Hal Baumgarten was a 19 year old private on D-Day. Jewish and originally from NYC, Baumgarten was in Company B of the 116th Infantry Regiment of the 29th. He landed in the 2nd wave on Omaha Beach in one of the most heavily defended parts of Omaha, the Dog Green sector below the village of Vierville-sur-Mer (as depicted in the movie Saving Private Ryan). Hal was wounded 3 times on D-Day and twice more on June 7th. He had 23 surgeries after June 6, 1944, to repair wounds suffered on the Normandy coast of France. Hal has written several books...

Today is the anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt (wiki) in 1415, when the English under King Henry V defeated the French on St. Crispin's Day (25 October) of that year. Henry (1387-1422) followed his father King Henry IV to the throne in 1413 and two years later announced his claim to the French throne and rekindled the Hundred Years War by invading Normandy. This is also the anniversary of the "the charge of the Light Brigade" (wiki) at the Battle of Balaclava on 25 October 1854. Although of relatively little importance in the larger context of the Crimean War,...

The press are your enemy. Treat them that way and don't back down. Not only is it the way to get elected, it's the way to govern too. Last week Rob explained one of the main reasons Donald Trump continues to lead the Republican nomination race, in spite of having spent only $2 million on his campaign so far. In essence, Trump understands what traditional Republican candidates don’t about how to deal with the media: Don’t take their crap, don’t let them intimidate you and don’t be afraid to call them on their idiocy and dishonesty. Perhaps you’ve noticed that...

It happened again: on a train filled with cheese eating surrender monkeys hurtling through the Belgian countryside towards Paris, the Americans came to the rescue: Crew on Paris-bound train barricaded themselves in their staffroom and locked the door as Kalashnikov-wielding terrorist went on the rampage – leaving PASSENGERS to take him down. And, as usual, the passengers were 3 Americans and a Brit. When an Islamic terrorist (Can I say that? The French called for caution before jumping to conclusions.) opened fire with an AK-47 (wait, you’re not allowed to have an assault rifle in France!) he was rushed and...

Seventy-one years ago, the British, Canadians and Americans landed on the Normandy beaches to open a second ground front against Nazi Germany. Operation Overlord -- the Allied invasion of Western Europe -- proved the largest amphibious operation in military history, dwarfing even Xerxes' Persian invasion of Greece in 480 B.C. Brilliant planning, overwhelming naval support, air superiority and high morale ensured the successful landing of 160,000 troops on the first day -- at a cost of about 4,000 dead. Three weeks after the June 6 landings, nearly a million Allied soldiers were ashore, heading eastward through France. Hitler's once-formidable Third...

Late on the night of June 5, 1944, a Douglas C-47 Skytrain commanded by Lt. Col. John M. Donalson launched with 15 paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division on board. They were the very tip of the Allied invasion spear, leading a formation of hundreds of aircraft carrying thousands of troops. Just after midnight on June 6, That’s All, Brother navigated through intense German fire and low clouds to drop the first Allied troops to land in Normandy, France, on D-Day, commencing Operation Overlord. Seven decades later, Staff Sgt. Matt Scales of the Alabama Air National Guard was researching Donalson’s...

On June 6, 1944, more than 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline, to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which, “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end, the Allies gained a foot-hold in Continental Europe. The cost in lives on D-Day was high. More than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded, but their sacrifice allowed more than 100,000 Soldiers to begin the slow, hard...

Proof that BHO can do two things at a time: in this case chewing gum while listening.I think it is going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once.Warning: do NOT attempt to add a third task, as it is likely to reveal the limits of even BO’s amazing multitasking abilities.“Spit that damn gum out Boo-Rock!”Important note for the White House Chief of protocol and the State Department:  Singapore does not recognize our Second Amendment right to pack a gum.And they frown on spitting it out too.“Skeeter Obama” shoots his bubble gum...

The 89-year-old D-Day veteran who sneaked out of his care home to Normandy has returned to a hero's welcome and declared: 'I would do it again tomorrow.' Hiding his war medals under a raincoat, Bernard Jordan told carers he was going for a walk before boarding a coach to France for the 70th anniversary - sparking a frantic missing person search. The former Royal Navy officer arrived into Portsmouth on a cross-channel ferry this morning, where he said: 'I expect I will be in some trouble with the care home, but it was worth it.'

Full title: "Today we honor men who fought on D-Day to defeat Nazis & end the Holocaust. Here is President Reagan’s remarkable speech at Point du Hoc on the 40th anniversary." Seventy years ago was “D-Day.” The bravest men America and our Allies had to offer stormed the French coast of Normandy. They did it to defeat the cruel and evil Nazi tyranny. They did it not to conquer but to liberate. They did it to set free the people of France, and all the people of Europe. They did it to liberate the concentration camps and end the Holocaust....

June 4-5: Marks the 25th anniversary of The Tiananmen Square Protest in which hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Chinese citizens demonstrating for democracy were cut down by their government. June 5: Also marks the 10th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s death; the man who ended the Cold War by winning it. June 6-7: Marks the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, a horrific battle which landed Allied forces on the beaches of Normandy giving the Allied Forces a foothold in Europe that finally led to our victory in World War II. So here, for your weekend reflection, a couple of pieces...

A couple of years ago, I wrote a piece about the fading sentimental connection of today’s generations with World War II, the defining event of the 20th century. There is some oddity in living through the transition: in seeing the soldiers whom FDR called “our sons” become our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, and then the ghosts of history commemorated on tombstones. One of the most important transitions is the fading of the grand narrative by which we defined and guided our nation for so many decades. The hindsight of history has its rewards. But it has its drawbacks as well, as...

This past weekend British artists Jamie Wardley and Andy Moss accompanied by numerous volunteers, took to the beaches of Normandy with rakes and stencils in hand to etch 9,000 silhouettes representing fallen people into the sand. Titled The Fallen 9000, the piece is meant as a stark visual reminder of the civilians, Germans and allied forces who died during the D-Day beach landings at Arromanches on June 6th, 1944 during WWII. The original team consisted of 60 volunteers, but as word spread nearly 500 additional local residents arrived to help with the temporary installation that lasted only a few hours...

A D-Day veteran who was reported missing from a care home has been found in Normandy after travelling to France to mark the invasion's 70th anniversary. Bernard Jordan, 89, a former mayor of Hove, sneaked out of The Pines nursing home in Furze Hill yesterday after being told by staff he could not make the trip to Normandy. Donning his war medals under a raincoat, the Royal Navy veteran joined his former comrades on a coach, before arriving at a hotel in Ouistreham, northwestern France, 12 hours later.

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis says the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landings is an opportunity for present generations to show gratitude for the “heavy sacrifice” of soldiers who landed on the beaches of Normandy to fight against “Nazi barbarism” and free occupied France during World War II. He also states that it should serve as a reminder that excluding God from the lives of people and societies can bring nothing but death and suffering and he calls on the people of Europe to find their roots and future hopes in the Gospel of Christ. The Holy Father’s words are contained...

This morning the BBC and Euronews TV were carrying what was advertised as the D-Day commemoration at Ouistreham beach in Normandy, France. What started as a tribute to the wonderful veterans, who were seated in the hot sun whilst the elites relaxed under the structures built for the occasion, quickly degraded into mindless, godless pandering for World Socialism by International Banking's puppet administrator in France, Hollande. Just when I thought they would proceed with something sensible, Hollande gave way to a most disgusting, new world order, fabian socialist, godless, modern dance propaganda infomercial for totalitarian statist globalist new world order....

An 89-year-old WW2 veteran who was banned by his nursing home from going to France for the D-Day commemorations sneaked out and went anyway. The pensioner left the Hove home at 10:30 BST on Thursday and was reported missing in the evening, police said. The nursing home received a call from a younger veteran later on saying he had met the un-named veteran on a coach. The two were on their way to France and said they were safe and well in a hotel in Ouistreham, Sussex Police said. Hundreds of veterans have been marking the 70th anniversary of the...

This June 6th marks the seventieth anniversary of the D-Day Normandy landings. While not the largest amphibious operation in history, it is perhaps the most significant. Europe was pinned beneath the boot of National Socialism, a godless, gnostic sect that swept God from public life. The Normandy invasion spelled the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany. The scope of all that happened on D-Day is hard to fathom. Its success in all its many facets is a testimony to the powers of organization and order that once existed in America and her Western allies. On that day full of...
