Planned Parenthood Southwestern Oregon on Wednesday said it has declined to accept a $73,893 federal Community Development Block Grant allocated to the non-profit agency by the city of Springfield back in April to help with the construction of the agency’s $8.5 million health center in Glenwood. Only 43 people turned in unwanted guns Saturday at Ceasefire Oregon’s latest community collection event, in the Veterans Memorial Coliseum parking lot. Last winter, Portland police collected 152 guns at a similar event, and earlier turn-ins yielded even more. A federal investigation shows more than 7 million dollars in stimulus money was misused by Rogue Valley forestry companies, when they hired foreigners instead of Americans. When "Recovery Act" contracts were being handed out, four local companies said they couldn't find American workers, and hired 254 people from across the border. That's according to a Department of Labor investigation. The four companies are GE Forestry, Ponderosa Reforestation, Medford Cutting Edge, and Summit Forests. A man hunting with his grandson accidentally killed a U.S. Marine due to return to duty this week, after mistaking him for a bear in the Oregon wilderness, authorities said. PORTLAND — A man who displayed a handgun at Occupy Portland’s downtown encampment after a dispute with protesters has been arrested, police said in a statement Thursday. The argument took place Wednesday afternoon when 32-year-old Jason C. Parker was challenged verbally by protesters after filming tents, police said. One of the protesters used a racial epithet against Parker, who is black, police said. A witness said Parker was filming inside tents without permission and displayed the gun more than once after protesters at the camp displayed knives.

WARREN, Ore. - Columbia County Sheriff's Deputies are searching for a suspect after a Warren, Oregon homeowner opened fire when he was awakened by an intruder trying to get into his house. Warren is located along the Columbia River between Scappoose and St. Helens, Ore.
