Princeton Professor Eddie Glaude warned viewers of MSNBC's Morning Joe show not to allow selfishness to lure them into voting for Trump. "I know a lot of you are tempted to place your own prosperity ahead of social justice and vote for Trump's reelection," Glaude said. "Well, DON'T DO IT!" "Granted, Trump's economic policies of deregulation and tax cuts have helped spur a booming economy," the Professor admitted. "Unemployment was at historic lows for minorities before the pandemic and the lockdowns hit. Likewise, stock prices have rallied back to where they were in January—enriching every person who has an IRA...

President Trump's effort to break the Congressional deadlock on the next iteration of coronavirus relief by threatening to issue an Executive Order has Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) incensed. "His insistence that the coronavirus relief bill be focused on stimulating the economy after it was shut down to slow the spread of the contagion is too narrow," he said. "We want to include bailouts for states that have crippled their economies with reckless spending and high taxes. There are hundreds of thousands of government employees in my state who could face layoffs, pay cuts, or deferred pensions if federal...

This week Goya Foods President and CEO Bob Unanue participated in the White House Hispanic Prosperity Initiative. The Initiative asked Hispanic business owners and managers for their ideas on how the Trump Administration could help improve opportunities within the economic and educational realm for prosperity among Hispanics. Unanue’s praise for this initiative sparked a firestorm of hate from anti-Trump hysterics demanding that he apologize or face a boycott of his company’s products. In contrast to typical corporate CEOs, Unanue held his ground and refused to apologize. “Unlike President Obama, President Trump is genuinely concerned with the prosperity of all Americans,”...

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, loser of the 2016 presidential election Hillary Clinton boasts that "I would've done a better job handling the pandemic than Trump." "First, if I had been the president when the virus struck there would have been no need to shut down the economy," Clinton asserted. "The only reason for shutting down the economy was to deflate the economic gains in profits and jobs sparked by Trump's tax cuts and deregulation. This unwarranted prosperity would never have happened if I were running the federal government. Dr. Fauci wouldn't have been allowed to issue dire...

The Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) announced it is retiring the slogan "Work hard. Be Nice." Richard Barth, KIPP Foundation CEO, said "the amazing financial success of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) organization's business plan of 'Break Stuff, Get Paid' has inspired us to rethink our message." "Clearly, the 'work hard and be nice' model only works in a civilized free society." Barth declared. "If we examine the hundred thousand years that homo sapiens have lived we observe that in only a few hundred years and in very few places have we seen free societies. The 'break stuff and get...

The list of 319 positive accomplishments achieved during the first three years of the Trump Administration were assailed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) as "further evidence of his unsuitability to serve as president. He has taken this country off of the track that his immediate predecessor set for America. The different direction Trump has set us on is, in effect, a derailment that has destabilized the nation." Vice-President Mike Pence disagreed and pointed out that "we are living in a stronger and more secure America with the best economy in the history of this country. We're confident that this...

Who better than a finger-wagging teen bereft of accomplishment, or any comprehension of basic economics or history, to be Time magazine’s Person of the Year in 2019? Greta Thunberg’s canonization is a perfect expression of media activism in a deeply unserious time. Has there ever been a less consequential person picked to be Person of the Year? I doubt it. I mean, Wallis Simpson, 1936’s Person of the Year, got King Edward VIII to abdicate the throne. Thunberg can’t even get you to abdicate your air-conditioning. These days we celebrate vacuous fire and brimstone. “Greta Thunberg”—the idea, not the girl—is...

Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, fellow Americans, and people of the world: thank you. We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and to restore its promise for all of our people. Together, we will determine the course of America and the world for years to come. We will face challenges. We will confront hardships. But we will get the job done. Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power, and we are grateful to...

The Democratic-leaning issue committee is supporting Proposition CC, which seeks to eliminate state spending caps under TABOR. Turnout among Democrats for the 2019 election has been low. Coloradans for Prosperity, a deep-pocketed group working to pass Proposition CC on November’s ballot, has been sending people a voter “report card” in an effort to boost turnout. The report cards grade recipients on their recent voting record compared to their neighbors, urging them to cast their ballots. Some voters have been frustrated by the mailers, however, saying they incorrectly give them a poor mark on their turnout. “Public records indicate that you...

Recently there seem to be an increasing number of claims that American prosperity resulted from slavery. This is presented as justification for the renewed calls for reparations for slavery, which Democrats are using in an attempt to gain support as we approach the next presidential election. But did slavery actually create the wealth of the U.S.? Does this claim have any historical basis in fact, or is this a distortion of history to influence the views of voters? We should all agree that slavery is an immoral institution in which people are treated as property and work, not for themselves,...

Once again, a traditional symbol has become a target of those who attack private property rights and the American way of life. In this case, the symbol is the lawn – those closely-cropped grassy areas that surround most single-family homes. The basis for the attack is very typically environmentalism and racism. The messenger is an article in The New York Times. Its title is unassuming enough – “The Great American Lawn: How the Dream was Manufactured.” The vehicle is an embedded seven-minute film, produced by David Botti. The Attack The film’s first minute summarizes the environmental concerns: More water is...

You should be afraid, very afraid. Or so I’m told when I imprudently open email solicitations and read the news articles linked in those solicitations. Why should I be afraid? Because, if I’m like most Americans, I am approaching old age with too little savings to enjoy a secure and adequate retirement. The frequent warnings may contain a kernel of truth (see here, here, and here). Still, it’s hard to see much evidence for the scary headlines when we examine the relevant income statistics. They show the elderly and retired are doing pretty well. What is more, their incomes compare...

In the 1970s, Americans were told we were in a global cooling crisis and if something wasn’t done, we’d enter a new ice age. When that didn’t happen, a few decades later we were told that entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend was not reversed by the year 2000. Despite the consistent failure of these apocalyptic warnings, that hasn’t stopped climate change alarmism. We’re now being told we only have 12 years to combat climate change, and the solution is to fundamentally dismantle the system of...

For most people, particularly in the United States, things have never been better. Yet, the newspapers and airwaves are filled with stories of impending disaster. Many of the doomsday scenarios have been around for some time but doomsday has yet to arrive. We were told by The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, etc. that the Trump election would be an economic calamity and that we would be in major new wars by now. None of this happened — in fact, just the opposite — but sometime the boom will end, maybe next month, next year; no one...

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview on Monday that she believes a system that allows people to become billionaires is “immoral.” Wrong, fool. A system that doesn’t permit people to keep what they earn, that punishes success and achievement while rewarding legalized plunder of the unearned for political gain is immoral. A system that results not in economic prosperity and a rise in the standard of living for each generation, but instead results in stagnation, mediocrity and ultimately despair–THAT’S immoral.

This week, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson generated a veritable firestorm over his pitch for a new brand of American populism. In truth, his brand of populism isn’t particularly new — it’s a merger of Pat Buchanan–era paleoconservatism and Bush-era compassionate conservatism. It’s an attempt to rally government behind preferred conservative causes — rebuilding the family chief among them — rather than recognizing that government is typically an obstacle to those causes; it’s an attempt to fill a gap in the soul with a policy-based solution. Here’s Carlson’s explanation of markets: Market capitalism is a tool, like a staple gun or a...

The economy is roaring. On Friday the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the jobs report for October. It exceeded expectations. We are seeing the best wage growth since 2009, when we were crawling out of the recession. In October, 250,000 jobs were added to the economy. The unemployment rate held at 3.7 percent — its lowest level since 1969. The average hourly earnings increased at a 3.1 percent pace, year over year. That is the strongest wage growth since April 2009. More people are working than in any time in recent memory and employers are having trouble filling positions.
