UNC-Chapel Hill's Board of Trustees on Monday approved the transfer of $2.3 million in diversity and inclusion spending to public safety priorities in the 2024-25 budget. The trustees held a special meeting Monday morning. The board is scheduled to hold its regular meeting Wednesday and Thursday. The UNC System Board of Governors is expected to vote next week to eliminate diversity goals and jobs at member institutions, including UNC-Chapel Hill. A Board of Governors committee last month approved a complete rewrite of the system's existing diversity, equity and inclusion policy. The move is likely to create job losses at the...

Here we go again: another specious racial-profiling controversy. Al Sharpton has announced his intention to sue the New York Police Department for allegedly racially profiling black New Yorkers, based on recently released data on police stop-and-frisks. In fact, the data show that police are stopping blacks too seldom and whites too often. But even if the numbers didn’t so completely undermine Sharpton’s claim, the real scandal of his anti-police demagoguery would remain his refusal to acknowledge the black community’s most pressing problem: sky-high crime rates.

Sunni Clerics Urge Followers to Join Iraq Army and Police By ROBERT F. WORTH AGHDAD, Iraq, April 1 - A group of Sunni Arab clerics, including some hard-line figures who fiercely oppose the American presence here, issued a statement on Friday urging their fellow Sunni Arabs to join the Iraqi Army and police. The edict, signed by 64 imams and religious scholars, was a striking turnaround for the clerics, who have often lashed out in sermons at the fledgling army and police force and branded them collaborators. Prominently missing from the signers was Harith al-Dari, the leader of the Association...

October 31, 2002 Trick or Treat? 13 Canadian farmers hauled off to jail in handcuffsby J. L. Jackson www.freedominion.ca It may be Halloween but it isn’t a trick and certainly no treat. On October 31st, thirteen political protesters were handcuffed and sent to jail in Lethbridge, Alberta. These weren’t your average run of the mill anti-globalism, Marxist, hippy type of protesters, however. Believe it or not, these were – farmers. Regular every-day kind of farmers who plant their grain, have coffee in the local coffee shop, buy farm supplies at the local farm supply store and who often buy their...
