Two-Hundred and Thirty-eight years ago today They signed their names and history was on its way To be forever set anew upon a pathway none yet "knew". And for the Founders of America fair -- So promising, so hopeful: a dream not yet dared -- Determined to give us Guiding Light, They turned to GOD to guide us right And when in prayer they bent their knee, To seek His wisdom, His guidance be The way to govern our land so fair They turned to Providence, Who is always there. And so a Tribute, to them and to thee For...

For the first time in ages, I am refurbing an arcade machine. I have done nine of them, but it has been a while. Anyway, I use an old Win98 PC to emulate arcade games in the old case, and I have forgotten if this can be done...I am trying to idiot proof the machine so after I get it set up, people won't be messing with the OS. I would like to remove the My Computer and Recycle Bin icons from the desktop in Win98. Worst case, I could edit a blank Icon and rename them with blanks, but...

I see Pelosi and her lapdog media are going to push for more liberty to be destroyed by demanding a higher minimum wage. Doesn't she own wineries along with her husband?.. How much do they pay their grape pickers? When she took over as the Speaker of the House, I remember seeing a report that she is the RICHEST PERSON TO EVER hold that office. You don't hear much about that, do you?

One of the more common misunderstandings of the modern age, we might even call it a delusion, is to confuse explanation with meaning. Through scientific method and other empirical ways of studying, we have gotten very good at explaining many of the processes and mechanics of the natural world. But to give explanation, is not the same as to ascribe meaning. To answer how things work is not the same as to answer why. Why, for example, do things exist at all? Why is there existence vs. nonexistence? Why is there observable order in the universe vs. chaos. Showing for example the...

Old Movie Search I would like to appeal to Free Republic participants for help in locating the title of an old movie. I don’t have a great deal to go on but my memory believes this much is known. The movie is in black/white. The star may have been Clark Gable. The story was about newspaper reporters. The reason for my questions revolves around the dialog between the star reporter and the cub reporter at an after work gathering. The cub reporter is asking the star reporter the difference is between a reporter and a journalist. The response is what...

**SNIP** UPDATE No. 2: On Thursday, we receieved a response from Hammill: “The Leader believes it is not her role to pressure other Members that have children, mortgages, tuition costs and other significant financial responsibilities, and are working very hard to open government and end the Republican Government Shutdown.” OK…so our response to that was: “But what is The Leader going to do? Will SHE continue to accept her Congressional paycheck during the shutdown?” Still awaiting a response to that. UPDATE No.3: Hammill has confirmed to The Chronicle that Pelosi will indeed continue to accept her pay. END OF UPDATE.

Posted: 10:05 PM Last Updated: 26 minutes ago •By: Jacqueline Ingles LAKE MARY, Fla - Lake Mary Police are now questioning the validity of several statements Shellie Zimmerman made when she told 911 dispatchers her estranged husband, George Zimmerman, threatened her and her father at gunpoint Monday afternoon. "We did not find a gun, did not locate a weapon," said Zach Hudson, public information officer with the Lake Mary Police Department. "Nobody ever saw a gun. A gun is not part of this story." Still, a gun was at the crux of the account Shellie Zimmerman provided to 911 dispatchers...

A mother and daughter who used an internet dating scam to steal $1.1m (£700,000) have been jailed for a total of 27 years. Denver-based Karen Vasseur, 63, and daughter Tracy, 42, tricked victims into thinking they were talking to US service personnel looking for love. The prolific scammers duped 374 victims in the US and 40 other countries. ... Colorado authorities said the pair ran an operation which included several other members who have not been caught. This "staff" would do the leg work of targeting potentially vulnerable people on popular social media sites or dating services. Tracy Vasseur received...

Going on the offensive about President Obama’s mysterious whereabouts during the Benghazi terrorist attacks of September 11, 2012 that resulted in the deaths of four Americans including Ambassador Chris Stevens, White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said it was “offensive” for anyone to question whether the White House could have done more. The assertion “from Republicans” that Obama was not responsive enough during the attack, said Pfeiffer, is “offensive.” “The premise of [the question on Obama’s whereabouts],” Pfeiffer explained, “is that somehow there was something that could have been done differently and would have changed the outcome here. The accountability...

But although moderator Bob Schieffer of CBS News raised the topic of the Sept. 11 attack in Libya in his first question onstage Monday in Boca Raton, Fla., Romney and then Obama instead responded by broadening the topic to Al Qaeda, the Arab Spring and the Middle East. Romney only mentioned Libya once, saying that the attack was carried out "apparently by, I think we know now, by terrorists of some kind against our people there." He went on to “congratulate (Obama) on taking out Usama bin Laden and going after the leadership in Al Qaeda. But we can’t kill...

Hi, here's another question from a technologically challenged, internet addicted, freeper. Let me begin by saying that my PC runs Windows 7 and I have Internet Explorer 9. However, a number of websites (yahoo, weather channel ...) keep showing statements about me having to update to IE9. Well, maybe it is not aimed at me, maybe they just have that announcement. But now I cannot read the comments in the Jerusalem Post and the reason, in their words, is "Sorry, the browser you are using is not currently supported. To use the comments, Disqus recommends the following browsers: Firefox,Chrome,Internet Explorer...

The bitter tone of the debate over the legality of circumcision has shocked Jews living in Germany and reopened old wounds. In light of what many report are ongoing difficulties, some are now wondering if the country truly wants them. Arye Sharuz Shalicar was looking for a place he could call home. It wasn't an unusual wish. He doesn't wear a kippah and isn't a devout Jew. He grew up in Berlin's Wedding district, surrounded by Turkish and Arab children -- a difficult combination. Later he wore the uniform of the German army during his military service. Then he went...

Robert Gibbs says on "Fox News Sunday" that Obama has been transparent, since he took a question one time (August 19, 2012).

Recently, and to much notoriety, President Obama said this: "If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen." Really! Who? I always thought it was me putting in the 80 hour weeks, paying everybody else before myself, interfacing with bankers and suppliers to provide the things the team needed to get the job done.

I was just listening to the GREAT one Mark Levin. He seemed to be in rare form. Does he sometimes have cocktail hour during Friday shows? He was brilliant as always but he seemed to be much more jovial than other weekdays.
