Police are searching for two burglary suspects after Sgt. Craig “Hutch” Hutchinson was killed in a shooting at his house early Monday morning. The sergeant was shot at his home on Oak Meadow Drive in the Cimmaron neighborhood, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. AUBURN, Mass. (AP) -- The suspect in the fatal shooting of a Massachusetts police officer died after an exchange of gunfire Sunday as authorities closed in on him at a small town residence, police said. The man, identified as 35-year-old Jorge Zambrano, burst out of a closet and opened fire on the officers as they approached him inside an apartment in Oxford, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said at a news conference. A West Penn Township police officer was airlifted after being injured during a traffic stop this evening (Wednesday, September 2, 2015) along West Penn Pike (SR309) on the Blue Mountain. Other online news articles identify the officer as Sergeant Melissa “Missy” Ruch. State Police stated she was assaulted while approaching a disabled vehicle. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM near the top of the mountain. Responding to an emergency radio ID activation, law enforcement officers found officer Ruch about 20-foot down an embankment. A North Carolina officer shot dead a 74-year-old man whose concerned family had called the police and asked to check on him. Officer Josh Lefevers arrived at the home of James Allen just before midnight on Sunday morning and announced he was entering the residence when Allen approached him with a handgun and refused to put it down, police said.
