Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) said Tuesday she supports the Iran deal, becoming the last Senate Democrat to take a position on the agreement. "I am supportive of the deal," she told reporters. "Anything that can move it forward I'll support." Cantwell is the 42nd senator to back the agreement, after Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) also came out in support earlier Tuesday. Cantwell added that she would also support a filibuster of the vote on a resolution to disapprove the deal.

President Obama has earned enough Democratic votes in the Senate to filibuster a Senate effort to block the Iran nuclear deal, if necessary. On Monday, Sens Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI) , Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) , and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) announced their support for the deal, tallying enough votes to successfully filibuster the deal. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced his opposition to the deal in a surprise defection from Obama, citing Iran’s support of terrorism and the death of American soldiers. “This regime has shown no signs that its deplorable behavior will change, and this deal does nothing to...

Civil disobedience, a socialist foundation for change was rampant in the 1960’s. There were groups such as the Black Panthers, Students for a Democratic Society, and the Weatherman Underground that tried to force a culture upon America that was fundamentally progressive/socialist in nature. There were many young impressionable people who rejected the moral and values of the Eisenhower era, The young children, the brats of the culture have grown up. These are the same people who are now in charge. There is now another upheaval in American culture. There is no new song, and the only books giving direction to...

Senior diplomatic officials in Jerusalem rushed on Thursday night to respond to the news that US President Barack Obama had secured the necessary congressional support to overcome opposition to the nuclear deal with Iran. “There is an overwhelming majority of the American public and members of Congress who are opposed to the agreement with Iran,” one official in Jerusalem argued. “Even supporters of the agreement say the United States should further strengthen its relationship and alliance with Israel.” …

Washington - Former Vice President Dick Cheney will say Tuesday that President Barack Obama is responsible for directly equipping Iran with the capability to destroy the United States, calling the negotiated nuclear deal "madness." In a fiery speech to be delivered Tuesday at the American Enterprise Institute, the Republican security hawk will unleash an aggressive attack against the Iran deal, which Congress will begin debating this week. "This agreement will give Iran the means to launch a nuclear attack on the U.S. homeland," Cheney will say, according to excerpts provided to CNN. "I know of no nation in history that...

Mike Pompeo and David B. Rivkin Washington Post ..... "But the president has not given Congress a key side agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This document describes how key questions about the past military dimensions of Iran’s nuclear program will be resolved, as well as the precise operational parameters of the verification regime to which Tehran will be subject."

A Defense One survey finds deep skepticism among U.S. active-duty military and civilian government employees in national-security jobs. Just 26 percent of U.S. national security workers believe that the West’s nuclear agreement with Iran is good for America, and even fewer think it will help Israel or Saudi Arabia, a new Defense One survey shows. Asked to evaluate the statement “The Iran nuclear deal is a good deal for the United States,” some 66 percent of responders disagreed — and two-thirds of that group “strongly disagreed.” The group’s outlook was even dimmer about the deal’s effect on U.S. allies. Most...

Registration for this event is closed and walk-in registrations will not be accepted. If you would like to request admittance to the event, please email Laura Lalinde at laura.lalinde@aei.org. President Barack Obama and his supporters have framed the debate over the Iran nuclear deal as a choice between accepting the agreement or opting for war, claiming there is no alternative to this deal. However, critics argue that the current agreement not only allows Iran to acquire a nuclear weapons arsenal, but also may bring the world closer to nuclear war than at any time in 70 years. As the US...

On March 11, 2015, Secretary of State John Kerry said the Obama administration was “not negotiating a legally binding plan” with Iran and therefore their nuclear agreement did not have to be submitted to Congress for approval. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) is ready to challenge that notion by putting forward a resolution that would define the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action as a treaty. The Corker-Cardin bill, a.k.a. the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015, was introduced as an accountability tool for the Iranian deal, requiring a 'yes' or 'no' vote from Congress. Yet, as more details about the...

Iranian leaders view the nuclear deal signed by western powers as a “surrender” to Iran, and as cementing the Islamic Republic’s status as a “superpower.” An analysis by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) has shed light on the sense of victory held by Iran’s most senior leadership, as neighboring countries prepare for a surge in terrorism sponsored by an emboldened Tehran. Among the comments translated by MEMRI was a statement made by Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan at an armed forces general command ceremony on August 30, in which he boasted that Iran had forced the “surrender” of...

Former Secretary of State and Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Colin Powell backed the Iran deal on Sunday. The retired statesman, who played a key role in the push for war in Iraq, later supported Barack Obama for president. Powell made his announcements on NBC News’ Meet the Press on Sunday. “My judgment…is that it’s a pretty good deal.” Powell said that while Iran could continue working toward a nuclear weapon when the deal expires, the agreement would at least slow that down. “We have stopped this highway race that they were going down.” Powell added that “they get nothing”...

Washington (CNN) - Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tried out his best Tony Montana impersonation this week in an effort to illustrate his staunch rejection of the Iran nuclear deal. Speaking to a full room in Houston, Cruz spent much of Tuesday afternoon berating the deal; comparing its element of Iranian inspection to a self-inspecting, fictional, drug kingpin. "Have any of y'all seen the movie 'Scarface?'" Cruz asked. "This is the equivalent of law enforcement picking up the phone and calling Tony Montana and saying, 'Hey Tony, you got any drugs?' 'I don't got no drugs.' 'Thank you, Tony.' That is...
