Chuck Purgason began the filibuster at noon yesterday on the Monster of a "Tax Incentive" bill that would take 150 Million of Missouri taxpayer dollars and hand it over to Ford Motor Company. The battle was joined by Senators Bartle and Goodman and is still ongoing. Live Feed here: http://senate.mo.gov/ (click on Live Debate - Senate)

Can state get 'fair share' without earmarks? Senate candidate Blunt says he'll continue to seek them; Carnahan and Purgason say system flawed. Washington -- For years, Missouri universities, cities and organizations have received targeted funding from the federal budget, thanks to longtime Sen. Give Missouri state Sen. Chuck Purgason credit for being an outspoken critic of the fuzzy logic being used to promote a huge taxpayer subsidy for Ford’s Claycomo plant. Purgason isn’t going quietly Monday, the day he was ousted as chairman of the Government Accountability and Fiscal Oversight Committee, with the help of Senate President Pro Tem Charlie Shields. Said Purgason in a hot-off-the-press statement: I guess (Shields) doesn’t like the way I’m holding government accountable. Ouch.

Yes, this is totally unscientific. I asked this question several months ago, and I want to see if the results have changed since then. If the Republican Primary for U.S. Senate were held today, who would you vote for? Chuck Purgason (75%, 297 Votes) Roy Blunt (18%, 71 Votes) Other (5%, 21 Votes) Neither/Not a Republican (2%, 9 Votes) Total Voters: 397 This poll will appear in this post and in the sidebar until Friday, July 16. Thanks.
  • Ford: A four-letter word around the Missouri Capitol

JEFFERSON CITY • In the Missouri Capitol, "Ford" has become a four-letter word. "This is not about rewarding one company," state Rep. Jerry Nolte, R-Gladstone, told fellow House members last week as they were debating the Ford bill that Nolte is sponsoring. Nolte was careful not to mention the four letters that have become the center of attention in the special session called by Gov. Jay Nixon: F-O-R-D. For Nolte and other lawmakers pushing the bill, they put on their best dodge anytime a lawmaker or reporter refers to the economic incentive package as the "Ford bill." "This is not...
  • Blunt (R-MO) starts airing ads in Primary campaign (Omits Government Record)

... Ad ignores Blunt's political career Blunt's ad offers similar anti-Democratic themes --without mentioning any names. Blunt spokesperson Rich Chrismer said in a statement that the ad (entitled "Education and Hard Work") "highlights how the America that Missourians know and love, where anything can be achieved by working hard at school and in life, is threatened by Washington’s out of control spending and debt." Says Blunt in the spot: "I was taught there was nothing you couldn’t achieve through education and hard work. But today that America is threatened. Irresponsible spending, crippling debt are killing jobs today and our children’s...
  • Missouri Senate Race Heating UP

Wake up to Missouri. The 2010 US Senate Race is heating up with a variety of polling sources pointing out some interesting results. Jan 19th Rasmussen reports show polling reports putting Rep Roy Blunt (RINO) against Robin Carnahan, DemoRat. Latest Poll on Jan 19 shows Blunt ahead of Carnahan 49% to 43%. Unfortunately Rasmussin reports only polled the other CONSERVATIVE Republican Chuck Purgason back on Nov 13-15th. Purgason polled 35% to 42% to Carnahan. I find it very unfortunate that the polling for Purgason is not being current. It is the assumption of the Republican Party operatives in Missouri that...

A Rally and Lobby Day at the Missouri Capital will be held on January 27th, 2010 to support legislation introduced into the Missouri House and the Missouri Senate supporting Missouri Tax Reform. The rally and lobby event is in support of (HJR-56) and companion Senate Bill (SJR--29) which will, if passed, go to a vote of the people to change the Missouri Constitution to ABOLISH the State Income Tax, and replace the income tax with just under a one cent sales tax increase. Studies conducted by the Show Me Institute have proven that Missouri is losing substantial economic development opportunity...
