Occupy Wall Street sweetheart and Massachusetts Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren spent Tuesday evening hobnobbing with Hollywood celebrities and fundraising for her campaign at the home of Emmy Award-winning television producer Norman Lear, The Daily Caller has confirmed. Dubbing Warren liberal Hollywood’s new “It girl,” The Hollywood Reporter’s Tina Daunt wrote last month that Lear and his wife Linda would be co-hosting an event for Warren, featuring such stars as Barbra Streisand, Rhea Perlman, Danny DeVito and Hans Zimmer. Attending the event required a donation of between $1,000 and $5,000, continuing Warren’s trend of raising money outside the state...

You're so angry and stupid that...you're GONNA EXPLODE!!! That sums up the incredibly embarrassing childish critique of Rush Limbaugh by Norman Lear. Not one issue was mentioned. Ironically Lear slammed Limbaugh for being like an uncontrollable kid yet it was Lear himself who lowered himself to using slams that most folks haven't heard since sitting in a grade school cafeteria and hearing the children ragging on each other. Even for the Huffington Post, Lear's childishness is over the top. The only reason I can think of about why the editor gave his piece a pass is that Lear is a...

Yesterday, driving to work I listened to Rush Limbaugh read a letter he'd written to President Obama. I listen to Limbaugh because he reminds me of the carnival barkers of my youth, men who were selling elixirs, snake oil, or inviting you for an extra 50 cents to check out the half man/half woman in the secreted tent. They were quaint and harmless compared to the barking Limbaugh who yesterday would have us believe -- he actually said this! -- the President was seeking to destroy the country so that he might then save it. The rest of the day,...

Does anyone know anything about this group? It is a 503c that was started by Norman Lear. According to the website it "is committed to the rebirth and re-expression of citizenship through informed and thoughtful activism." Forgive me if I screw up this post, I've never doe it before....

Without realizing it, I have apparently evolved – or been promoted. Instead of being just an average, everyday garden variety Republican, I am suddenly one of “them.” Without application or initiation, I now have a “hard line” membership with the far right – and the astonishing thing is, I didn’t have to do a damn thing to receive it, sort of like a President Obama tax “cut.” No longer am I just a middling conservative, or a meager traditionalist. I am an honest-to-goodness, above-board extremist now. How cool is that? I honestly thought there’d be more work involved in earning...

Norman Lear: New Right Will Emerge November 7, 2008 Jim Meyers TV producer Norman Lear has warned, the Republican Party will “take a hard turn to the extreme right.” Lear, co-founder of People For the American Way, wrote: “With the right in its new role as ‘the opposition,’ get ready to see an invigorated right-wing grassroots, media and organizational infrastructure.” Lear — whose TV shows included “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons” — asserted that the The Heritage Foundation “is already digging in its heels saying they will not let President-elect Obama bring about the change he's promised.” The...

TV producer Norman Lear has co-signed an e-mail warning fellow liberals that with Democrats in control of Congress and the White House, the Republican Party will “take a hard turn to the extreme right.” Lear, co-founder of People For the American Way, and the organization’s president, Kathryn Kolbert, wrote: “With the right in its new role as ‘the opposition,’ get ready to see an invigorated right-wing grassroots, media and organizational infrastructure.” Kolbert and Lear — whose TV shows included “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons” — asserted that the The Heritage Foundation “is already digging in its heels saying...

Lyn Davis Lear is worried. As Mrs. Norman Lear writes in the Huffington Post, President Bush, Karl Rove and Vice President Cheney appear awfully confident of retaining a Congressional majority. This, despite the fact the mainstream media merrily reports every poll suggesting a huge Democratic victory, if not a landslide, is only two weeks away. Mrs. Lear frets that Republicans are planning an election eve surprise, or may win by spending so much more than their opponents. Then again, maybe they're planning to just steal the election. Gore Vidal suggested to her that "the Bush-Cheney henchmen could simply call on...

Some famous people are trying to help Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont defeat three-term U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman in next month's primary. Entertainer Barbra Streisand, actor Paul Newman, billionaire financier George Soros, television producer Norman Lear and singer Jackson Browne all contributed to Lamont's campaign, according to campaign finance data filed Saturday with the Federal Election Commission. Streisand, Soros and Lear, producer of "All in the Family" and "Maude," each contributed $1,000. Newman, who lives in Westport, Conn., gave $2,100, while Browne, known for hits such as "Running on Empty" and "Lawyers in Love" contributed $500. Lamont's campaign released a breakdown...

Hollywood celebrities and prominent corporate executives have poured thousands of dollars into the campaign of former Rep. Nick Lampson (D-Texas) to knock off Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas). Screenwriter and producer Norman Lear, director Rob Reiner, actress and singer Barbara Streisand and musician Don Henley have written checks to Lampson, according to politicalmoneyline.com, a website that tracks campaign contributions. Reiner and Streisand kicked in $1,000, and Lear and Henley sent Lampson $4,200. While Democrats have courted Hollywood stars in recent years, the moguls’ money has usually flowed to presidential candidates, the national party or the congressional fundraising committees. As a rule,...

Dear Senators, The Senate must reject President Bush's attempt to reward right-wing special interests by nominating Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court of the United States. Alito's record as an ideological activist would make his confirmation a threat to civil rights protections, reproductive and privacy rights, environmental protections, religious liberty, and laws safeguarding workers. I urge you to vote not to confirm Samuel Alito to a lifetime position on the Supreme Court of the United States.

Probably over now unless they're continuing it today on the MLKing holiday but hope you were able to catch this. Great show--writing, acting, etc. Yeah, a bunch of libs put it together and they portrayed a traditionalist/ conservative as an ignorant bigot while liberal Mike was a college student, but whaddaya expect. Still entertaining. So many phrases and lines pop into one's head: Stifle; Meathead; Dingbat; lil' girl; ya figured that out, hah?; Edith, get me a beer, hah?; You're a pip, etc. More than a few dramatic moments mixed in with the comedy. What other comedy show ends an...

September 23, 2005, 10:55 a.m. The Roberts Disruption A few years ago, checking in with the office, I was told I had a telephone call from Norman Lear. I immediately returned it, and probably my voice quavered. The very thought of being in personal touch with the producer of All in the Family! My all-time favorite television program. "What," I asked unctuously, "can I do for you?" "Well," he said, "I would like you to be the keynote speaker at the annual banquet of People for the American Way." I wondered how Archie Bunker would have responded to such a...

Liberal activist Norman Lear told me last week that if George W. Bush wins re-election, "watch what happens to real estate in New Zealand." He wasn't joking. Mr. Lear may have an exaggerated notion of the number of Americans with means to relocate to the other side of the globe. But he accurately reflects the intense feelings of a few who do: himself, financier George Soros, insurance executive Peter Lewis and Hollywood mogul Stephen Bing. Together, they have spent more than $50 million to register new voters and defeat President Bush. They are the X factor in this year's election:...

New York ON A THURSDAY they had the book party. It was a simple affair: just family, friends, coworkers, and journalists. They came to Ambassador Joseph Wilson's house, nestled in the ritzy Palisades neighborhood of Northwest Washington, to celebrate the release of his first book, The Politics of Truth. One thing Joe Wilson keeps track of is his "Notoriety Quotient," or the amount of attention he receives from the media. And that Thursday it seemed to be on the rise. For the past week The Politics of Truth was mentioned in the same breath as Ron Suskind's The Price of...

General enlists Hollywood to ignite campaign By Julian Coman in Washington (Filed: 30/11/2003) In an unlikely attempt to gain star backing for a slow-burning campaign, the Democratic presidential candidate, General Wesley Clark, is spending late nights talking politics with Madonna and wooing sympathetic supergroups such as The Eagles, with whom he recently shared the stage during a rendition of Hotel California. Gen Clark, who had a cerebral and somewhat austere reputation during his military career, has spent much of the past month seeking out the late-night company of west coast rock stars, screen idols and movie producers. While his rivals...

WASHINGTON — The man who brought Archie Bunker into America's living rooms launched a major new drive Thursday - with the help of some Hollywood celebrities - to get young people into the voting booth.

Television producer Norman Lear (search) said the campaign, called Declare Yourself, will use entertainment, education and the Internet to inspire Americans ages 18 to 29 to register and vote. Despite his liberal reputation, Lear said the voter drive is nonpartisan.
