So what do we make of Jesse Kelly? I’m probably no different to many in that I’ve searched for something, anything to replace a mere portion of Rush Limbaugh and his program. There are many pretenders, few contenders. I’ve addressed the ‘officially designated heirs’ of Clay Travis & Buck Sexton in another post. Their biggest problem is attempting to be nice guys while getting into the dirty business of politics. They simply won’t attack the Marxists & statists directly. They’ll criticize, they’ll complain but that’s about all. They have fallen into a rut of Chicken Little shrieking about all the...

The music and podcast-streaming service Spotify announced Monday it is laying off 200 people as it makes changes to its podcasting division. “We are expanding our partnership efforts with leading podcasters from across the globe with a tailored approach optimized for each show and creator. This fundamental pivot from a more uniform proposition will allow us to support the creator community better. However, doing so requires adapting,” said Sahar Elhabashi, Spotify’s vice president and head of its podcast business, in an internal update. “As a result, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to make a strategic realignment of...

WASHINGTON, April 10, 2006 – The Pentagon Channel has added video podcasting to its line of products that distribute the channel's military news and information to the nation's men and women in uniform. "We work hard to communicate with the men and women of the department around the world," Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld said. "I am pleased that we are using video casting and other increasingly important technologies to reach our global audience with all the news and information available on the Pentagon Channel." The channel's video podcasting line-up includes: "Around the Services in Brief," the daily...

Excerpt - RUSH: I have a technological advancement from the EIB Network and Rush 24/7. It is about our audio and video podcasts. We podcast the entire radio program without commercials each afternoon. You can get it automatically downloaded to your computer with our free media center software. You can download it manually from the website if you wish, and at the same time that download comes automatically, the video podcast, video of the next Morning Update, is included in the package. Well, since we started this, many people have said, "How come you just don't make it available in...

Howard Dean this week headlined the Democratic National Committee's first "podcast" on the Internet -- a brief, recorded audio broadcast that listeners around the globe downloaded, signaling, experts told United Press International's The Web, that podcasting is going mainstream. The embrace of the technology is a first for the DNC -- though during last year's presidential campaign the camps of President Bush and election loser John Kerry relied heavily on an earlier generation of Internet technology to reach voters. Until now it was known that Microsoft will not release support for podcasting (RSS feeds with attachments) in Windows Media Player until the Windows Vista (successor of Windows XP) will be released (early 2007). It may be however that this podcasting support will come earlier - in a next version of Windows Media Player available for download soon! It would mean that synchronizing of podcasts would be possible also with Windows Mobile devices, because Windows Media Player in Windows Mobile can be synchronized with Windows Media Player in PC already. Yesterday Adam Curry - the self-proclaimed father of podcasting (in...

The business of podcasting has just garnered some of its first serious venture capital. According to a press release from PodShow, Inc., three investment capital firms have bought an undisclosed share of Adam Curry's and Ron Bloom's new business venture that seeks to commercialize podcasting by aggregating the "large and disenfranchised audience" of podcast listeners. Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Sequoia Capital and Sherpalo Ventures have bought into PodShow, Inc., for $8.85 million, according to the press release. In the statement, PodShow, Inc., said, "With its new infusion of capital, Management expects to announce additional features, programs and technologies that...

ROME, JULY 14, 2005 (Zenit.org).- When Vatican Radio recently launched its podcasting option for audio files, it didn't expect the big response it received from around the world. It was like a "resurrection of this 70-year-old voice of the Vatican," the director of the English Section at Vatican Radio, Sean Patrick Lovett, told me. As it stands, Vatican Radio broadcasts in more than 40 languages to every country via all long, medium and short waves and, for the last four years, has enabled its listeners to tune in via the Web, at www.105live.vaticanradio.org. These methods have required listeners to stay...

With over one million subscriptions in the first 48 hours, iTunes 4.9 has already proved it’s the new heavy-hitter in the league. And all those subscribers have translated into a massive surge in traffic for podcasters. Los Angeles area public radio station KCRW has been podcasting 22 of its shows since March, and was already experiencing rapid growth. KCRW started the month of June with 75,000 downloads per week. That number had already increased to 108,000 in the week before the iTunes 4.9 launch. But following the release, KCRW reported a “tenfold” increase in traffic. “With the launch of iTunes...

Apple on Tuesday released iTunes 4.9, a new version of their digital music jukebox and music download store software for Mac OS X and Windows. The new release features the ability to browse and subscribe to “podcasts” — radio-style shows that you can download over the Internet and listen to either in iTunes or using an Apple iPod. The software has been released through Mac OS X’s Software Update system preferences pane, and it’s also available as a separate download from Apple’s Web site. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later, G3/400MHz or faster, QuickTime 6.2 or...

Is talk radio becoming derailed by peculiar programming moves, unfocused hosts and some who just don't belong on the air? Recently, the Radio Equalizer has begun to receive feedback from industry managers, air talent and listeners, alerting me to disturbing developments in the medium. At a time when blogs, XM, SIRIUS and podcasting threaten AM radio from every angle, one would expect a sharp focus on what works, an effective plan of attack. Instead, the decisions become more baffling every day, with no sign of change coming soon.

During his speech at the "D3: All Things Digital" conference, Apple CEO Steve Jobs demonstrated iTunes 4.9, an upcoming revision to the music player for Mac and Windows. Jobs said the new version would incorporate support for Podcasts, the popular pre-recorded audio broadcasting concept. The software will be released within the next 60 days, according to Jobs. Apple will only offer free Podcasts through iTunes. The final version of iTunes 4.9 will also display relevant album art during Podcasts, providing users with purchase links to the iTunes Music Store. Apple will also offer a tool for content creators to upload...

By G.D. GEARINO, Staff Writer DURHAM -- Mur Lafferty (and let's get this out of the way right now -- her actual name is Mary) scoffs at the idea that she's a podcasting pioneer. Why, hundreds of people were doing podcasts before she launched hers. Maybe even a thousand. Pioneer? Pshaw. Modesty is an endearing trait, and precision in language is appreciated. That said, Lafferty needs to get comfortable with this description. She's a podcaster at a moment when most of the world has yet to even hear the term. The overwhelming majority of us are still at the point...
