Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton sent a passionate video message to the Laborers’ International Union of North America, demanding that they help get the message out about Donald Trump. She pointed out that she was against “Right To Work” and appeared upset that Trump was gaining in the polls despite his record of supporting it. “Having said all this, ‘Why aren’t I 50 points ahead?’ you might ask,” she said, highlighting Trump’s anti-Labor union stance. “Nobody should be fooled,” she said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EyoKB3ZHSc
  • No health effects from Fukushima: Japan researcher

TOKYO (AFP) - A Japanese government-backed researcher said Friday no health effects from radiation released by the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant have been seen in people living nearby. The pronouncement by Kazuo Sakai of Japan's National Institute of Radiological Sciences is the latest by authorities seeking to quell fears over the long-term effects of the disaster. But it was dismissed by campaign group Greenpeace who said the government should not seek to play down health worries. "Since the accident in Fukushima, no health effects from radiation have been observed, although we have heard reports some people fell ill due to...

Japan – What’s Next? by Ari Bussel Japan is trying to get back to normal, but is it really possible? Allow me to start by quoting a reader’s comments to an earlier article I wrote about Japan – An Earthquake and a Tsunami: Having been through multiple earthquakes — Sylmar, Whittier Narrows, Palmdale, NORTHRIDGE, let me try to explain what an earthquake does to you. As we go through life, we base all our thoughts on certain foundation concepts. These are our “anchors” to explain the world. When Terra Firma is not firma, essentially every single thing you think about...

Surging radiation levels temporarily halted work to cool the troubled reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, raising worries that officials are running out of options to stabilize the escalating catastrophe. "We're very close now to the point of no return," Dr. Michio Kaku, a theoretical physicist, said. "It's gotten worse. We're talking about workers coming into the reactor perhaps as a suicide mission and we may have to abandon ship."

This is a nuclear reactor game I came across about ten years ago. It allows you to try to get reasonable power out of a plant without melting it down. It's hard, and very informative. It is especially timely, considering current events.
  • Japan nuclear health risks low, won't blow abroad, experts say

Health risks from Japan's quake-hit nuclear power reactors seem fairly low and winds are likely to carry any contamination out to the Pacific without threatening other nations, experts say. Tokyo battled to avert a meltdown at three stricken reactors at the Fukushima plant in the worst nuclear accident since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, triggered by Friday's tsunami. Radiation levels were also up at the Onagawa atomic plant. "This is not a serious public health issue at the moment," Malcolm Crick, Secretary of the U.N. Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, told Reuters. "It won't be anything like Chernobyl....
  • Japan Nuclear Fallout: How Bad Could It Get? Nuclear expert explains worst-case scenarios, and more

    The Daily Beast ^ | 03/12/2011 | Josh Dzieza
As Japan scrambles to cope with a nuclear reactor damaged in the quake, Josh Dzieza talks to Ron Ballinger, a nuclear expert at MIT about how the plants work, worst-case scenarios, and more. Plus, full coverage of Japan's catastrophe. Shortly after Japan was hit with the double disaster of a magnitude 8.9 earthquake and subsequent tsunami, a possible third reared its head: nuclear meltdown. The quake caused 11 of Japan's nuclear reactors to shut down automatically, including three at the Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant, 170 miles northeast of Tokyo. But the quake also cut Fukushima off from the power grid,...

Japan’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) said March 12 that the explosion at the Fukushima Daiichi No. 1 nuclear plant could only have been caused by a meltdown of the reactor core, Japanese daily Nikkei reported. This statement seemed somewhat at odds with Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano’s comments earlier March 12, in which he said “the walls of the building containing the reactor were destroyed, meaning that the metal container encasing the reactor did not explode.”
  • Please, I need some advice regarding Potassium Iodide tablets for Radiation(serious vanity)

I have potassium iodide tablets, I thought they were expired but they're good through 4/11 so I'm good. Drudge has a nuclear plants ready to blow in Japan and another ready to blow (who knows?). I have three kids. How are we going to know to use these tablets if we have to? I hope the stupid people in charge don't keep us in the dark until it's too late. What are we to do?
