomorrow by relationships-counselling charity Relate reveals that 16 per cent of 25 to 34 year olds met their current partner through online dating. “That number is rising all the time – it’s reached 30 per cent in America,” says Relate counsellor Barbara...

A group of climate scientists, including Professor Kevin Trenberth, have demanded President Obama abuse the RICO act, to silence criticism of their theories. The letter; Dear President Obama, Attorney General Lynch, and OSTP Director Holdren, As you know, an overwhelming majority of climate scientists are convinced about the potentially serious adverse effects of human-induced climate change on human health, agriculture, and biodiversity. We applaud your efforts to regulate emissions and the other steps you are taking. Nonetheless, as climate scientists we are exceedingly concerned that America’s response to climate change – indeed, the world’s response to climate change – is...

“You have made a mockery of the French Republic,” he said. “There can be no conditions whatsoever. There is simply the law to respect. Period.” Uber’s strident brand of Silicon Valley exceptionalism is clashing with an entrenched French business culture that grants the government and incumbent firms great sway. . The number of taxi licenses in Paris had risen just 25% in the previous 75 years. As France took aim at Uberpop, Uber grew even more defiant. In April 2014, France’s consumer-protection authority referred Uber to French prosecutors for falsely claiming that Uberpop was legal. Three days later, Uber said...

Okay, so I have a high school classmate who is a leader in the black community who posts things like this all the time. He might as well come out and use the words "Uncle Tom" when he discusses Ben Carson, but memes like this are all he's got. I read this, and of course it immediately struck me that this is likely a hoax of some kind. The only "evidence" that I can find that Carson actually said this is a page from the Daily Kos website that says he did, and then a bunch of other websites that...

Actor Mickey Rourke wants to tell Donald Trump to “go f—k himself.” The aging action star, who allegedly paid a homeless man to lose a staged boxing match with him last year in Moscow, has fighting words for the Republican frontrunner in a new video. “Tell Donald Trump to go f— himself,” the 63-year-old told a TMZ camera crew Friday. (snip) When asked by TMZ who the candidate of his choice would be, the actor said, “I like the doctor, uh, the black dude.”

Since analytics do not lie,(unless manipulated by Google et. al., which we cannot rule out) I noticed an interesting paradigm that sums it all up............ In most any search engine, if you enter Cook County (Chicago, Illinois) into the search bar, the first and foremost item that seems to come up is "Cook County Inmate Search", along with many other unhappy search terms, etc. etc. on the drop down menu.............. Conversely, with Salt Lake County, the first term that usually comes up is "Library"....along with many other happy words, like State Fair, Job Search, etc........ Just a fews thoughts come...

It has been rumored off and on over the years that various big automakers are secretly at work on a flying car, and this week patent drawings emerged that show some ideas from Toyota’s drawing board. The patent application, which is dated Sept. 3, shows drawings of a car with four “stackable wings.” The wings, which will be short enough that they don’t protrude from the sides of the roof, can be deployed in various configurations for different phases of flight, from takeoff to cruise. The car also would have three rotors — two horizontal and one vertical.

According to Joshua Gonnerman, a doctoral student in historical theology at the Catholic University of America, it’s been anything but business as usual on campus for the past few weeks. “I honestly wouldn’t describe it as much as a buzz or an energy so much as an insanity,” Gonnerman, who has a ticket to attend the Papal mass at Washington’s Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, says with a laugh. “What with all the preparations and the security measures that are being put into place, it’s just … everything is just going crazy.” It’s a sentiment that, at present, appears to...

Carly Fiorina clearly said in the debate last night that in the Planned Parenthood videos the viewers can see a baby on the table, its heart beating, and people talking about cutting it open to harvest its brain. "Anyone who has watched this video tape, I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, to watch these tapes. Watch a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking, while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain," Fiorina said. In reality, those videos were of the participants in those horrendous abortion and harvesting incidents. They...

snip Then came a gag order in late June — approved by a judge who is also the DA’s former law partner. No wonder people are asking questions about what kind of behind-the-scenes cooperation is going on among judges, prosecutors and law enforcement in Central Texas. We expressed concern in July after word came that longtime Waco police detective James Head would serve as foreman of the grand jury that likely will hear the shootout case. Can the bikers get a fair hearing under those circumstances? The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals could go a long way toward airing out...
