On Monday, protesters all over the world marched on behalf of world socialism, communism, and a bunch of other causes popular with the political left. In Portland, they rioted. To be fair, many protesters did not riot, but the ones who did showed that they rule the streets of Portland. The rioters were clad in black with scarves covering their faces, burning things, breaking windows, damaging property, and terrorizing afternoon commuters just trying to get home. In other words, it was a Parade for Rioters. Meanwhile, two days earlier on Saturday, April 29th, the 82nd Avenue of Roses Parade and...

A gay veterans group said Wednesday it has been denied permission to march in this year’s Boston St. Patrick’s Day parade just two years after organizers made the groundbreaking decision to allow gay groups to participate for the first time. OutVets, which marched in Boston’s 2015 St. Patrick’s Day parade after decades of resistance from organizers, said on its Facebook page that the reason for the denial to this year’s parade is unclear, but “one can only assume it’s because we are LGBTQ.”

Tons of security: Dump trucks set to protect Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade after ISIS called it 'an excellent target' Fans of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade who come to see the soaring SpongeBob and Snoopy balloons may get a far less heartwarming sight this year: giant dump trucks filled with sand. More than 80 city sanitation trucks will be used at intersections and other strategic spots along the two-and-a-half-mile parade route to create an imposing physical barrier to terror. The trucks weigh about 16 tons when empty and up to twice that with sand. 'You can ram a New York...

There always have been flags but this year, there were many more and not just in the parade but in the spectator areas too. People and groups were not afraid to show their love and support of our flag. Many...

Tony Sarg & an elephant balloon (via printmag.com)As the procession of bands, balloons, and high-production spectacles makes its annual appearance in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, let's time travel back to the 1920s to the innovative puppeteer who made the inflatable characters part of the American holiday. The Macy's parade started in 1924, but in 1927 its collaboration with Tony Sarg took things way up a few whimsical notches.
