The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday unanimously voted to ban tents from city parks. Some Occupy L.A. activists called it an assault on the Occupy Wall Street movement. They said homeless people are the ones who will be hurt by the ordinance. Occupy protesters took over a park in front of City Hall for about two months before it was dismantled by a police raid last November.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A new report released Friday says that the city’s response to last year’s Occupy Los Angeles protests and the two-month encampment at City Hall cost more than double the original estimate. A new report from the Public Safety Committee says the cost of Occupy L.A. to the city was $4,710,947, $2 million more than an estimate reported in February. The extra expense comes from newly reported costs to police Occupy L.A. and the price to restore the City Hall Park and monuments, which were damaged by protesters camped at City Hall. From early October to late...

While the Occupy Los Angeles encampment has been gone for several weeks now, a few remnants of the protest are being stored by the city. The Department of Cultural Affairs is now trying to find a new home for several large murals that were painted at the encampment. But Occupy L.A. organizers argue the murals should be released to them, saying in a letter that the city "misunderstands the true purpose and value" of the murals. "By naming them 'artifact,' you describe our once-living art as lifeless and attempt to frame our movement as such," the letter read. "We assure...

Police and Occupy the Rose Parade demonstrators had a meeting of the minds this week, with protesters who plan a post-Rose Parade march down Colorado Boulevard promising not to disrupt the main event and police ensuring the demonstrators would be treated fairly as long as they keep their word. In a meeting Wednesday with Police Chief Phillip Sanchez and other department brass, Occupy the Rose Parade organizers agreed not to disrupt official Rose Parade proceedings. “We want to make sure this is completely non-disruptive to the main parade,” said Occupy the Rose Parade organizer Peter Thottam. “We’re going to work...

Personal information about more than two dozen members of the Los Angeles Police Department's command staff was anonymously posted on a website, officials said Wednesday. The LAPD is investigating who may be behind the site, which listed officers' property records, campaign contributions, biographical information and, in a few cases, the names of children and other family members. In the last few months, hackers have tried to break into the servers of several public agencies including the LAPD, the Fullerton Police Department and the Bay Area Rapid Transit system.

Los Angeles police used nearly a dozen undercover detectives to infiltrate the Occupy LA encampment before this week's raid to gather information on the anti-Wall Street protesters' intentions, according to media reports Friday. None of the officers slept at the camp, but they tried to blend in during the weeks leading up to the raid to learn about plans to resist or use weapons against police, a police source told the Los Angeles Times. The source spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case is ongoing. The undercover work yielded information that some protesters were preparing bamboo spears and...
  • City Attorney Wants To Ban Occupy Arrestees From City Hall

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The City Attorney’s Office recommended that 46 people charged with crimes related to the LAPD raid on the Occupy L.A. enacampment not be allowed back to City Hall to continue protesting. Charges were filed against protesters who either resisted arrest or had prior criminal records. “We believe it is appropriate since they were arrested for violating the law in that area that they be ordered by the court not to go back to that area,” Thomas said. He likened it to a husband accused of beating his wife, saying it would be reasonable to request the...

Sanitation officials said Wednesday that they expect to haul away 30 tons of debris from the Occupy L.A. encampment –- everything from clothing to heaps of garbage to oddball curiosities left behind by the protesters who lived at the City Hall tent city for two months. Andrea Alarcon, president of the city Public Works board, said workers already have removed 25 tons of belongings from the City Hall park, all of it heading straight to a landfill. Sanitation crews also have vacuumed up about 3,000 gallons of water that had washed into a catch basin in recent days and are...

After raids, Wall Street protesters shift tacticsUpdated: Nov 30, 2011 4:37 PM EST By CHRIS HAWLEY Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) - The overnight police raids in Philadelphia and Los Angeles that dismantled two of the nation's biggest Occupy Wall Street encampments leave just a few major "occupations" still going on around the U.S. But activists are already changing tactics and warning of a winter of discontent, with rallies and marches every week. The camps may bloom again in the spring, organizers said, and next summer could bring huge demonstrations at the Republican and Democratic conventions, when the whole world...

The Occupy movement, which is protesting a wide range of perceived wrongs from fat cat Wall Street bankers to social and economic injustice, also is being strongly influenced by communists and socialists, though you wouldn’t know that from reports by the mainstream media. But as this video shows, it is more about those who hate America and want to see capitalism replaced by socialism, even though most of the protesters have no idea of what that would really mean to them.

Andrew Smith. The meeting will likely determine the fate of Occupy San Fernando Valley and lay out guidelines if it is to proceed.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Wednesday that the Occupy Los Angeles encampment outside City Hall "cannot continue indefinitely" and has asked city officials to draft restrictions limiting when people are allowed on city property. "I respect the protesters' right to peacefully assemble and express their views," Villaraigosa said. "City officials have been in a continuous and open dialogue with the organizers of Occupy L.A. However, the protesters must respect city laws and regulations, and while they have been allowed to camp on City Hall lawns, that cannot continue indefinitely." A spokeswoman for the mayor said he has also instructed city officials...

As the national media continues to promote the idea that these absurd "Occupy" protests demonstrate some groundswell of popular opinion, reports continue to emerge from localized media showing how ugly these encampments are becoming. A report out of Cleveland that  police are investigating a rape claim made by a 19-year-old woman last weekend has received little attention. Do you suppose if a rape claim was made against a tea partier that it would receive more attention? It's gotten so bad in Baltimore that organizers are discouraging alleged victims from going to the police (maybe they should go to Sheriff Biden).Meanwhile,...
