The Atlantic magazine raised eyebrows on Friday when it published a piece calling for the abolition of the Nobel Peace Prize after President Trump was nominated for the prestigious honor. The president's name was submitted for the 2021 prize by Norwegian lawmaker Christian Tybring-Gjedde, who cited Trump's role in brokering a peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Trump has since earned a second nomination from Swedish lawmaker Magnus Jacobsson for overseeing an economic deal between Kosovo and Serbia. The nominations, however, apparently didn't sit well with the liberal magazine, which declared Friday that "peace had its...

Trip to Norway Reignites Debate Over Obama's Qualifications for Prestigious Award. Aides said he will address Afghanistan and the decision to add troops there and present it in the overall context of the award he is accepting. The miraculous inner strength and will to live is so strong with some babies that even despite attempts to abort them, they survive – born into the world, umbilical cord cut… breathing on their own. Only a few years ago, these children could be left to die – murdered after birth. The President opposed legislation that would protect their lives. Obama - who today won the Nobel Peace Prize – while a Senator in Chicago, blocked the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. The Act eventually passed in Illinois despite Obama’s opposition. In the last decade, Al Gore has won the triple crown: an Oscar, a Nobel Peace Prize, and (this is disputed) Florida. Now, winning an Oscar is hard—you usually have to pretend to be handicapped, or speak with a semi-convincing English accent, or spend hours in an uncomfortable period costume. And Gore himself would have trouble telling you how to claim the Sunshine State. But the Nobel Prize is easy. The important thing to remember is that peace doesn't have much to do with it. One of the very first winners was Theodore Roosevelt, a man who described the Spanish-American...

Before I tell you how the Dallas Morning News is breathlessly reporting that Nobel laureate Betty Williams called for the death of President Bush at the "International Women's Peace Conference" in Dallas on the 11th, I must remind you all that peace activists on the left are far more "civilized", "Humane", "tolerant", and "intelligent" than the rest of us. OK? I just wanted to get that straight before further relating this story. James Hohmann of the News reports that Williams, who is Irish and not a US citizen by the way, "came all the way from Ireland to Texas to...

OSLO (AFP) - Former US vice president Al Gore, Finnish peace broker Martti Ahtisaari and Chinese dissident Rebiya Kadeer are among those seen as possible winners of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, as the nomination period draws to a close. Emails, faxes and letters have been flowing in to the Nobel Institute in Oslo ahead of the February 1 deadline for nominations. "I still believe very strongly in Ahtisaari," the head of the Oslo Peace Research Institute (PRIO), Stein Toennesson, told AFP. "The peace process in Indonesia (orchestrated by Ahtisaari) is so important. He has a good chance, but everything...

OSLO (AFP) - Attack the causes of poverty and you remove the roots of conflict -- that is the message the Nobel Committee wanted to send out by awarding its Peace Prize to the creator of a micro-credit scheme which benefits millions, analysts said on Friday. Bangladeshi economist Muhammad Yunus, the so-called "Banker to the Poor", and the Grameen Bank he founded three decades ago were the surprise winners of the award for pioneering a system of small-scale loans that has helped 6.6 million people escape the grind of poverty. As the head of the Nobel Committee, Ole Danbolt Mjoes,...

TORONTO, Sept. 28 - As one of Canada's pre-eminent historians, David Bercuson of the University of Calgary is not your average couch potato. But with beer in hand and feet up on the sofa, he watched the Olympics on television last month to cheer on the world champion hurdler Perdita Félicien to win a gold medal for Canada. When Ms. Félicien inexplicably stumbled into the very first hurdle like a rank amateur, Mr. Bercuson dashed straight to his computer. He knocked out a screed declaring that her sad performance, and that of the entire Canadian Olympic team, was just another...

She's cloned another baby...developing on Drudge..breaking...developing...breaking... AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - A UFO cult said on Saturday the world's second cloned baby had been born to a Dutch lesbian, but cloning experts swiftly dismissed the claim as a baseless stunt. "A baby girl was born yesterday evening. The baby is healthy and the mother too," Bart Overvliet, head of the Raelian movement's Dutch branch, told Reuters by telephone.
