If you think that things couldn't get any worse in Baltimore after the riots last month following Freddie Gray's death, guess again. Police have responded to the indictment of six officers in that case and the resultant chaos by pulling back. Arrests are way down, with bookings decreasing by 50 percent. Cops are either angry over the indictments or afraid of making another arrest that could end up on the front page. So consciously or unconsciously, they are standing aside instead of charging in. Not too coincidentally, crime is up. By this weekend the city will probably exceed 40 murders...

They’re threatening a bloody attack!….. Armed bikers are planning an anti-Islamist protest on Friday at the Islamic Community Center in Phoenix, Arizona. We still don’t know what happened to Freddie Gray in Baltimore earlier this month, aside from the general agreement that he died in police custody with a nearly severed spine. The city’s leaders have been out in front of this, delivering information to the public as it comes in and investigating every aspect of the incident. There is clearly the possibility that there was police misconduct – or at least negligence in prompt medical care and safety precautions – going on, but the facts are still being gathered. The University of Michigan isn't the only area university whose showing of the film "American Sniper" on Friday caused controversy. Four protesters were temporarily detained after disrupting an 8 p.m. showing of the film April 10 on the Eastern Michigan University campus, according to university officials. EMU spokesman Geoff Larcom said during the first of two planned showings at university's Student Center, protesters got on stage and disrupted the movie. SEATAC, Wash. — Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant told a SeaTac municipal court judge Thursday that she will represent herself in an upcoming trial for disorderly conduct prompted by her arrest in November during a protest. On Nov. 19, Sawant and three others were arrested for not leaving a roadway during a protest against big airlines for not paying their workers a living wage. Of those arrested, Sawant, Socrates Bravo and John Helmiere appeared together before a judge for a pretrial hearing. A judge exonerated their bail amounts.

A group of people describing themselves as Stanford students blocked westbound traffic on the San Mateo Bridge minutes before 5 p.m. on Monday.
