As the dust begins to quickly settle from the hotly contested Republican primary and Mitt Romney assumes the title of presumptive nominee, it’s important to recognize the role Newt Gingrich has played and will continue to play in helping the Republicans win the White House and Senate this fall. The former House speaker recently told Newsmax in an interview that he remains in the race, not as a spoiler, but to play a key role promoting a conservative agenda at the Republican convention in Tampa in August. It’s a worthy goal – and I have no doubt that Newt will...

RealClearPolitics had access to a meeting in Dover, Delaware Wednesday held by Newt Gingrich. During the get-together with members of the Delaware Tea Party, Gingrich, a former Fox News analyst, lambasted the channel. “I think FOX has been for Romney all the way through,” said Gingrich, adding, “Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than FOX this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of FOX, and we’re more likely to get distortion out of FOX. That’s just a fact.” Gingrich revealed he’s been invited by CNN to one of...

Gingrich on Plan B: 'I'm Quite Happy With Plan A, Frankly' By NBC's Alex Moe LANCASTER, Penn. – Campaigning in Pennsylvania with one-week left before the state’s primary, Newt Gingrich acknowledged he has no “Plan B” and downplayed one of his top surrogate’s call for him to exit the presidential race. Asked if he is thinking about what he will do if he does not get the nomination – what his “Plan B” would be – Gingrich brushed it off. "I don't worry about that right now. I'm focused on the nomination,” Gingrich said following remarks at the Lancaster County...

LANCASTER, Pa. - Two of the Republican candidates for president are in Pennsylvania a week ahead of the state's primary election. Mitt Romney, the GOP's all-but-certain presidential nominee, and Newt Gingrich, are scheduled to speak at the Republican Committee of Lancaster County’s spring event in Lancaster on Tuesday evening. Rick Santorum, who suspended his campaign last week, has canceled his appearance. Santorum, a former Pennsylvania U.S. senator, hasn't hinted whether he'll eventually endorse Romney, but said he'll say soon how he'll continue to press for conservatism in politics.

First Lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday put the Supreme Court at the core of President Barack Obama's argument for reelection, telling supporters that the vote in November could affect Americans' security, freedoms and whether they can "love whomever we choose" -- a reference to the fight over gay and lesbian rights. "This President has brought us out of the dark and into the light," she said in a speech at a rally in Nashville. "I hope you all are fired up and ready to go." Her comments came as Washington awaited a ruling from the nine justices on whether her...

I am from Georgia. I've known Newt since we were 15 years old. We spent an evening together during Spring break at Panama City, FL - two nerds who wore glasses, sitting on the patio talking when the rest of my cheerleader friends were down at the Band shell dancing and flirting with the cool football players. He was fascinating, a talker, interested in history and government even then. He was also a kid in an identity crisis. He had just found out about his biological father and his birth name. He was trying out Leroy McPherson instead of Newt...

R.C. Hammond, a spokesman for the Gingrich campaign...brushed off a question about whether renting the list diluted its value or signaled an end to the campaign. “No, it demonstrates the campaign is pursuing new sources of revenue,” he said. Gingrich has loaned the campaign “thousands, primarily toward travel and lodging expenses,” Hammond said, but he added “the campaign intends to reimburse” the loans.

Here’s a series of recent quotes in which Gingrich appears to be a man divided. * “If [Romney] can't get to 1,144 on the 26th of June, the last primary, then it is going to be a wide-open electronic convention for 60 days of talking among the American people.” — CNN interview, March 26 * “Either Romney will self destruct, or Romney will be the nominee.” — Lunch with supporters, April 2 * “I’m trying to get to an open convention to see what would happen ... I’m not going to beat Romney head to head, but ... if we...

I (plus about 4000 others) just got off of a conference call with Rick Santorum. Perhaps a more detailed report will be forthcoming, but here are some quick notes that I took: "I had a chance to talk to Newt. I haven't had a chance to talk with Governor Romney." He spoke about working hard to make sure that the Republican Party had a "conservative platform" and a "conservative message" and that they "follow through with that conservative message after the election". "I haven't supported any candidate at this point." He said that they are working with states to "make...

TRUE COLORS TIME If you listened closely to Sarah tonight on Levin’s program, she was pretty much endorsing Romney. I suspect she will hold her cards, won’t jump into the fray until the convention, where she will get maximum exposure for her particular agenda. And then she will play the good citizen role and support Romney. I’ve been worried about her since she showed up so ungraciously during the summer to rain on the parade of some of the more conservative candidates… The same applies to her as everyone else... Not fighting, not helping Newt right now, is the same...

Appearing before the National Rifle Association annual meeting this afternoon, Newt Gingrich called for a new United Nations treaty that would give the right to bear arms to every person on the planet. This proposed treaty would counter the United Nations Small Arms Treaty currently supported by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. After Gingrich’s speech concluded, NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox came out on stage and said “The Gingrich Treaty…I like that.” The Daily Beast noted that Newt’s reception from the crowd of 5,000 people was more enthusiastic than Governor Romney’s. If the Republican presidential nomination were decided by the...

Less than two months ago, Herman Cain, who was out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination, stood on a stage in West Palm Beach, just three days before the Florida primary and told the crowd, “I hereby officially and enthusiastically endorse Newt Gingrich for the president of the Unites States.” Gingrich had just come off a sweeping win in South Carolina, had the fundraising dollars pouring in and a financial safety net in billionaire donor Sheldon Adelson. But on Monday Cain walked back his endorsement of Gingrich saying, “With all due respect, let’s get on with this, OK?”...

It is terrible that conservatives are out there distorting the records of each candidate. Or worse passing along wrong information without checking facts. All of them have qualifications and disqualifications. But can we get away from what they SAY they will do and compare what they actually DID when they were afforded governing power? I was talking to a nationally published conservative author and speaker today who had absolutely no clue that Newt Gingrich gave the “keynote” rebuttal AGAINST Al Gore on Cap and Trade legislation. This is a travesty not just of conservative media, but those we surround ourselves...

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The day after Newt Gingrich was bit by a penguin at a zoo, he acknowledged he is “the underdog” and said his campaign began renting their donor list because they needed money. --- “Compared to Barack Obama, Romney’s a conservative,” he said. “Let’s be clear: There are no liberals in the Republican party.”

While everyone is in the weeds counting delegates and wondering who Santorum will endorse (it will be Romney), few people are talking about the degree to which the GOP will be emboldened if Romney gets the nomination. It will be a sign to them they can get the evangelical, social and fiscal conservatives to fall in line, all they have to do is wait them out. A few days ago, Mark Levin said he was disgusted with the Republican establishment, right after he said, 'we conservatives have to work together to pull out a victory for Mitt Romney’, just one...

With Rick Santorum out of the Republican presidential field, clearing a path to the nomination for Mitt Romney, the fight to become the party’s standard-bearer is over, right? Well, not entirely. Despite the nearly unanimous view that Mr. Romney will be President Obama’s challenger in the fall, there are still two men — Representative Ron Paul of Texas and Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House — who have not yet agreed. In the face of scorn from their peers, they continue to campaign, even if fewer people are paying attention. Both men say they are seeking influence over...
