I live in an affluent suburb that used to vote 3 to 1 Republican, but now is more like 50-50 as the younger, affluent whites trend towards socialism. A reader sent me a link to a pretty great podcast by Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying. At some point in it, they bring up a new movement by BIPOC (pronounced “bye-pock”) theater makers, challenging white people in theater. They have written an open letter, called We See You, White American Theater. Here it is:

Netflix is pledging $100 million to support black-owned banks, the company announced Tuesday. The streaming video giant announced that it would shift 2 percent of its cash holdings to African American-owned US financial institutions in order to “directly support Black communities in the US.”

The WNBA needs to force Kelly Loeffler out. Loeffler is the co-owner of the Atlanta Dream. She’s also a U.S. Senator from Georgia, appointed to her seat last December. What Loeffler has said publicly is at least as bad, if not worse, than what Donald Sterling said in a recorded conversation with his mistress — and Sterling was forced to sell the Los Angeles Clippers.

When New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy tweeted a picture of him observing a moment of silence in honor of George Floyd earlier this month, people were quick to point out that he was doing it from behind a desk that was engraved with the name of Woodrow Wilson. Some found the image ironic because Murphy was remembering the unjust death of a Black man while sitting at a desk that once belonged to Wilson, a former New Jersey governor and US president who defended segregation and slavery.

The fault lines are open and fractions are rising in the United States. Inequalities, which have always been there, are now fully exposed because of COVID-19, including its effect on marginalized communities. The death of George Floyd shined the spotlight even brighter on the racial inequality and segregation embedded in this country's education system.

In the last several days it has come out that "30 Rock" creator and star Tina Fey has decided that four episodes of the show "30 Rock", will be pulled from viewing because there were incidents of Blackface in them. I find this all absurd as the very concept of comedy has been turned on it's ear by Political Correctness. The concept of Satire and Sarcasm just no longer has a place in the venue of comedy. In it, he condemns himself as racist, all white people as racist, and the Catholic Church as racist. He also says his organization doesn’t have enough people of color on the board. Funnily enough, he doesn’t offer to resign to make room for a BIPOC:

Paris (AFP) -- French cosmetics giant L'Oreal announced Saturday it was removing words like "whitening" from its products, against the backdrop of global anti-racism protests. "The L'Oreal Group has decided to remove the words white/whitening, fair/fairness, light/lightening from all its skin evening products," the company said in a statement. Several companies -- including L'Oreal -- have been criticised recently for skin-lightening products after the global rise of the Black Lives Matter movement following the police killing in the US of African-American George Floyd last month.
